That is why it was produced in a traditional costume, staging, etc. Sohyang does ALL of her song arrangements including Stage, Chorus, and Band/Orchestra. She gets called the "Korean Mariah Carey" because they're both such incredible vocalists, but stylistically, they're quite different. I've seen some voice teachers/vocal coaches and reactors say she reminds them of Celine Dion, who is also stylistically different from both Mariah and Sohyang. In those cases, I think they were referring to the clarity and purity of her voice being reminiscent of Celine Dion's, which is very true. They are all unique, all the Whitney Houston level vocalists, of which Sohyang is one, but she's my favourite because of the emotional impact she delivers time and time again, which is something I've never experienced from anyone else. She is so technically amazing and her voice and breath control is second to none. This is a Korean folk song that she did the arrangement for. I always get teary eyed when she goes from the belt to those amazingly soft quiet final notes. She is without one of the best singers in the world..

Actually Mariah is the American Sohyang.

We all wonder if So Hyang is human or from another planet. Current odds are that she's from another planet or perhaps an angel come down from Heaven. We have never heard anyone sing like her, or be able to hold an audience in the palm of her hand until she lets them go. She does all the musical arrangements herself, teaches vocal technique at a South Korean university and speaks four languages. Korean, English, French and Vietnamese. Let me catch my breath. OK. She is a cancer survivor from uterine cancer at the age of 20, just after getting married, and states very plainly that God saved her life due to the prayers of her church. But this left her without the ability to have children so she decided to dedicate her life to being a Contemporary Christian Gospel singer and has refused recording contracts from the biggest corporations in the world. She only wants to sing for charities, churches and while doing missionary work. David Foster, Josh Groban, Michael Bolton and others have all travelled to Asia to work with her. She contracted hepatitis B from a blood transfusion during her cancer surgery and it clings to her to this day. Queen So Hyang, the angel. Even if she's dubbed as a Korean Mariah Carey by some media, no she is not. Mariah is a legend(in fact, I love her so much) and So Hyang stated that she respects Mariah, but she's just So Hyang herself. She is not someone's second. She is too great to be a posterity of anyone. Like you said similarly, she is the best vocalist that Korea has ever produced. And she is probably the best vocalist on the planet right now.

Arirang has been oral for hundreds of years and is a beautiful folk song listed in UNESCO. Arirang has a little different melody and lyrics depending on the area, and there are various versions. Sometimes it is a labor song when you are working hard, and when the country is invaded or in crisis, it is a song that brings together your heart. For all Sohyang songs in all competitions, Sohyang always re-interprete all the songs. In other words, the audience only heard of these versions for the first time when she first performed (in fact, most competitors do that in Korea, and not just Sohyang). My all time favourite is Dear Love from King of Mask Singer. Do remember not to react from RU-vid as the official channel has only half the songs. React from vimeo. Arirang is like an unofficial Korean anthem and there are a number of different versions out there. Sohyang put her own spin on this so although it's familiar to everyone it's uniquely hers. BTS have done a version of Arirang too. Check out Everyone by Sohyang - amazing.
