18+ can mean 18 years of age or older as an age restricted event. The less common way to intepret inviting people to an 18+ event would be an event with atleast 18 people invited lol.

@@mattvic4617 instanced like how sailing will be? All of the additions to the skill could be added by updating the individual skills themselves. The premise of going to different islands is kinda dumb and doesn't really tie in. Shamanism would've been so much better and actually tied in to existing skills. They've had about a year and all they've added is some shitty ship that moves over the sea.
I knew it would fail immediately. I still have no clue how it won in the polls over Shamanism, or how they didn't re-run the poll with only Shamanism and Sailing after it was so close of a result between the 2. What a waste. This looks awful

This is like when EOC came out but a few years before dungeoneering came first. People wanna act like dungeoneering is good but it’s like a leveled glorified slayer and they only like it because it was like 2009 grow up, that was the first update that gave us a clear separation of OSRS and rs3, dungeoneering and EOC are why there is even an OSRS

We’re right on the money with making sailing more like a dungeoneering mini game that trains construction/fishing/crafting and integrates skills already in the game. It’s already way too much grinding/repetition with skills we have. The osrs community isn’t a bunch of 11 yr olds with too much time on their hands anymore.. but Pvp/commandeering/kidnapping crew members would be sick. I hope jagex doesn’t fumble the bag on this one
Exploring makes more sense. Boats, magic carpets, fly brooms, and eagles as alternatives to running everywhere each with trade-offs. Island generation and treasure chests based on your explorer level. Fixing your boat gives construction. Working with your egal gives hunter, fixing your magic carpet or broom stick gives crafting. Exploring and shamanism should have been the new skills. Different kinds of poisons for your weapons or arrows. Different kinds of teas you can brew. And hybrids of herbalism and shamanism to make new brews. The boat combat is the only thing that is sailing related in the update. Everything else is related to another skill

I’m excited for the new skill. Adding new content, whether that’s a boss, skill or mini game is good for the game over the long term. Everyone complaining just wants the same content for 25 years+ because they’re brain dead. This looks so fun, especially when they want to add Slayer, fishing & mining activities within the new skill. This is so much more useful that firemaking, agility and woodcutting. This actually adds to the game.
They are offering the posibility to be and travel manually on the sea (all those decorative water tiles will no longer be just decorative). I think that sounds dope, and that can't be called a minigame; that's more like a feature
Imagine you sail into the wilderness and can fire cannon balls that damage ship hitpoints and sink peoples ships or freeze them with a barraga or something
to who was it a meme. I thought it looked cool back when it was talked about vs. the other options.They still have a year b4 it releases. Imo, this would be the thing that gets me back into osrs after 6 years

Sailing doesnt necessarily have too be a skill or minigame, it can just be a new form of travel like fairy rings. And while you travel you can potentially crash on an island and have chance at certain loot or bosses depending on which area you try going and would have too do a mini raid for some of them. I feel like that would be kinda cool 🤷♂️

@@kaiwingyuen1861 firemaking has wintertodt, woodcutting has forestry. Sailing is just fishing/construction on a boat. I'd rather them spend time making other skills better than rush another one and forget it years later
People don't realize it's still atleast 1 more year before we get a decent look into the skill overall, this will open up the map, we need this skill to work as a bridge for a shit ton of new content

I was all in for sailing before because I thought it’s going be a lot better than running chores from a to the b or finding shipwreck just looting them with a hook. I guess my expectations were too high.

is it only me or does the skill really seem like they have no idea what they're doing? Maybe it's just that I don't play runescape as much nowadays but is sailing really gonna be "go to a port to equip this specific part on the ship, go to this area to use that part, unlock a new ship part, repeat" Like am I really gonna have to sail my ship 1000 tiles to find a shipwreck only to notice I don't have my ship salvage module or whatever and need to go all the way back, because instead of having the salvage module equipped, I choose the shark harpoon or whatever the ruck.
I imagine this will be like mining with maybe a diving minigame. Where you cant dive places you dont have the ship and lvl for. Maybe this is gonna be a money making skill?
its a huge update, but i fell like those mods are not doing the most out of it… Sailing could be a game changer if they add stuff like a river at the wilderness where people could sail there to pk other players on their own boats with cannons, raid the boat and steal the loot just like pirates. things like small to bigger ships, the bigger the more expensive it will be and stronger, players could have docks to “bank” the ship. Trimming the ship, bring clans on ships like a real crew and etc
I loved summoning. I hated getting the charms. The actual use of the skill was great. I think the shamanism would have been so much cooler than sailing
They're basing it off of a text MUD mechanics that already exists. Sailing does open up the possibilities of hidden quests or a dungeoneering like mechanic to osrs.
I think the idea of sailing is great. Whether it’s a mini game or skill, I don’t really care. The only thing that matters is that they add fun content and don’t make it a chore skill. Make it fun with high exp rates. We have enough skills to grind.
I'm grinding for a max cape on my IRONMAN right now, im 2214 total and I can not wait for Sailing. It's just more content in the game I play and love,, no one should be salty.
Rather annoyed to have to grind out another 99 for my cape functions. Skill looks a long way out, and I agree it should not be a full skill addition but a supplement to other skills.

Only thing i dont like is them spending so much development time on something iffy like this. It may lead to a ton of new of new content though. We just gotta pray they dont arbitrarily lock content behind this, or have this ruin other things in the game that are established.
People using the firemaking skill to justify sailing don't understand that skill was introduced when the game first launched 20 years ago. If you're going to add a skill 20 years later it better be great. If not then we can look forward to many more lack luster skills in the future.
I'd be down for dungeoneering and add some kind of extra thing for jobs like sailing or slayer has and call it adventuring. Sailing is a bad skill since you can use con to just repair a ship. might as well just be a minigame.
@@cic3000 absolutely not and you brought up very important thing. Why add a new skills while we have so many uninteresting that needs fixing. Ofc for cooking and fletching they are both afk which means you can have “fun” doing them if you are watching movies etc. but with sailing it seems afk possibilities are quite limited.
I think we basically fix 2 ships in quest in game. I feel like it should be like a poh but it moves around and has less features. Sailing shouldnt be a skill it should just give xp to various skills like crafting construction fishing strength range agility prayer that kind of thing. A kraken fight the ships should also have NPCs on it. I think this will be like forestry itll goto far and get reworked to be easier and smaller.

Your argument about the skill being translatable to other skills makes so much sense. i get that many in the community want to "keep Old School old school," but we can't say that while also voting yes to change base XP rates at agility courses. its' contradictory to be okay with one change but not another, especially when Jagex is putting in hundreds of man-hours into a new skill. When was the last time they truly released something genuinely AWFUL when it was brand new? Idk if they have ever had a truly catastrophic release of any major game update. At some point, I hope Jagex releases an "older Old School RuneScape" version that takes us back to around a year after the initial release of osrs and show all these neckbeards cosplaying as high level pvmers and "skillers" just how much content actually came with old school. you know how autistic you are for pvp knowledge and stuff of that sort. im sure a kid out there is like that about pirates and will find runescape because of this new skill.
Taking away the wilds was big. I remember i played for a few weeks then entered the nerfed wild and was so disappointed i forgot thats characters login.
