All the big half-ton truck manufactures have given their models a recent refresh or a full redesign. Toyota though has soldiered on with its Tundra which was last redesigned in 2014. Let’s take a look and see if the 2019 model is still competitive. Prices range from $31,420 for the base SR 4x2 trim up to $50,430 for the Platinum 5.7L 4x4 CrewMax trim.
The 2019 Toyota Tundra TRD Sport model has multiple stylish and functional upgrades. Upfront the grille has been painted to match the body color, the hood scoop is specific to the TRD model, and the headlights are LED units. Underneath the 4x4 gear consists of Bilstein tuned Dampeners and TRD sway bars.
Under the hood is a 5.7-liter iForce V-8 engine makes 391 horsepower and 401 lb-ft. of torque. Fuel economy checks in at 14 MPG combined which is significantly worse than the competition. These poor figures are due in part to an outdated 6-speed automatic transmission when the competition has 10-speed transmissions.

My company used to have a Chevy Fleet. The trucks were always in the shop so we switched to Ford. Things got no better. Now we have Tundras. Fuel prices stayed the same. Repair costs are way down. I bought a 2018 Limited CM for myself. I have driven them all. Tundras are the best by far. I’d you need a push button or a fancy interior, just make sure you pick shoes that match your dress.

I may be alone here, but I think the Tundra, although they haven't updated it lately, has the nicest looking front end. It seems like all of the updated 2019 trucks went for the bubbly look, while the Tundra still has a somewhat aggressive look to it.

You cannot use a design from 2007 and jack your prices up to $60k with the competition yelling reliability. This is a great work truck for running pool supplies or furniture but not heavy duty work.
@ricmagik
@ricmagik 5 лет назад
Tundras don't sell near $60k. Chevy still uses the 5.3 from 1999, Ram still uses the 5.7 from 2002, and ford just uses all sorts of designs. What is more important in a vehicle? The engine/drivetrain or electronics and looks? Nothing wrong at all for yelling reliability.
@shotokanslammer1
@shotokanslammer1 5 лет назад
ricmagik the TRDpro tundras go for $60k after fees and taxes here in California. Heck, online there are plenty of SR5s going for over $60k nationwide. 2018s are way overpriced.

All the reasons I switched to the 2018 Tundra from my 6.2 Silverado High Country. The Silverado was in the shop 6 times before 27k miles, the radiator blew at 27k and I traded it in as soon as it returned from repair. Chevy has made many sacrifices for fuel economy and turned their trucks into soccer mom suvs with truck beds. The Tundra is a proven platform, if I ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I also average within 1mpg of the ‘15 6.2 Silverado I had on my daily commute. There is also no comparison when I tow my tractor or camper vs the Silverado, much more stable and the 4.30 gears make a noticeable difference. The larger brakes also feel more confident I can actually stop. The Silverado always made my ass pucker when towing heavy loads.

2018, the Tundra was the ONLY full sized pickup that was a "recommended buy" according to Consumer Reports. Haven't checked 2019, but considering the important parts have not changed, you can't go wrong with a Toyota when it comes to reliability and resale value.
@max-grey

So I see a lot of people complaining about the tundra lacking tech., bad fuel economy & dated interior. The question, is the Tundra trying to be a luxury truck? Also, Toyota was just honest with the mpg numbers, other "modern" trucks consume almost same amount of fuel. On the TFL towing test, the tundra did consume just about same as the competition. Tundra doesn't have to be like the competition, it has to be a tundra. Others are only good on paper, modern tech is overly hyped.

I understand your point, The Tundra is a truck that fits the working man and common driver needs. Dependable, Power, limited electronics. Electronics in a work truck can be the difference between 20 years of use and 5 years of use. The simplicity of the truck which most manufacturers miss out on this point. If you drive a truck to work in your office, yes get a Ford or RAM. All the electronic and luxury an office worker needs.

