Agreed, these are amazing so is Out of the Frying Pan, Read em and Weep, All revved up and no place to go, Everything Louder than everything else and Dead Ringer, lol
Omg I was in tears watching your stunned face when he said "I bet you say that to all the boys"...however, he wasn't referring to her sticking her tongue down his throat to steal his words, he meant she said "I love you" when he was about to say it first You have GOT to see Bat Out of Hell and Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through (you'll see a familiar face there)
Meat Loaf was a mega singer. But the songwriter was a musical genuis. That's Jim Steinman, talking in the intro of the song and playing the keyborad/piano. Look up the trail of songs he wrote, not only for Meat Loaf but for many other wonderful artists as well!
The whole Bat Out of Hell album is fire. The guy talking in the into was Jim Steinman. He co-wrote the album. Also, he wrote and sings on Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse of the Heart. I think you should listen to it as well.
Anyone here part of the Loafdom fan site back in the day? Meat Loaf used to get on and converse all the time. While he was down with back, about 2yrs before he passed, he used get in the chats of reactors.
I was able to see Meat Loaf 4 of the many times that he performed in Australia with my best friend, they were 4 of the best concerts we have ever attended. We knew at the 4th concert that it would be the last time we would ever get to see him live again and it hit me hard. I have loved his music since I was 9 years old, Bat Out of Hell and Rocky Horror Picture Show cassette tapes came out in around late 1975/ early1976, Australia being at the other end of the world we had to wait at least 6 months before stuff was available to us. We played those tapes until they were worn out. I am probably in the minority here but I think his best Album was Bad Attitude with Cheating In Your Dreams being the best song Meat Loaf has ever recorded. That whole album just spoke to me. All 3 Bat Out of Hell Albums, Welcome to the Neighborhood and the rest of his back catalogue are just worth listening to, there will most likely not be many video's that cover all of his songs. Meat Loaf and Jim had such a great friendship (with some long periods of estrangement) but they were able to come together and make some of the greatest music of their generations. When we lost Jim and then Meat Loaf they were 2 of the saddest days in music because we will never get that kind of music again. One thing that people who react to any songs before the mid to late 90's need to remember they were such different times, and what we now call Pop Culture can't be held up against those decades in the same context 75% of the stuff did not even exist. I am so glad so many new fans are discovering music from the 60's, 70's, 80's and some 90's stuff but you really had to be there to understand the feeling that those songs invoked in people. My world as an Australian was smaller, safer, carefree and filled with music that has woven themselves through the decades of my life, a life enriched by Meat Loaf and Jim. I do love your facial expressions when you listen to the lyrics again, back then we listed to the music and we had no idea the words of these songs would in some cases mean something every different today to their meanings back then.
Go through the whole "Bat out of Hell" album whenever you can. If you have to react to another song, do it with a guest. This is an album that I can listen to front to back, just as I did when I got it for Christmas.
😊❤ Hi! This song and the others you mentioned are all part of the 'Bat Out Of Hell' album. The title song is the first one. It is a concept album basically about prom night. That's why he is wearing the tux shirt in the live performances. You are absolutely correct that it has a story line, from one song to the next. You won't find a bad song in his catalog!! RIP Meat and Jim! 😇 Gone too soon. Luv ya!! 😊❤❤
I grew up on Meatloaf and if you don’t know it’s called rock-n-roll opera. The genius made a career out of 2 albums one mega movie (the rocky horror picture) and a few small rolls but damn
😅 been enjoying your musical journey.. hope some day you'll check out Stray Cats, Adam Ant, Dead Or Alive or Culture Club. They all are benchmarks of their genres. Always entertained here at Black Pegasus ❤
Oops, forgot to say that this song is the best ever excuse not to say 'I Love You' because she took the words right out of my mouth, therefore I don't have to say it!!
Disclaimer ... I don't get a commission on BP membership endorsements, never met the guy, I dropped $3.99 which is less than a Filet o' Fish and I genuinely enjoy the music selection, starting to hear hip hop or rap that I kind of like, though I still don't know the difference between the two, and the reactions are a combination of insightful and entertaining. Drop the money, live a little.
