I did this mod today, took me about 40 minutes. They must have mad a modification to the pipe that connects to the stock pipe, mind slipped right in, no issues. That $12 dollar tool for the rubber hangers was well worth it. I did put the chrome tip on, it makes the tone a little deeper. Great upgrade for the price! I also had to replace the carrier bearing, not difficult but not as fast and easy as the exhaust. Tomorrow I'm going to try to get the CV axle boots replaced.
I installed this kit because of this video. I'm happy I did. I love the sound. Quick tip I lubricated the first pipe and took a 2x4 with a 5 pound sledge and gave it hell. Seemed to do the trick. Install was easy after that. Thanks for the video I have literally watched all of the tundra videos.
Nice, I hope you like the sound as much as I do. The video really doesn't do it justice. Good tip for that first pipe. Definitely gave me some trouble getting that first one in. Thanks for watching! - Sal
So nice! My dad has a 2002 tundra in the same color also a TRD that i am buying off him since he just got a newer 2019 tundra. Ive always loved this truck and cant wait to get working on it. Its amazing how reliable its been so far, we used to do so many trips in it and its been across tye country a few times now lol, it does need a bit of work but it should all be fairly easy to do ourselves. The best part is hes giving me a great price since i told him he can still use it whenever he wants 😆 Amazing truck though 👍
Mine came a day early, and me and my dad installed it in about an hour, it was really easy And it put the biggest smile across my face, it sounds so good, it sounds awesome when accelerating
I commented before and I have one of those exhaust cutouts and man, the drone is massive lol. The tip on the cutout is pointing directly to the ground. It's fun to open it up and stomp on the gas, it really roars. But for daily driving I usually have it closed. I enjoy the Tundra videos I have an 05. Keep up the good work!
Oh yeah, I remember you mentioning the cutout! I still don't really have plans to do it, but I'm sure it's super fun when you want to get rowdy haha thanks for watching! - Sal
I’m thinking of doing a cut out on my dak R/T. keeping the muffler and resonator so she puts like a kitten and roars like a lion. Which one did you get? Thx
@@gknettel22 Ah nice. It's kind of unbranded but find out what your exhaust diameter is. Then get it welded before the mufflers of course. Mine had 2 remotes with it. You'll have to wire the receiver and motor to your battery. My receive box died like last week so I'll end up hardwiring it with a button into my cab.
Hey sal it’s Dave again, already made an appointment to get my front wheel bearing replaced ( watching your videos really helps to see if you can “ do it yourself or go to a shop lol) the wheel bearing is shop material for me lol, now after watching this video I am definitely getting a new exhaust, to me your new exhaust sounds perfect. Keep up the videos buddy..( from one tundra lover to another)
Haha glad I can help provide some context on what the installs entail. Would definitely recommend this exhaust, I think it sounds great. The only thing I kinda forgot to mention in the video is that it's aluminized steel, not stainless so it'll have less corrosion resistance and that's how they're able to offer it at a lower price point. We'll see how it holds up over time! Thanks for watching Dave! - Sal
I had a 14 wrx and brought a invidia catback and the package came like that, holes and rips lol, I posted on the Reddit and they said a lot of their packages came like that, I think it’s a common thing with exhaust packages, anyways I plan on doing this to my 03 tundra, keep the content coming man love it !
I’m installing mine today, if I remember I’ll edit this comment with how it went! Edit: Alright, let me start off with that I am fairly new to car modification so it may be easier for someone else. This install took me 2 days, day 1 was removing the old exhaust, my first issue was the bolt on the clamp that holds the muffler pipe to the resonator was very rusty and stripped, so I had to cut it off with an ankle grinder, thankfully before installing I thought this might happen so I bought a new one of Amazon before hand. I had to stop on day one because I could not get the new pipe on to the old pipe all the way no matter what I tried, I even tried the ice and the heat but to no avail. So on day 2, I put my truck on an actual lift and was able to hammer the pipe on with a rubber mallet. Then I was able to install the new parts without too much issue. (I work at an auto shop so I only had access to a lift on my lunch break) I’ve driven around for a little bit with the new exhaust and have been very happy with it. No droning at idle, and it sounds great on startup and when you give it gas. I bought mine of realtruck for about $400. Overall it’s a good choice for a first gen tundra, I think my friends will be jealous… 😂
@@JDMDrivewayafter taking the exhaust clamp off, the 2 pipes seem to have rusted together, I’m trying some more PB blaster now. Any ideas if that doesn’t work?
Your Tundra looks and sounds amazing! The exhaust is money on that rig. The sound of the valves on the deceleration is great. These trucks are incredible in terms of reliability, while giving an irreplaceable feel. Mines a little older, put together over in Indiana and still kicking proudly. Putting new injectors in at the moment. Any debates on 4 hole and 12 hole?
Thanks Spencer! I'm enjoying the exhaust so far and the truck has been great to me too. I've done a bit of research on injectors because I was considering upgrading to the 12 hole but I didn't really see enough convincing evidence that they were better than the 4 hole. I'm sure you can't go wrong either way! Thanks for watching - Sal
@@JDMDriveway Good to hear about the exhaust! Picked up the 12 hole injectors and am putting them in tomorrow, hoping that it makes the truck smoother than new. Got a pretty good difference when changing to iridium plugs and NGK coils. I’ll keep you posted on the injectors.
