It’s funny as soon as you pull those eggs out of your pocket the first thought in my mind was LUNCH!! 😂😂😂 Every time you use the word Chef when referring to the size potato it brings me back to my days of being a chef in Cali. Such a versatile spud, we used it for everything. I worked in a restaurant named “Silky Sullivan” little Irish pub and Restaurant down in Fountain Valley and we would go through at least 300-400 pounds a week in spuds. Then on St Paddy’s day we would blow through about 1200 pounds.

12:20 Wes Pandy (onelonelyfarmer) recently had to replace the hood on his 8120 for that same reason. It had become so brittle, there came a point it was breaking just by manipulating it a little, had the consistency of potato chips. He replaced it with a metal one.

There's a pond in his backyard and until it's dry he can't go in the fields, the moon phase is also a good indicator. he usualy plant from the last week of april to the first of june depending of the condition but usualy plant in two weeks about 500 acres of potato and 450 of corn.

How long normally do potatoes last from picking to shipping to stores and customers??
@BellsFarming
@BellsFarming 3 месяца назад
Well for us, this year they have lasted October to March. And we will have the tote bags to that should last us until august. So probably 10 months for our farm.

@@mikemorgan4726by the time you get them at the store they are warmed up, when I said 10 months, I was talking about in our storage. But we have ideal conditions in there. The grocery store is warm and very light. That is why they start to sprout.

The potatoes will keep that long in those tote bags? Did think they could get air in them?? Do you guys have any issues with hollow heart?? Do you use an xray machine to check them??

We rarely have hollow heart issues, but no we don’t have x ray. We still keep air circulating in storage and try and keep it under 50 and they will keep in tote bags till august

They will keep in the tote bags. Of course towards July august they are not perfect looking. But they are used for French fries mostly. So it’s ok We do not use X-ray to check for hollow heart. Some of the really large ones will have it occasionally from growing too fast. But it’s not a big problem

Does your farm have difficulties with fields turning into flood plains . . . after a month of torrential rain? This happened with another RU-vid channel and it killed his crops - his videos show the lakes covering parts of several fields
@BellsFarming

No we haven’t had much trouble. This past year we have had more “lakes” in the fields than I can ever remember. But they usually happen when there are no crops in the ground. Spring and fall

How did the hood get damaged
@shanebell9589

Just a cheap plastic design from John Deere, heat and sunlight must make it brittle over the years, I think this was the first series of plastic hoods.

you know Molly it is sad to say as much as a John Deere costs..... and all the advertising they do,... on how tough and reliable / durable they are...... even the big tractors have plastic hoods and as they vibrate and rattle they fall apart. get UV rotted and fall to pieces. I have a riding lawn mower and it did the the same as yours.... just falling apart and for a small price of 400 hundred dollars i can have another hood that fits my mower and for another 150. i can have all the decals too. So i said nope i used green duct tape and then scuffed the hood inside and used fiber glass cloth and resin. And they say hahaha nothing runs like a Deere meaning tough and durable Right watch how in a few years how it weather checks again... fades and becomes brittle. can't they just make them out of metal for as much as we pay for them?!
@BellsFarming

Yeah, I think this good was the first generation of plastic ones. I would hope that they have made some improvements. I do wish metal was an option
