Great reaction! Would love to see you react to another (recent) live performance: the Vevo Kiss From a Rose cover. It's fantastic and you get to see Kevin multitasking!
Plus all of the different fabrics they're slapping against in a concert, each of which would have to be micced differently. In this case, Kirstie is actually slapping against bare skin, as opposed to all of the others slapping against fabric. So, yeah, pretty sure it's a slap/clap track. But the voices and movements are all live, and that's the important part for me.
I agree... unless there was an extremely sensitive boom mic or Kevin was actually doing all the percussion himself then there's no way those thigh claps and hand taps carried that rhythm. Not that I'm complaining, it's absolutely phenomenal not matter how it was done. :)
Your “behind the scenes” comment makes me think you will be watching Recording Evergreen. I really hope so because I always learn so much when musicians comment on their process. Fingers crossed! Thanks for keeping Pentatonix on the schedule, I am really enjoying your reactions. Peace …
For high quality live performances, check out any of the live stream performances. They’ve done them for the last few Christmas tours, For non-Christmas, check out the Hollywood Bowl concert in 2022
👋😃👉The Trio (Scott, Kirstie and Mitch) came up with the choreo back in 2013/14 not sure exactly. But there is an official video from back then for this song when Avi was still in the group. There is a video tutorial to click on at the end of the official video. FUN FACT: A LOT of school A capella groups in the US and around the world have covered this song in their groups. ACTUALLY, A lot of choir and A capella group use PENTATONIX as inspiration. I read LOTS of comments from students and choir teachers using PENTATONIX as examples in their class. MOST AMAZING I see a LOT of singing groups in foreign countries covering PENTATONIX and it makes me SO PROUD to be a mega fan of them!
You also need to watch their recent live performances from the VEVO studio..A Kiss From A Rose..and Mashup of Pure Imagination/Christmas Time is here..they are so friggin talented..
There is a tutorial for the clapping section on RU-vid. I have performed this song with some friends some years ago and it was very hard, not only to learn the clapping pattern, but to sing at the same time (sometimes not in sync with what you need to clap). Extremely hard!
One of my favorite live performances of theirs is the 2016 Popspring concert. It's about 15 minutes but we love watching it so don't worry that it's too long for viewers. They do 3 originals plus their MJ Evolution, which if you haven't seen that, it's a must in seeing the evolution of the group as well. This season they released quite a few new videos including 2 vevo live recordings. Their new album is maybe the best they've ever done and that's really saying something. I don't know how they keep getting better and better, but they do. In 2011 on the Sing Off the judges told them that they kept expecting them to run out of things to surprise them from their bag of tricks and yet every performance they came up with something new and exciting. Now, 12 years later they are still doing that.
Great reaction! If you want to go back to the beginning, you need to see their performances in the 2011 program, The Sing Off (complete with judges' commentary). You, literally, see them grow in this show and can learn more about Avi Kaplan, their original bass who performed with them. He has a successful solo career now, as well. Most reactors can show The Sing Off performances without having to blur for copyright infringement.
Speaking of Evolution.....😁😁 They have a whole series of videos where they take an artist's catalog & create an epic medley out of them. It's live sitting/standing in front of mics. They do 4 takes & choose the best full through. My personal favorite is the Evolution of Rihanna but they're all amazing 😊
Originally, it was included in one of their earlier Christmas albums with Avi. The video was shot live outdoors (in a forest?). The first time they performed it live in a concert was 2022 Christmas tour I believe with Matt. The 2023 Christmas tour had them seated in a circle facing out to the audience. And yes, they do use back tracks for this
I really think you need to watch live performance of AHA..concert from Star Vista Singapore..Mitch will amaze you..really interested on your professional take on his performance..THANKS
Yeah, they're going through the movements with a clap track in the background. The clap is secondary to the actual movements though. There's no way i could pull that off. Lololo
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l55vp0eVl58.htmlsi=ECMysIOJarXOVsrB This is a wonderful example if them live. Some fan footage can be great but phone mics can't handle the sound well enough to match how it sounds live.
