First impressions of KERALA 2024 SURPRISED US!| First time in INDIA VLOG| Westerners in Kochi Kerela
We have made it to Kerala finally! Both of us travelled 30+ hours to get here but we made it. In this video, you will get to meet Keenan - so exciting! This is his first time traveling to India and my first time in the South of India and we are so excited to share our first impressions. Obviously we are coming in very cold so these impressions might just be that, but we are excited to experience Kerala and Kochi and continue to share our perspectives based on where we are from (USA and UK).
In this 2024 vlog - you will get a sense of our funny dynamic. Keenan is truly a little boy in a man's body and I am sassy, sarcastic, and imbecilic most of the time. We are two westerners at heart so our perspectives on Indian and Maliyali culture is hopefully interesting.
Within this video, we will be exploring the streets of Kochi (Cochin), a major city in Kerala with the BIGGEST PORT IN INDIA. First we will walk around Fort Kochi and then have some food on Princess Street and then finally dive into the culture, learning about the fishing net style they use. They are Chinese fishing nets and insanely cool and interesting. From there we will work on our Malayalum and dive head first in the Kerala culture.
Within our first day, we already understand why Kerala is called "God's Own Country" ... it's definitely the Malayali people. They are so willing to help, calm in nature, and kind people. We feel right at home here and extremely safe.
We hope this video was fun and interesting for you to get a first glimpse into our first day in Kochi and our relationship.
See you next time!
Lot's of Love,
Mac & Keen

Its a common myth that Malayalam is a mixture of Tamil and Sanskrit. Malayalam is more of a sister language of 'modern Tamil'. In ancient tamizhakam (which consist current Tamil Nadu and Kerala states and other regions), many dialects of the same language were spoken. This was a precursor of current Tamil language. From these dialects, both tamil and malayalam were originated. Tamil is the accumulation of many dialects spoken east to Western ghats (the mountain range parallel to arabian see, which also separare Kerala and Tamil nadu) and malayalam west to western ghats. Malayalam was influenced by sanskrit like other Dravidian languages. Also grammar and script of malayalam got heavily influenced by sanskrit unlike modern Tamil. Even if we remove all the loan words from sanskrit malayalam also has a great vocabulary to convey almost everything.

LOL. Tamil chauvinist spotted. 😂😂 Tamil itself has a script that is derived from Sanskrit. Its just the Sanskrit Brahmi script written in palm leaves which made it circular due to practical reasons. Its called Tamil Brahmi script. Tamil grammar itself is from Sanskrit. It uses the ancient Sanskrit Indra Vyakarna. This is mentioned in the oldest Tamil book, Tolkappiam. Malayalam OTOH is 80% - 86% Sanskrit. Its script and grammar is completely from Sanskrit. Tamil is the odd man out with only 30% vocabulary from Sanskrit. Telegu and Kannada too has 70%-75% vocabulary from Sanskrit. In fact ancient Tamil and Kerala kingdoms were almost constantly at war. The Cholas and Chera's were constantly at War for almost 2000 years. The Older Tamil kingdom of Pandya prided itself and named itself after Pandava's of the Mahabharata. In fact it was a Pandya princess who settled the Tamil city of "Madurai" named and created after the North Indian holy city of "Mathura". The Chera's OTOH claimed lineage from Mushika dynasty who in turn claim lineage from the Yadavas.

@@odomangulati7079 malayalam is 80% sanskrit? Dude, how much delusional are you? I am malayali and I have no idea what they are talking when I hear when some people speaking Sanskrit in videos. I have never seen anyone who is fluent is Sanskrit who's mother tongue isn't malayalam says they can understand malayalam. if I am wrong, just show me some sanskrit speakers who can understand malayalam.

@@odomangulati7079 on the other hand tamil and malayalam are mutually intelligible to some extent. Most malayalees can easily understand tamil.

6:09 No don't do it tuktuks have a very small 200 cc engine which can't take you very far and it can't climb up slopes. Half your time be eaten by breakdowns and repairs. Better buy a cheap secondhand car or a Royal Enfield

Don't do it. Rickshaws and bikes are banned on the really nice highways, freeways, and expressways in India.

When you're in Kochi, do not mix an experience with Kuluki Sharbat Drink on the Ernakulam side, it is an experience in itself 🙂
