Now as for sides that was started by the fans. Brief history. Europe. Summer 2002. The band is looking for an opening act. They chose this band called After Forever led by this young Dutch singer named Floor Jansen. Tarja and Floor became friends then and still are over 20 years later. Now fast forward its 2013. Belgium The Female Voicee of Metal Festival IX. (9). Tarja as a solo artist headlines as she is already a living legend,but humble, sweet, kind and quick to support up and coming talent and team up with established talent. Talking to the crowd,stumbling over her English words (she speaks 5 fluently) out of excitment she annouces to the crowd she has a special guest she has invited to join her on stage. Her good friend Ms Floor Jansen!!! They sing the Gary Moore song NW covered on an album in 2000 and continued to cover since. Over the hills and far away. Sadly the sound mixer messed up the audio. But regardless the Queens are dancing arm in arm hyping the crowd and playing to them. At the end Tarja tells the crowd, No hate only love! That was for the public. In private when Floor was offered the job to join NW she aaked Tarja for her blessing because she had no desire to do something that would cause her friend Tarja to be upset over her history with the band. That blessing was generously given and it was official after Anette had to leave tour and the band decided to offer Floor membeshup permantly that she would be their 3rd and currrent singer. Anette and the band disagree about who said and chose what about their parting at the time. Like they did 5 yeaes earlier when Tarja was fired. To that it is now settled. It was differences in priorities, conduct, values and a break down in communucation that spiraled out of control that led to the split. Now things are civil and polite if not warm between them. Now Tarja and Marko made up Xmas 2017 at a National Finnish TV concert. Marko has been Tarja's guest at tines past and have toured South/Central America earlier this year and have dates in Europe together over summer/autumn 2024. They are close friends and the best long term singing partners either have had. You will see it. Everyone is heathy and happy and working on their careers. There are no sides. No animosity.
And yes, Tarja was the first singer, she and Tuomas met when they were 12/13 years old 😊 after they graduated from school he showed up on her doorstep and asked if she wanted to join his bandproject and the rest is history 😊
Yes, Tarja is the first, one of the original members of the band. Her voice is lovely, and, especially at that time, the combination of that type of voice and music was so unique that it really caught people's attention. I'm not quoting this exactly but, when Marko joind the band Tuomas said something to the effect of "How lucky are we to have the two best singers in Finland in our band?" I'm in the path of totality, and am very excited. It is supposed to be cloudy in my area, Rochester, NY, but that won't disappoint me. If it were clear, totality would make it look like twilight. The more clouds there are, the darker it will get. That suits me because my interest lies more in the silence of the total eclipse than in actually watching the moon completely block the sun.
This is stunningly beautiful. Tarja is an amazing singer. You won’t get it from this song, because it is such a beautiful ballad, but Tarja actually is hard to better with her stage presence, especially in her solo work. As a suggestion, rather than picking between them, why not love both Floor and Tarja and enjoy two of the best female vocalists around? Thank you for being so honest in your reaction.
Floor and Tarja are good friends since they met in 2002. A young Floor Jansen fronting a band called After Forever. Nightwish reached out to them to be the opening act in Europe for the Century Child Tour. What has passed between the ex bandmates never had anything to do with eachother. Tarja is trained in German Lied (leed) Singing. Full of vibrato and vertically elongated vowels. She knows how to project and yes she can belt. The split was over personal issues and differing needs between the members. Leads to lack of communication. But they are reconciled and civil to each other now. Marko and Tarja toured South America and will tour Europe together. Not hard to see why Floor saw Tarja as Iconic. Tarja was co-founder with Tuomas and Empu. All I need to say is watch Tarja more and you will see why she is the legend she is. 27 years since Angels Fall First. Her debut with Nightwish. 18 years since she went solo. Everyone who knows Tarja loves her.
