Cat vs Cummins you’re on point Troy. We run up in Canada at 140,000lbs through the mountains buddy has a identical 379 with a cat to my 389 his is cranked up to 700 something I’m running the 605 Cummins otherwise identical running gear and sure the bottom of the hill he can out pull me but by half way up he’s hot and I’m passing him then on a he backside he’s barely holding the grade at 15mph touching the brakes I’m doing 25-30 no brakes longevity wise I got 600, 000 working that Cummins day in and day out with big weights on big hills before a warranty inframe he’s getting half that life with the added power. Cat is so cool sounds good, easy to work on but it doesn’t compare they are two different beasts
I agree I think Pete did a hell of a job keeping the hood truck alive dealing with all the government regulations, I just have to get used to that big windshield but a nice drop visor should handle that.
@@alexnorcross752 I don't think that's optional... without it, you'll have to deal with that obnoxious snow spot. The snow and rain accumulates just to the right of your line of sight vision where the blades can't touch, so without a bigger visor you're stuck fighting that bare spot in weather.
Truck looks great. I would easily buy one. We got a 2024 389 last spring with 605 X15 and an Endurant XD Pro 18 speed. It’s pulling 140,000 lbs of grain trailers out of fields and on hwy. It is Awesome!! Highly recommend the Endurant XD pro.
Really enjoy ur second language that is sarcasm.. I speak it fluently and ur honesty is off the hook!! Oh yea, my wife is wondering how we can get some swag from ya? Really enjoy watching ur videos!!
hey, boomer here too; 1693TA was my fave...agree with you about tech...I like the new 589...I like the spec you put together, no doubt you care about drivers! BTW, I am a broker now...dont hate me...
Great video! I really enjoyed it. I had the opportunity to sit in a 589 flat top a while back, and l liked it. I’m hoping that Roadworks comes out with a breather chop kit like they have with the 389. Also if I was an engineer, I would of extended the front of the cab out like the 389/379, where the breathers would of not been right up to the hood. Making it easier to add breather lights front and back, while making the front end look longer. I also would of kept the 389 door handles, and explore door mounted mirrors, making it easier to install various styles of drop visors.
that is a really nice truck you have there. I think the shifting gears part is just part of what makes driving a truck fun I mean that way you can actually feel the truck . It's just always been like that and more and more people these days just can't learn how to shift gears so you have to accommodate for those people and it's just easier I understand that from a business point of view. It is what it is. Some people like it some people prefer it some don't. I prefer shifting I guess it's just a preference, or newer students are intimidated and scared to learn how to shift who knows
I like the 589! The wider cab, the more visibility out the windshield, what’s not to like? I miss my old 389 a little bit, but I believe the 589 would more than make up for it!
Honestly I like it. It is very close to the 389 and the big windshield is nothing to me. I used to have a Pete 363 with the big 1 piece windshield and yes drove it from Maryland to California several times. Being older I am getting into the automatic trans over the manual. Especially now that there is an 18 speed. Great video Troy.
Great look-see, Troy. Beautiful truck, and like ALL of them it has its plusses and minuses. But, I think that all adds up to preference, and how you can personalize it to your needs. I never saw one stock 389 without some beefs. The main thing about this truck is to fix those squeeks. Make Peterbilt aware of it, and let them know of the cause. Otherwise, it looks like a winner.
As A retired driver of transfer dumps, I like the break peddle on the floor better, not KW style like 567/589s now have. Easier to go from gas to brake when moving around tight spaces. Great walk-around video .
I like it. I'm a big guy and I don't like how little the 389's and w 9's cab is. This truck is nice, plus I would probably run that auto 18 too. Nice truck!!!
I like it the hood rattle can be resolved easily. Great color choice. Thanks for letting everyone know about the bumper deal. Personally I like the automatic miss the manuals but at the end of day either one is great. The rectangle matching is kinda old school from the 379 don't you think? Over all is a sweet ride and your driver are very lucky. Yes why the heck do people need to come take stuff that doesn't belong to them. Great video Troy
Nice truck, from research the rectangles go back to the early days of Peterbuilts so my guess is they are bringing in the heritage part of it. From my understanding, only the first 589 Peterbuilts built will have a number badge on the dash also. I like it... I watched a video about the resemblance and they stated the mirrors or from the Cali Trucks, the front grill, lights, fenders, and fender steps they wanted to carry over that 389 heritage with some minor updates. I can't wait to see what customers do to their trucks.