The guy at the beginning is the genius that wrote these songs! The late great Jim Steinman. They passed away within months of each other. Their concerts were freaking amazing.
I've got nothing but respect for both of them, but the intro on the album is so much better. For that reason alone, I'd like to see people react to the audio version only. Regarding that intro, it definitely appeals to and is understood by certain groups of people. I loved it when I first heard it, and still do. But it always catches people off guard.
Meatloaf, king of rock opera. He is an actor first and loves to tell a story. I had the honor of seeing him in concert once, it was a show of a lifetime. The best concert and also Broadway level entertainment. Next stop... Bat out of Hell, video version. I grew up in the very best music generation ever.
I am 40, I thank my dad all of the time for introducing me to his music. I even had him buy me Bat out of Hell and Bat out of Hell II for Christmas one year!
Offering your throat to the wolf is a sign of trust and courage, as the wolf's nature, is to tear out your throat and kill you for food. Similar to Dashboard "does he love me?" then I'll take the rose.
Yeah, I USUALLY really like BP’s reactions but this was such a tasteless and childish interpretation of a beautiful song. Needs to get out of the rap mind and reach a little farther.
I said this before but I really love your reactions. I'm a 71 year old white woman and privileged to grow up with the best music. You need to react to Dusty Springfield beginning with Son of a Preacher Man.😊
Bat out of Hell will absolutely floor you and Meatloaf himself declared For Crying Out Loud the greatest love song ever written. You definitely need to check those two out next.
You need to listen to the entire Bat out of Hell album. 1. Bat out of Hell 2. You took the words right out of my mouth 3. Heaven Can Wait 4. Heaven Can Wait 5. Two Out of Three Ain't Bad 6. Paradise by the Dashboard Light 7. For Crying out Loud
Meatloaf considered himself an actor who could sing....and his performances were really him playing a character, acting out a scene ....and like great acting scenes, it leads up to a climactic, cathartic buildup!.....He had a very unique talent!
It was only on Broadway (or rather, 'off-Broadway' as it wasn't actually on Broadway) for a few months - starting in September 2019 before the Covid lockdowns happened and then never returned. Surprisingly, the musical was never that popular in North America (a US/Canadian tour was abandoned after only a month or two, and a LA production was also cancelled). It was far more successful in the UK where it debuted in 2018 and ran until last year (apart from a Covid lockdown gap). I saw it 3 times in the UK - twice in the West End (London) and once on tour in Stoke. All were sold out, as I believe pretty much every show in the UK was, and I believe the West End return after Covid broke box office records. It was honestly the best musical I've ever seen, and if it were to start up again I would definitely go see it again. Extensive footage of the shows can be found on RU-vid and some are well worth watching to appreciate how good the show was.
I saw Meatloaf in 1978. The concert was pretty much like this footage. The whole Bat Out of Hell album was fantastic from start to finish. You could react to the entire album and be blown away
I feel as if a part of my youth died with the passing of this wonderful entertainer and genuine human being. Marvin Lee Aday (Michael) AKA Meatloaf your musical performances will live on! Thanks for the decades of memories.
Jim Steinman, the guy with the glasses and piano player .. heard Meatloaf sing and found the guy to sing his operatic style music. He wrote to his voice. They were the Greatest duo! RIP to Both!
Before he became a rock icon, Meatloaf's background was as an actor in stage productions and musical theater. Of all the actors they auditioned for the role of Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), he was the only one who could sing all the words to the character's signature song, "Hot Patootie," which won him the role. He not only had an intuitive sense for the music, but also a passion for performing. This is what first brought him and songwriter Jim Steinman together in 1973, and led them to become musical collaborators with "Bat Out Of Hell," and its sequels.
You may have noticed that Meatloaf isn't exactly the leading man type. But he performed some of the most beautiful love songs ever. --- Courtesy Jim Steinman. A once in a lifetime collaboration.
