It's a tragedy that neither are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They produced a top 10 Selling Album all time and aren't in. This album is pure poetry.
no vampire theme...its about a man crashing his bike and dying.... his organs exposed, the last thing he feels is his heart beating and then flying away...r.i.p...one of the best albums of all time..✌️
There most definitely IS a vampire theme! The whole album was conceived as a rock opera based on Peter Pan but with vampire bikers. That's why he has to leave before the sun comes up.
@@cjstato No, steinman wrote this song as the ultimate motorbike crash song.. no vampires....he never says he's leaving before the sun comes up,( at least know the lyrics) 'when the night is over, like a bat out of hell i' ll be gone' - meaning he'll be dead... 'when the day is done and the sun goes DOWN').....etc he'll be at the gates of heaven( because he's dead).... so vampires arent known for dying when crashing a bike or even less so, vampires dont go to heaven or have a beating heart ' the LAST thing i see , is my heart , still beating, ' then it leaves him like a bat out of hell... i.e he's now dead.... i mean it can mean whatever u want it to , to u, carry on...but its not about vampires....😅✌️
Absolutely this, pretty sure he's already crashed at start of song, the killer on the bloodshot street being the mangled bike, I also think the use of bloodshot rather than say soaked or stained may also suggest he's already crashed and the bloodshot is what he's seeing, I think it's maybe something he has to keep living out as and I never see the sudden curve till its way too late, not seen or saw, suggesting it's not the 1st time he didn't see it
@@stefb794 yeah i kinda like how u see it ✌️...i think maybe theres some poetic licence in the writing....as i see it...he's in love with a girl but they live in an undesirable neighbourhood- killer in the shadows , on the street with a blade-is describing that neighbourhood he needs to get away from but it means leaving the girl...and when he finally decides to leave crashes and dies....and the poetic licence and imagery comes in....but no vampirism...😊
Meatloaf was in the Spice Girls movie, he played their tour bus driver. There was a running line though the movie that the toilet didn't work. Finally, the manager ordered him to go fix the toilet. He jumped off the bus and said, "I love those girls, and I would do anything for them, but I won't do that."
meatloafs real name was Marvin Lee Aday but he legally changed it to Michael Lee Aday.. names don't matter with him though 'cause he'll always be meatloaf..
Thanks for brother Meat again. Easiest thing to do is just play this album all the way through. The motorcycle sounds are courtesy of genius Todd Rundren. It's all guitar work. You still need to do Dead Ringer for Love. The duet partner will blow your mind
The album BOOH, is a 24 hour period in the protagonist life. Bat out of hell means with extreme urgency without the fear of consequences. This song BOOH is the first song. Its night. It’s about escape. He’s getting out of his dead end town. But before he leaves he gotta see about a girl. The last song of the album is For Crying Out Loud (btw one of the best songs I’ve ever heard) is the next morning. He reaches his destination (the California coast) he’s broken from his journey and seeking redemption. He realizes that the ‘things’ that he was searching for were the things he left behind.
I feel as if a part of my youth died with the passing of this wonderful entertainer and genuine human being. Marvin Lee Aday (Michael) AKA Meatloaf your musical performances will live on! Thanks for the decades of memories.
Meat Loaf has appeared in over 100 movies and TV shows. He was an actor before a singer performing in plays and musicals. He was in a musical when Jim Steinman saw him and knew he had found the voice to sing his songs
Bat of Hell was one of my favorite albums of all times and this was my favorite song on the album...It just had it all....and the Drama of this song......wow.
I saw Meat live in the UK, long ago, can't remember when but sometime around late 70's early 80's. He saved Bat until the encore. He had sung the entire concert with a mic but for the encore he did it without a mic and you could barely notice the difference. Also random folk from his road crew and sound guys etc. kept appearing on stage playing guitar. It ended with 17 Guitarists and Meat all doing the climax of Bat as the encore..... EPIC!!
He played a stop on this tour at an outdoor venue right through the woods behind my house in late summer of '78. I remember the piano and guitar of this song in particular echoing up the whole valley.
"For Crying Out Loud "is a good one from the same era and the Bat Out of Hell album. "Objects in the rear view mirror"is a good one from his later stuff
The Motorcycle sounds on Bat Out of Hell - As you’ll no doubt have guessed, it’s not actually a motorbike at all but in fact producer/guitarist Todd Rundgren’s Fender Mustang! We spoke to Todd a few years back and asked him directly about it: “For a while I played Fender Mustangs. Indeed, that’s the guitar I used on Bat Out of Hell to get the motorcycle sounds and stuff. The reason why it worked well for me, even though it was very difficult to play on the higher frets - because it’s a student guitar, it’s a shorter scale - but what you could do with the whammy bar was unbelievable, you know? It was way further than any other guitar. You’d push all the way down and the strings are actually sagging, they’re drooping (laughs), you know? And then you’d get these ridiculously screamy harmonic notes when you pull it up.” Rundgren financed the production of this album when no one else would. He felt it was a Bruce Springsteen parody.
