Glad to see this video and the Trailhawk in action... Took mine on the primitive roads in Big Bend, climbed several boulders and large gaps/ravines that left other vehicles stuck (F150s, etc). Looking back I would like a higher lift just to clear some more difficult terrain. But hey, I made it!

For what it is, i'd say the 2019 Trailhawk is very off-road worthy. No it won't outwheel everything ever, but it will follow the average rig down the average trail. Only thing that has stopped me so far is deep ruts since i can't exactly fit the larger tires that other rigs can. Love my Trailhawk and what it can do. I also enjoy being the odd one and blowing peoples minds when i can follow them through obstacles they never thought i could!

Lets be clear, this is more serious offroading than 95% of people will ever take their new Trailhawk on. I see decked our wranglers with 35's that look pristine driving around town all day without a trace of mud. $40,000 Jeeps are not taken offroad, they are driven to the grocery stores. The only time these Jeeps will see any offroading is when some teenager buys them 15 years from now as a first car for 2 grand and thrshes it with his high school buddies
@PAINTnPONG
@PAINTnPONG 6 лет назад
weejitwill not at all true. There are some like that sure, but there are plenty of people like me that dont have a wrangler just for a you vehicle and only use it offroad. Just because I dont have 25k in mods done and leave it caked in mud I get bad looks from snob owners, but sorry I enjoy it as it sits, I do drive it beyond trails and off-road and I clean up my vehicle when I can.

True, most people aren't trying to play like this. However, I see myself doing a bit of weekend off-roading if I do decide on a Trailhawk just because.

I would also be in the 5 percent that bought my2017 trailhawk specifically to go off road. More specifically the day after I bought it, it was like Christmas and I was 8 years old again. And the begining of last years hunting season. I couldn't get it off road soon enough! It's way more comfortable off road after a couple scratches

Good info. I take my 2016 Lattitude Altitude on trails all the time. It works great in the Snow too when it gets snowey here on Lake Arrowhead CA I'll be upgrading to the 2019 TrailHawk in a couple weeks and look forward to having fun with that locking diff. I love the cherokee, I just wish they gave it the ability to have better ground clearance and wider wheels.

I take 18 on about 80 % of the same terrain just to casually explore. Put on a set of KO2s for the winter up here in Canada and it's very capable for a weekend warrior vehicle and an excellent daily driver. Wouldnt reccomend for a family of 4 but if your like me and just have a dog who takes up the backseat its perfect.

Cool video and cool car. The Trailhawk trim is actually very useful in city - I live in NYC and here it's pretty "normal" to push the cars in front and back of your car when parking between them, so unpainted front/rear bumper is extremely useful, same goes for better approach angles and high ground clearance because some shopping areas have very steep entries to their driveway which can cause you to scrap the bumper on cars with low ground clearance and sometimes it's very convenient to drive over the curb when such shopping parking lots have a very narrow entrances/exits ;-) Only bad thing about this trim is red towing hooks, they stand out too much.

@axia24
@axia24 6 лет назад
Sadly it'd kick a stock XJ's arse. Now if the XJ had lockers in the rear, and swaybar disconnect, then it's a different story. But with the XJ, since it doesn't have lockers or traction control, it's 1 front wheel and 1 rear wheel that drive you. I love the XJ - and had one for two decades - but know its limitations.

Not too bad for a FWD platform. What you see is what you get. This video shows its maximum capability. Not anything for serious off roading, but this will be plenty good for the target market.
@joserodriguez4608
@joserodriguez4608 6 лет назад
This is FAR from the max capability. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ctqi_m8Onec.html I completed the entire trail
@Ryno-fp7pm
@Ryno-fp7pm 6 лет назад
Jose Rodriguez I watched the video as well as several others featuring the Cherokee. I know first hand that videos/pics never do justice to the terrain and it does ok. Like I stated before, this would suit the vast majority of people for their off road needs. However, for those who enjoy technical trails (like myself), the platform is very limited. I consider it a 3rd tier 4WD. It can do a lot of what a solid rear axle/IFS truck can do, but not nearly what can be done in a vehicle with solid front and rear axles.
@stevenvarner9806
@stevenvarner9806 6 лет назад
But Ryno5150, this vehicle is not intended to compete with a Rubicon. This is in the same class as the Toyota Rav4 and the Honda CRV. If someone wants to do serious off-road black diamond trails as a sport, then you're going to buy a Wrangler, and there's not much left in the market to compete with it. Almost all the truck frame SUVs are gone (Xterra, Montero, Rodeo, etc.). Only the 4Runner and the posh Mercedes $150k G-class remain. If someone needs to go camping in the desert, ride to that remote fishing spot, or have a fun drive on a truck trail, then this vehicle is going to do better than a Rav4 or a CRV.