Toyotas are literally indestructible, I remember an episode of Top Gear where they got a Toyota Hilux, went through many tests such as on top of a building before collapsing or in part of the ocean for a while. Using only simple tools, they go back to life.

What I like about this truck are some of the "negatives" that you listed. A 5.7 v8 with a 6 speed Auto and I believe 4.33 gears is probably the best setup you can get for gas towing, but it will guzzle the gas. To me the interior on the ram or the Ford seems busy, too busy. Too much tech is a bad thing. That's why this truck will be my next truck, that, and because you never ever see a Toyota broken down on the side of the road. One of the last manufacturers that cares about reliability

Reliable to the end. Drove all the competition. Sales guy at GMC was kind of embarrassed, when test driving 60g truck, I couldn’t adjust drivers seat, because my watch was too big! Also phone charging pad on middle console wouldn’t hold my iPhone 8, it was to big. I said small things like this makes me wonder when they will catch up to their competitors in ergonomics and fit. Purchased truck above w leather and 4x4 w, TRD Sport package, 5.7L. Really about the only thing I didn’t get was a sunroof. Had them for years on other vehicles, and never really opened them. My 3rd Tundra, maybe plain to some, but fit and feel, ride and comfort, are second to none. And I stayed under 50g’s!

I bought a 2016 Tundra TRD for the reliable power train. No worries about breaking down. Its Engine sounds great! Just before that I check the Eco boost. It was nice but its small Engine 2.7 threw me off. It looked like a ford Focus Engine in a full size truck. Just weird.

Outdated is good if the truck will last 20 plus years. Loyal Toyota Tacoma user right here. I vouch my truck lasted over 15 years with no major repairs. Just consistent with the required maintenance

Toyota doesn’t make anything flashy just to sell. Build things simple for durability, reliability and great resale end result for the owner. I could care less about gas mileage, mine always is ready to travel. At 3:00 in the morning pulling my duck boat and 10 degrees with 35 mph wind, I don’t want a ridiculous breakdown, that’s why I have a z Toyota Tundra CrewMax. They just keep on running, forever.

ya thats it....place all the truck functions and buttons into one screen so that once it goes out in the future your truck is a brick.... wave of the future...BRICKS!!!!

His thought were just like mine when I sat in my brand new 1997 Toyota T100. I had to remind myself that I had bought it for its dependability. My one kid and wife took that bad boy across the country for over 8 years until In a moment of weakness I sold it. Up until that point, the alternator was replaced and of course the battery. I have regretted selling it ever since. Were it not for my foolishness, I would still be driving that truck.

William Stewart I had a 2006 GMC 2500hd with the 6.7 Turbo. Although it was reliable. Rust was just tragic on it. Absolute trashed after 8 years and 180,000 miles. Good truck, but the body gave me headaches. Got a 2002 Sequoia running smooth and rust free with 412,000 on the odometer. Traded that GM for a 2014 tundra.
@WilliamStewart1
@WilliamStewart1 5 лет назад
@@michaelmurphy4574 Rust obviously doesn't avoid the Toyotas either, look at the big Tacoma/Tundra frame rotting problem.

I don't have to have the biggest nav screen, or the smoothest leather or most supple wood trim or whatever. Just give me a reliable truck with a V8, and Tundra comes with radar cruise and safety package standard. Try to find a domestic truck with that stuff under 60k!

Yes if it’s not broken don’t fix it , that’s Toyota they are very plain but it’s made to do the job , if I want all the bells and whistles GMC the go to truck , but reliability is Toyota I think , I know the earlier Tundra had rust issues on the frame ours was quite bad , I’m in the market now for a newer Tundra hoping the one I spend my hard earned dollars will not let me down , oh by the way in this video you never mentioned the Lord , thank the Lord that one truck manufacturer has brains and is doing something right , thank you Lord there I said it for you all the best my friend thanks for the review of the 2019 Toyota .