Thank you for reacting to Nightwish with Tarja, if it wasn't for Tarja's voice there wouldn't have been a Nightwish nor doors open for other singers. When Tuomas had asked Tarja to join the band and heard her singing he said they were shocked of how powerful and dramatic her voice is and that's at a young age, and that wasn't going to work for what he originally wanted to do which was Folk/Acoustic, so he went towards metal and incorporated her operatic voice and that's how Nightwish was born, from Tarja's voice. I have been listening to them from late 90's and no one sounded like them, not alone metal/opera and Tarja's unique voice which is not typical or generic. This whole live concert *End of an Era* and *From Wishes to Eternity* you will see hidden gems that you will never see now, besides all those popular songs everyone loves like *Ghost love Score*, *Ever Dream* and many more were written in Tarja's era for her voice and are the originals, later was reconstructed to fit other singers voices. Also, you will not see any love songs written now as when written in Tarja's era, Tuomas showed many signs, body language, documentaries and in lyrics that there was romantic feelings for Tarja, many people will disagree but love can't be faked and many do see it. They knew each other since they were 12, same town and school, they go way back. Another comment Tuomas said in an interview *Tarja is the best interpreter of my music and feelings* You are going to love this band's history and their older live shows, they are a true gem you won't see now, including special guests and Tuoma's friends, plus baby Nightwish live songs. In Nightwish Tarja was much younger than Floor and it was her first band, Floor had experience before Nightwish. But if you react to songs like "Slaying the Dreamer", "Wishmaster" or "Wish I Has an Angel" from the same show (End of an Era) you will see Tarja not standing in one place, but she is opera trained singer, she not using any harsh vocals, it would destroy her instrument, classical and operatic singing is very demanding. If you want to see and hear really free Tarja and also her full vocal abilities, I really recommend her solo stuff, she has rock/metal songs, ballads, classical songs, christmas songs, dark and gothic christmas songs and she's also in electronic duet Outlanders. In Nightwish you can't really hear it, but she has very dark, low chest voice, so beautiful. I recommend her song "Victim of Ritual" live from Woodstock 2016.
@@RikaShae if you really want hard dark spell-binding Tarja (and Marko too) with Nightwish: (even some rocking on invisible guitar, head windmills, and etc theatrics too) (oh, does Tarja have amazing stage presence, easily as much as Floor, but with some songs with nightwish, she's been a bit more restrained, and for all songs with nightwish, she lets the entire band shrine, instead of it just being about her, like it mostly is with Floor, Tarja is absolutely NOT a "selfish diva", never has been, not with nightwish, not with anyone else) (remember, the concerts/albums/covers must be BEFORE 2006, for Tarja's performances) (not ranked, just listed) 1. Tarja IS the original singer ('96-'05). Yes, Tarja is more operatic than Floor, the most operatic of the 3 ladies. This concert was in Helsinki 2005, same show as the High Hopes video you did with Marko singing. The song played just before it actually, songs 7 and 8 of 18. Songs 5 and 6 are highly recommended too, Marko and Tarja singing together, on the cover of "Phantom of the Opera" and "The Siren". I'm in the path of the total eclipse, in Buffalo, but cloudy all day, typical weather.☹ Good song for today. Another one, that you might consider, is the brand new one from The Warning called "Automatic Sun". You haven't reacted to them yet, if you're not familiar, highly recommend checking them out. They are a 3 sister Mexican rock band (most songs are in English).
I did a live stream with on another reactors channel named Zack Reacts and they introduced me to The Warning, they are super impressive, that drummer is insane all the things she’s doing while killing it.
Thank you! A beautiful song for sure, no matter which singer🥰 Floor and Tarja are very different. I love them both! Tarja does have more classical sounding voice in NW than Floor also a darker tone than Floor. Tarja continued to develop her voice through her solo career. Tarja has a vast range now and deeper chest voice that she uses quite often nowadays. She also has quite captivating stage presence, especially nowadays. A fun song for you to check out would be Tarja and Marko's (Nightwis's ex basist) new song called Left on Mars. They released it about a month ago. Tarja and Marko reconciliated some years ago and now they are singing and performing together again. They are having so much fun! Tarja was one of the founding members, also huge part of the reason why Nightwish became a metal band.