They actually merged with Chrysler to become Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. The head designer for all of FCA is actually a Chrysler guy. The main reason we are seeing great products today from FCA is because the guy in charge CEO Sergio Marchionne is a car guy and true to the company, which allows for not as many constraints they had in the past with Diamler and then Cerbeus.

@psychologicaltirefire8190
@psychologicaltirefire8190 3 года назад
Not really, Grand Cherokee TH only has a limited slip diff, 44:1 crawl ratio vs a 56:1(wrangler rubicon has about an 84:1) even at it's max air height it's angles don't change much from a Cherokee TH but it gets 10.8" of clearance. Not to mention it's about 800lbs heavier.

I owned a Cherokee Trailhawk for 2.5 Years. It was the worst machine I have ever owned and I am glad to be rid of it. With that said the most significant problems I had with the transmission, headlights (which were woefully inadequate for nighttime driving) and a lack of rear cargo space. I had many long interviews and surveys that I filled out for jeep due to the numerous complaints I filed and repeated dealership visits for the transmission problems. I am very happy that jeep listened to its customer base but I cannot recommend this vehicle to anyone. Great overview as always but wow you are in Jeep’s Koolaid bowl.

Ride sw Colorado and Moab all the time. Trailhawk is amazing, plenty of video out there. Breakovers excellent under carriage shielding more and more. The drive modes excellent. @crewjock02
@crewjock02 6 лет назад
kong3 I had a 2014 Trailhawk, the transmission died at 12K miles due to a melted master wiring harnesses. After 12 days in a Jeep dealership I drove it 2 Miles and the TCU control unit blew out. That took another 7 days to fix. At 26k miles the transmission failed and went into limp home mode. It required 14 days of heart surgery to have a new transmission replaced plus an oil pressure sensor and they also fixed the leaking sunroof. I also had 4 TCU firmware reflash(s). Even at the end, the transmission was still jerking, lurching and hesitating downshifts. Even in manual mode it would not obey a shift command. This is what we refer to as a design validation failure. This is backed up my consumer reports dismal reviews Of the Cherokees reliability and its resale value per KBB is equally poor. Additionally the IIHS gives the Cherokee a death trap rating of “Marginal”. While I respect consumers opinions but the data clearly shows this is a trouble model and customers should be wary.

Evan K You’ve said nothing of worth to add to the conversation. If you would like to impart some knowledge feel free to. Or we can just “lol” at your childish responses. I just finished a 3000m trip with my JKU which involved heading up Mt Baker, going down to Reno and running the Rubicon as well as other trails, and hitting up some tracks in CO on the way back. I bought a Jeep so I could do that comfortably, however if I stayed off the more extreme trails I could have done it with this Cherokee, got better mpg, and been more comfortable on the trips in between. Every vehicle has a purpose. Technology has advanced, there’s no need for solid axle suvs when they have the Wrangler to fill that roll.
@evank3217
@evank3217 6 лет назад
Secret ! Oh but you calling anyone who knows the XJ is a better off-road rig an idiot...this brings so much to the table!? Give me a break, you’re just butt-hurt 😭 the majority of all real off-road enthusiasts are in agreement that the new Cherokees blow and because you bought one of these lame overpriced pieces of crap. Jeep has clearly lost touch with a lot of their fans, Who wants an “off-road” car? Not me anyways, not a lot of people. This is clearly a glorified grocery getter. This video is a prime example of why the new Cherokees suck off-road. The ground clearance and articulation is absolutely horrible! That alone speaks volume! And we are not talking about wranglers here we were talking about Cherokees, and solid axels are a far better choice for any bush/off-road vehicle for multiple reasons...number one reason being they are easy to lift! just admit it, these newer models pale in comparison to the early models.

Alexander Sanford - I envy Jeep's Trailhawk crossovers capabilities despite driving a Subaru, however, I'm completely content and having a subcompact crossover (Subaru XV Crosstrek) that is second best in class for off-road capability. Unfortunately, I just don't have the confidence in Fiat Chrysler Automotive's product reliability. It also doesn't help that Jeep's lineup has particularly subpar safety ratings, as well as many of their vehicles having bad rollover ratings (high chance of rollover).