Yeah man, I hope you see a difference with the injectors, I read some things that it may help fuel economy which would be nice haha definitely let me know, I'd love to hear!
Badass man!! My truck is identical to yours from paint to black wheels and I’m gonna move forward with this exhaust system!! Unlike you, I run my truck like it’s on the Baja 500, haha!
I feel like you're truck would look good with some raptor lights in the grill, but it already looks amazing. I have a 2000 limited but I needs lots of work!!
Hola soy colombiano , y seguidor tuyo , estoy tratando de encontrar una cómo la tuya , para hacer todo lo q tú enseñas pero lo q más me ha gustado es ese sonido q a todos nos encanta
Thanks Steve! This exhaust doesn't affect performance at all, but its probably hurting my MPGs a little because I love to hear the exhaust! haha thanks for watching! - Sal
Dang dude, I completely didn't think to look. Sorry about that, but I wanna say that it's a perforated design because of the muffler shape. Thanks for watching though! - Sal
@@JDMDriveway no worries at all thanks for the info. Also, I wanted to ask if you had taken the truck up to highway speeds and get your thoughts- I didn’t know if you had based on the rollers and footage driving around town in your video. Thanks very much.
Yeah man, I've had it on highways and I actually towed a few hours with it too. I'd say there's a hint of drone at like ~2800 RPM (65ish mph I think?), but in my opinion it isn't deafening and music can easily drown it out. I think it's worth noting that I'd say I have grown to accept a higher tolerance for noise in the cabin after upgrading to my noisy A/T tires. Regardless, I still think it's a good upgrade that's a bit louder than stock, but not obnoxious around town or on the highway.
Exactly, it's just the right volume and the phone mic really doesn't do the tone of the exhaust justice. It sounds awesome in real life, especially with the windows down. The wheel and tire setup are Vision Manx 16x8 +0 and tires are 265/75r16. This video goes into more detail on it. Thanks for watching! - Sal ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gD2DY-Zu448.html
Ah gotcha. Yeah I've been really liking my truck, but assuming you're looking at similar year Silverados, they're both older, simpler trucks so in my opinion you can't really go wrong. Best of luck with the search!
I haven't bought a resonator for my truck yet, but I would consider getting it from rockauto. They usually have good prices and options for OEM replacements. Thanks for watching
I just installed the same exhaust on my 2003 Tundra 4wd access cab. The new muffler seems kind of close (~2 inches) to the rear shock though. Did you run into this during your install?
I just checked under my truck and it does look a little close to me (about 2" away), I haven't run into any issues with it though. Thanks for watching, and I hope you enjoy the exhaust as much as I do!
Hmm I did some quick research and it looks like you'd probably have to replace the whole section that connects up to the cats unless you want to cut and weld. I don't know specific resonators to buy, but I would say to lean towards stainless steel or at least alumnized steel so that it has a longer lifespan. I'm still absolutely loving the exhaust though! Hope this helps, and thanks for watching. - Sal
Thanks for the video. I installed the exact same exhaust for my 1st gen tundra. The last pipe is loose tho, how I’ve tightened the clamp but that back piece is still loose, is the hanger what’s supposed to keep it from swiveling down?
Huh, that's weird, but yeah that hanger on the back section should keep it from rotating down. The two pipes on my kit fit tightly and I haven't had any issues with it being loose or sagging. Hope you can get it figured out, and thanks for watching!
@@JDMDriveway I think I’m going to order better clamps. I’m going to try using band clamps to see if they work better. Thanks for the reply. I appreciate all your videos!
I'm not sure about smog, my truck is registered in FL and there's no rules haha literally no inspections or anything. The whole exhaust sits behind the cats so I don't see why it wouldn't? But I really can't say for sure, definitely love this exhaust tho! - Sal
@@Rooki3_ turns out it was easy put on a flow master 40 series and it passed just fine planning on doing true duals with 3 inch piping from the catalytic
They're Goodyear Wrangler Authoritys, I made another video talking about them in more detail. Thanks for watching - Sal ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gD2DY-Zu448.html
I'm about to need some for my Taco, want to get a bit more aggressive profile AT type. My Tundra has Ironman AT/ MTs on it that look pretty good, but a bit noisy. I'll check into those Goodyears. Thanks for sharing!
Hmm sorry I didn't include it in the video. I'm pretty sure it was a 12mm but it could have been a 14. It's pouring outside today, but I'll check tomorrow and let you know for sure - Sal
Ok, so just played around with it a bit and the factory clamp uses a 12mm. Then the new clamps from mbrp use a 15mm but the 5/8 was close and you could probably make that work. Hope this helps! - Sal
Dang, sorry to hear that. I had a very noticeable difference in tone and volume. I wonder if your stock system had a leak or something so it was louder than it should have been? I've also found that the mbrp muffler has "broken in" a bit and gotten a little louder too after driving for a few days. - Sal
It's entirely post-cat and not insanely loud so it should be legal. I don't know the specifics of some other states like Cali though. Thanks for watching
Seriously dude, put some shoes on when working in a shop. I hope you didn't drop a muffler or wrench on your flip flops. The truck sounds good though, nice job.
Yeah, you're right. I guess I'm a bit naïve to think that I won't hurt myself working on the cars without shoes on. Thanks for watching though, and I appreciate the heads up - Sal