Marko wrote this song as a love song to his wife, but it became a song that reunited two friends😁
Glad you liked Tarja, too, do not resist :) She can be more energetic, too, with different songs :) check out Wishmaster, then Slaying the Dreamer, both from this concert (End of an Era). But yeah she is the true opera singer, that's her primary focus, while for Floor it is in about 3rd or 4th place behind rock, musical and classical techniques.

They have so so many amazing songs! :) Tarja has this beautifully pure and back in the day very dark and rich voice that was such a unique juxtaposition to the heavy music. Maybe!! At least you have gone back and listened to Tarja.....many reactors don't go back and check her out. Most of the original stuff I prefer Tarja over Floor and that is probably because that is who I started with. I am not saying Floor isn't good....with the stuff written for her she is the perfect choice....but when it comes to the original stuff it's Tarja for me. You will have to check out the rest of the show with Tarja and especially Phantom of the Opera.

I was prepaired but unfortunally on this day it was massive cloudy so i couldn´t expirience it. Actually i will probaly never witness a total eclipse in my life, cause the next visible eclipse in Germany will be in 2086. However, Happy Solar Eclipse, my friend....sty safe

@@bridgetmccracken1381 I’m not sure if that’s the plan TBH. When I was first introduced to NW I had no idea of the history and was given a list I could follow. Now that I know there’s different eras to the band and different styles with each singer, I may be switching around much more.

Yes, Tarja is very operatic in style. Tarja definitely has a beautiful voice. Both are amazing in their own style. Tarja was the original, then Annette, and now Floor. I agree with your commentary.
I'm definitely on Team Floor even though I cut my teeth on original Nightwish with Tarja. That being said, this version of Sleeping Sun is my hands-down favorite. Did you catch the goosebump-inducing subtle touch where she flaps her angel wings on that white gown (just before Empuu's solo)? Another one from this concert (and this is just my personal tastes) is Ever Dream. I just like Tarja's delivery of Ever Dream better, mainly because of the ending after Empuu's guitar solo. Tarja delivers those closing choruses in a much softer, gentler, less belting tone. And for me I think it fits the melancholy mood of the song. And, of course, the Tarj is Queen in my book when it comes to Wishmaster, The Siren, and Planet Hell from this concert. Getting away from singers for the moment and just referring to the technical mixing and pyro design of the concerts, I still love this version of Ghost Love Score to listen to occasionally in between my marathon bouts of enjoying Floorgasms with her signature, unparalleled ending because of the sound mixing and pyro. At Wacken 2013 (my opinion) the techs mixed the orchestra background just a tad bit to quiet. In this Hartwall Arena concert, I like that they upscaled the orchestra just a little bit more. And favorite of all, I love the use of the giant confetti cannons during the part which evokes the 1812 Overture in its style. First time I saw it way back when, it reminded me of the 1960's TV commercial for Quaker Puffed Rice cereal, "The Cereal That's Shot From Guns," which used the 1812 Overture as the jingle. But that's just me!! LOL

I low key get why you felt a little “disloyal”. I actually started with Tarja. The band has evolved over the years and it’s interesting to see the progression. Each singer fit the style back then. It’s perfectly fine to like all of the singers. A lot of times their versions of the songs are so different than the other that it’s just like having extra goodness. 😊
It’s weird cuz I have a friend that was in a pretty famous band, (my wife went to jr high and high school with them) we used to go to all their shows when they were in our area, they’d stay at our house, we’d hang out before and after the shows, but then he left the band and now I feel bad listening to them with the new bassist

Meh, Floor has the privilege of newer and better video and stage quality. If you want to see crowd control, you should check out their “From Wishes to Eternity” concert. That’s back in their power metal days. Sorry, new NW just doesn’t compare.
That’s why I love music so much, one person can hate a song while others love it. I will definitely go back to see their older stuff as well, I might actually like a heavier version of them more, we will see!