AWDfreak I had a Jeep Wrangler as my first car, and it was just a difficult vehicle to live with for daily driving, especially in the Winter; it really wasn't as good as people say in the snow and ice. Ever since I got into an Outback, I've pretty much never looked back. Compared to the Jeep, this thing handles like a sports car and rides like a Buick! To boot, it's got room for stuff and people at the same time.

this Jeep has almost no articulation. A solid axle with no sway bar will have articulation.
@rileygallagher4956
@rileygallagher4956 6 лет назад
Phillip Craggs it doesn’t need much articulation. The chassis has great torsional rigidity and the 4x4 system is plenty capable on figuring out how to keep moving without all 4 tires on the ground.
@billredding2000
@billredding2000 5 лет назад
...but that's one of the things a Trailhawk rated vehicle is supposed to have Articulation...but didn't see any here. To me, "articulation" means all 4 wheels on the ground, not one or two in the air (spinning or not doesn't matter -- being in the air = zero traction for that particular wheel). I mean really, seeing those Wrangler Rubicons rock-crawling with crazy axle angles BUT all 4 wheels are touching something , THAT's "articulation" as we'd normally understand the concept. So I'd have to agree with Phillip: This Jeep has almost no "articulation." If it does, perhaps the "chief engineer" riding along would have clarified that for us. Regardless, if I wanted the most off-road capable SUV (and I AM considering one) then it'd be the Cherokee Trailhawk. But I'd also like to drive this course in a short wheelbase (144") Mercedes Sprinter 4x4 to see how IT does...mainly because I'm looking at the Winnebago Revel 4x4 Class B also. ;-) -- BR

Yeahhh... no. I understand all the awesome off road tech features that the GC has, and for its class it is amazing. That being said, a stock Wrangler Sport will spank it off road.

There are basic stuff for true off-road vehicles that this thing is missing, a frame and solid axels....wrangler sport has those two thing plus ground clerance better departure angles and so on....
@KMT15
@KMT15 6 лет назад
Dwealdric I beg to differ. My buddies wrangler got stuck several times and my wife’s trailhawk grand Cherokee did not. QD 2 and Quadra Lift make it extremely capable. The command trac system in the normal Wrangler will not put 100% power to 1 wheel if needed. Regardless, this ugly ass Cherokee is certainly nowhere close to capable compared to a GC.

I have a fully loaded 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk V6 and although I love the vehicle and its capabilities Jeeps customer service and reliability has to be the worst in the world and I urge anyone that is considering buying one to reconsider. working with Jeep is a nightmare. My Jeep is less than 2 years old with 16000 miles and their certified mechanics did horrible work and all the parts are breaking that they replaced on a hunch searching for a defect (the defect was a bad wheel bearing but they kept replacing other parts trying to find the problem) but they replace my brakes which seized up right after then they replace my left rear axle which came apart while I was driving and Jeep is saying that they are not liable because it is not a manufacturer's defect rather than workmanship defect so they want me to pay out of my own pocket to fix their certified Mechanics Work and tell me it is not covered under warranty at all. if any attorneys or other people that are screwed over by Jeep are reading this please contact me and I would be interested in starting a class action lawsuit

@andrewwilson8317
@andrewwilson8317 6 лет назад
robert b yes it has! I have had to clean out the sockets for owners with a similar setup,hence my noticing it. Lint comes from clothing and dust comes from just general use. It gets compacted into the sockets and causes intermittent operation. It ones not take much for USB connectors to go bad- they were not designed for this type of use. The solution is very low tech,a bit of tape over the socket when not in use! If you don't believe me about the lint and dust then look down beside the seat rails to see how much is there after a couple of years! Why not just fit a cover over it? An exposed electronics connection in a dusty environment makes no sense !

I would like to test drive the 2019. I always drive everything that comes out to compare. I know the sales for Chrysler and Jeep have been going down. We are stealing more and more customers from the Jeep Grand Cherokee and putting them in 4Runners. I like seeing the difference each year in quality and price. So far we are doing great as keep seeing people leave the Grand Cherokee and move to a 4Runner.

I had an XJ and a ZJ. My XJ got broken into and "stolen" because somebody was smart enough to know there was no alarm or theft mode on that thing. They smashed a window and tore up the steering column to where they could manipulate the starter switch with their finger. Luckily for me, the battery was dead so they had to abandon their ambitions. Unfortunately, the damage was more than the jeep was worth so I sold it to a mechanic buddy of mine. Still have the ZJ though.