There was nobody else like Meat Loaf, he is deeply missed. You really need to check out some of his stuff he did later in his career. He matured somewhat, but his live performances were still fantastic. A good one to experience is his live version of "I'd Lie For You And That's The Truth." Check out the live video where Patti Russo is wearing the red dress (Patti was a longtime performer with Meat Loaf and sang the girl parts on albums starting with the album "Bat Out of Hell 2). Anyway, you will love this performance.
One of the great things about Meat Loaf and other artists of such eras, they’re not blatant. Seductive, sensual words, metaphors - but never crass. Conway Twitty. :)
Is that what it was? You know, I've watched that one since it was on VH1. I thought he was doing like, a Beauty and the Beast reference type thing. Lol
OMG! I just can’t believe someone finally reacted to Meatloaf!!! I’ve always wanted to make this request but didn’t think that anyone would actually do it!!! THANK YOU! More please!
There’s lots of reactors that’ve covered MeatLoaf (and were much more informative & classier reactions). His mind is too set in degradation rap. Search Meat Loaf reactions. The Charismatic Voice has done a few too.
"Would you offer your throat" was referring to the outside of her throat (her neck). Think hickey. It was also more in reference to a more fantasy situation, like a werewolf or vampire. Not sticking your tongue, or anything else, down her throat. When viewed from that perspective, all the other lines in the intro make more sense. "How much do you love me?" "More than life itself." "Would you give your life for me?" "Yes." "I bet you say that to all the boys..." 😂
Rock Opera was a very unique genre and Meat was the undisputed king within. You might spend some time exploring the full genre where you'll find classics like "Rocky Horror Picture Show", "Little Shop of Horrors", and the first self-proclaimed rock opera "Tommy". It took a very special set of talents to write, compose, produce, and then perform in the rock opera genre and thank goodness for Meat Loaf who brought it out into the full light of day in a spectacular way!
Meatloaf had a voice that was unmatched. This song is one of my favorites. Great shit! The 70's were artistic, a lot of drama, a lot of acting. Meatloaf was a great actor in the cult classic THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (Eddie). Incredibly talented. Check out - "Hot Patootie Bless My Soul".
I don’t get weird and offended, but I got my own bills to pay so I’m not joining ANYONES memberships 🤷🏻♀️ But I’m not at all offended by you working to make that 🤑 You do you and I’ll support the shit out of that, even if I’m not contributing financially! 👏👏👏
It's a theatrical piece - likely hinting at the story of 'Little Red Riding Hood'... 😂Jim Steinman, who wrote and composed the song did the spoken intro... Steinman wrote Meat Loaf's biggest records ('Bat out of Hell' ... 'Dead Ringer' ... 'Bat out of Hell II'...)
We were lucky, we had the best music. Rock and Country. My son told me that one day. Need to listen to some Lynyrd Skinner. Freebird is a looong song. LOL used to have to flip the tape over in the middle, lmao. Yeah, I had the cassette. But I go back to 8 tracks and vinyl.
All of the Meatloaf songs you have reacted to so far are from the "Bat Out Of Hell" album,,, do yourself a huge favour and sit in a quiet comfy place and listen to the entire album from start to finish, no skips just play through. The album was written by Jim Steinmann as a concept/soundtrack for a stage musical. It was such a huge thing back in the day, and remains one of the best of its genre, to this day... btw, I might be just a smidge biased about this album and it's incredible creators 🥰 🙃🐨🇦🇺
The opening part on the album is so much better than this video version, which is ridiculously overacted. Absolute banger of a tune though, either way. Sync is completely out though, so not really watchable.
This gave me wolf man and vampire vibes at first. Jim Steinman, the composer of this and all of Meat Loaf's songs, is the man speaking at the beginning. You can see him playing piano in this and many of Meat Loaf's videos also.
Meatloaf made concept albums. Not just an album with a bunch of songs - they were albums whose songs added together made a full opera. He was mentally ill and his albums are so beyond anyone else! Such a talent! He did not get enough credit.