That sounds like a great idea my dad's 589 is candy red with black hockey strips and a picture of a black bull on the side of the hood it's making a about 750hp with a glider kit installed on transmission what a monster I tell you and he has 6inch straight pipes on her🤞🏾🎶🎵💪🏾
On those automatic 18s if you are empty or bobtail, when at a stop, you can pre-select your first gear at 5 or 6 so you’re not going through those short gears. It will reset after every key cycle, or if you change at the next stop.
Loving the honest non-bias review. All ive herd from certian ppl is hate on them but i see potential. Love your content, style and fleet Trpy be safe and keep um coming. Also where can we buy some tristate merch?
I think it's a very clean truck, and looks very nice, the only thing I would change would be the dash, I don't care for the 567 dash, I would have preferred to see the 389 dash in there, but tweaked to fit perfectly in the smaller more aero type 567 cab, other than that I love the truck
Beautiful truck, not a fan of automatics. Seeing years now I’m behind in the technology. What I will say is I had an 05 379 and I see Peterbilt still hasn’t cured the rubbing hood, I used to grease them both but in extremely hot weather the grease would just run off there, good luck with your new trucks found you by accident but I joined up for future videos. Take care of that hand. 👌
Hello myself I like the replacement I would have to get used to a automatic but it's a very nice truck now I wish that peterbilt would have rise the roof on cab and sleeper a little more.
NO WINDSHIELD BAR GAVE IT AWAY LOVE THE TRUCK BUT GOTTA HAVE MAN TRANS AND LOWER SEAT WOULD LOVE TO GET A CHANCE IN ONE OF THEM NEW TRUCKS IM RETIRED 37 YEARS OVER THE ROAD MOST CAB OVER THEN FREIGHT LINER CONV CAT 13 SPEED LOVED THAT TRUCK !!
Dude...talk to your dealer about getting the security system setup on those new trucks. It's a lock code that the driver will have to memorize and put in every time they start the truck and it's nothing extra that has to be added. Just parameters in the software. I've had it in several peterbilt trucks and it's an added peace of mind for sure.
After being forced into retirement from an injury, I now instruct. We only teach manual. The kids always ask me my opinion on automatics, I tell them straight down the freeway they're ok. Anything else I don't care for them. But my old knee does.😅
Been a company since 2006. 61 years old now and looking into becoming an owner operator. Looking into either a W900L or the new 589. Have to watch my weight either way I go though. Use to move brand new Kenworths and Peterbilts when I worked for Active USA. Always enjoyed when my lead truck was a W900L or a 389.
@@scottsymons6152 please don’t take this the wrong way but you’re 61. Don’t do it! The money just isn’t there unless you’re gonna haul specialized. Are you sitting on a pile of cash? I’ll sell you a 2017 389 for $75k. New trucks are expensive!
@@JimmyD6977 Spent 26 years in a UAW automotive assembly plant. Lost my retirement when the plant closed. Lost my 401K in my divorce. So I can never really retire persay. But, I can enjoy working and at least call some of my own shots. Still love driving. Oh...and I'm a Kenworth fan too.
@@scottsymons6152 understood. Unless you really want the w9, look for a t660 thats been taken care of. Same truck from the dash back. Get a low rider seat and you’ll never see the hood anyhow. Get a full mpg better =$10 a year.
Where do I apply? After watching the video I’m ready for the automatic. Never been a reefer hauler but I’m ready for a change. Glad the sleeper has a door again!!! Tell Dr Pepper and Boomer it’s been fun. 😂
It is definitely different, not a bad looking Pete but you can not beat a 359, 379 or 389 just saying. Don't like the automatic or the Big windshield but it's new so I'm sure it will grow on ya. Not bad Troy, I would drive it.. 👊👊
Just a little silicone spray on the hood friction points and its all good. My only thing as a retired driver who ran Mt. Hood in Oregon for many years I hate the curved windshield due to the ice buildup on the wiper blades causing the wiper to lift off the glass. Never had that happen with my old flat glass windshield trucks. Maybe someone will invent a heated wiper blade soon.
I like it. But the hood noise would drive me insane. I like the fact that it has working exhaust stacks not that grass burner stuff. I also think it needs a chicken wing like top hat's truck.
Times have changed in economy. I think this 589 will make the money you need to play with and pay the bills. The window is alot like the T2000 which you can see around you better. Ill take a 389 any time but im like you….. i also would head to Cali in the 589. Good job Peterbilt
I'd like to know why they put kenworth steps on my brand new peterbuilt. And that hood noise has got to GO. other than that I agree with you it's a nice ride.