I had a hallmate in college who spent 2 years trying to get Meatloaf to play at our college, and in my Junior year in 93 he did. this was 2 yrs before his comeback and when he was sort of in "joke" status....but this guy put on the best stage show I may have ever seen - and I have been to Prince concerts, and a 14 minute version of Paradise by the Dashboard Lights. I also have to say - all of the best Killers songs - are ones that Meatloaf could have sung...
His best role was of course as Eddie in Rocky Horror Picture show. The definitely best film of all times and a treasure trove for reaction videos for each and every song. "Cards of sorrow, Cards of pain"...
Saw him in 1987, on the second song Edgar winters just walked out and started playing guitar. Meatloaf didn’t realize it until the song ended and he turned around! Apparently everyone was in on it, except meatloaf…
Another great stage performer to do is Vincent Furnier a.k.a Alice Cooper . Seen him 6 times over the years and he never fails to deliver a great stage show. Great songs like Department Of Youth , Feed My Frankenstein , Only Women Bleed and Poison are just a few of his tracks
Just loving your reactions! Steinman’s lyrics are ridiculous fun, and those tempo shifts just grab me. And ML… his vocals and delivery make it impossible to take my eyes away! They are simply incomparable. For some deliciously dystopian fun, try 1993 Orlando video of Life is a Lemon and I Want My Money Back.
Omg.... one of the first albums I ever bought....... I still know all of these songs by heart.... even in my 50's..... And I saw other comments about Meatloaf in 'The Rocky Horror Pictureshow'.... still know all of THOSE songs by heart :D..... damn what a time it was to be alive and young.... along with 'Tommy" the Who etc.....
Also Tina Turner 'Acid Queen'.... this is why I kind of feel sorry for the modern musicans/bands - they don't understand how to REALLY reach the modern population....... except on a superficial level....... hence the music doesn't last..... it just blows away with the next person coming in who is 'trendy'.....
I mean why else would people like me still remember Elvis songs.... Rolling Stones songs..... Beatles songs.... The Who, Eagles, Leonard Skynard.... etc... ? Their music is classic and everlasting. Still played in TV shows, Movies etc. today.....
It's because todays music is about making money.....not memories or resonating. Forget wanting to be rich from music.... instead decide that wealth is actually from decades of people remembering your music.
Meatloaf wrote all his own music. The recording company's whated him to sell his lyrics and music for someone else to sing it because they said he was to fat. He absolutely refused and said if I can't sing up your 😂.
It's not a vampire theme, guy... he rode a bike. He has a one night stand... But feels as if he stays he'll be damned... maybe he'll be damned if he leaves. But he's got to get out before dawn, or he won't have a choice. So he gets on his black Phantom bike, and rides off... but doesn't see the sudden curve in the dark. Then he's down at the bottom of a pit (ditch? quarry?) in the sunlight, bike burning from the crash... Body all torn up, bones broken, but still alive. And the last thing he sees is his heart, still beating, torn from his chest, "breaking out of my body and flying away like a bat out of hell." All the named songs are on that album, I think.
HE started in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. On stage and also the movie. He was also in a movie called Black Dog with Randy Travis and Patrick Swayze.
You want to see probably two greatest singers in there probably last performances? Check out Jack Black's movie/musical "Tenacious D and the pick of destiny'. Released in 2006, In the first song easily found, is the 1st song from the movie called Kickapoo. Meatloaf plays/sings as young JB's father, and Ronnie then preforms as a deity of Rock that the young JB prays to for guide to advice and direction. Ronnie James Dio passed in 2012 and Meatloaf fallowed him it 2022.
Basically this is a tale old as time.Youth makes you feel that urgency to break away from what your parents are, from where you live and what you think is going to happen if it doesn't happen right now. Several generations later we have Fast Car and it is a tale of desperation to move away from what your life is and you have to do it now while the getting out is good. Back when Bat Out Of Hell released there was all these vampire movies coming out and the kids of that generation were hooked on that kind of imagery, so it made the album very attractive ,especially when Meat was all over the TV doing guest appearances and videos that promoted that sort of imagery too. It is one of my favorite albums, and just because I can't sing didn't mean I wasn't going to be blasting my radio and singing out those lyrics night and day.
Vampire theme: Tanz der Vampire (Dance of the Vampires) - A musical remake of the Roman Polanski film The Fearless Vampire Killers - with music composed by Jim Steinman*, orchestrated by Steve Margoshes, and Michael Kunze wrote the original German book and lyrics. It included reworkings of the following songs Total Eclipse of the Heart (Bonnie Tyler) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lcOxhH8N3Bo.html Seize the Night (Seize the Night (Meatloaf) *** ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CXiDBBNWHXE.html Original Sin (Taylor Dane) *** ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CXpWfd1BNkQ.html And since you've delved into Celine Dion - It's All Coming Back to Me **** ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Oe9VB8t3m2w.html You may notice certain similariies in the videos (motorcycles, women in white dresse s/robes, mirrors..) - If it's a Steinman song they almost have no choice but to do it that way. * Writer/composer of everything you've heard form Meatloaf ** Composed for the proposed Tim Burton musical Batman (unfortunately never came to light) *** Lyrics slightly reworked from the original for The Shadow movie (pre-Batman pulp character) **** This is the one I heard in an elevator "WTF! That's Celine Dion and I'd swear it's a Jim Steinman song."
