This is a song about every guy that went to a club and didn't feel like he was good enough. Just standing on the side, looking and wondering, and then going home alone. But meanwhile, a girl there was actually waiting to be asked. The eternal tragedy of the human dance.
@oskarobit
@oskarobit 2 года назад
You didn't understand the lyrics, but it's normal with that sound pressure at the club... Tom write about a girl he liked at college with a pinch of teenage angst and that suddenly attended a Radiohead performance. Then Jonny, who was quite bored with this one, try to smash the song with the guitar distortion at full. This sound turned to be an identity trait of Creep. Trivial fact: There are some similarities between Creep and The Air That I Breathe by The Hollies. Radiohead must include them as authors in the credits.
@jessereyna6662
@jessereyna6662 2 года назад
@@oskarobit Thom Yorke actually admitted to having Based the song of the air I breath because of a law suit and the courts agreed. So they had to give the credit and Royalties. Their is several stories about the song. One is the university girl story. Another is Yorke himself saying is was a girl he kept seeing at a bar and finally getting drunk enough to approach her but only creeping her out. The other if complete rubbish, which is about a girl that kept showing up at their shows before they got famous. Either way this song can be interpreted in many different ways. So yes it can be seen as going into a bar and just not feeling good enough.

As a 90s teen, songs like this and "Self Esteem" by The Offspring were really relateable at times. It's definitely about self-perception, feeling not good enough; not a "creeper" in that sense. Great breakdown, by the end you both felt the singer's pain in his words. The live version amplifies that quite a bit.

As a youth, I remember feeling alienated from most everyone, and the feeling was nearly always me and them, and rarely us. I was living in what Martin Buber called an I-It orientation, merely experiencing the world and people as separate. Feeling largely like a creep. But one day a lovely lady touched me, at a record store, and I woke from my dream of separation, some call Hell. I had transcended the I-It world of experience, and entered the I-You world of relation. Unity. Love. Creep no more. Heaven. Beyond time and space and boundaries.

Seriously, one of the best rock songs EVER recorded. The progression of it reeks of lonely desperation/frustration whilst the lyrical AND musical melody are melancholy and evocative for most human beings. It's one of THOSE songs. If that makes any sense. Hall of fame stuff right here.

I always interpreted this as a guy who felt unworthy to ever be able to have a girl he viewed as being perfect but unobtainable. He called himself creep and weirdo because his life was beneath someone like her. The lead guitar crunching those two notes before the chorus is my favorite part of the song.

Such an iconic song by the flawless Radiohead!👏This song is on my list of all time top five songs & has never left it for over 25 years. Not only is the music beautiful, but those lyrics, combined with Thom Yorke's voice - *MASTERPIECE!* Hence the reason it gets covered so much, but no-one can achieve the perfection of Radiohead's original - Thom wrote it & you can FEEL his raw emotion! PLEASE PLEASE react to Street Spirit (fade away) - it is so memorising....a haunting song 💗 Also, 'Paranoid Android', 'Karma Police', 'No Surprises', 'My Iron Lung' - 30 years of beautiful songs. Radiohead almost need their own 'genre' - such an eclectic band.

The lead singer Thom Yorke used to spy on a girl he liked on campus during his university days. During that time he suffered with a negative image of himself and a lack of self-confidence. He didn't know what to do and why he was acting this way and he didn't have the courage to approach her. He wrote the song during this period as he felt like a creep and says that it's about being in love with someone, but not feeling good enough. He describes feeling as, "There's the beautiful people and then there's the rest of us."

I don't think he had any criminal intentions. He may have been trying to work up the nerve to approach her as he stated he had lacked confidence and didn't know what to do and why he would act this way. He said he "felt" like a creep.
@ffreshfields5211
@ffreshfields5211 2 года назад
@@annb9422 if you actually spy on another human, you are not just feeling like a creep, you are acting it out and being one and you have to stop and get help because you are doing something without consent which is harassment and may end up seriously hurting someone by taking it another step further. Few stalkers, harassers, etc, think of themselves as criminals while they commit those crimes...
@annb9422
@annb9422 2 года назад

@ffreshfields5211 2 года назад
@@annb9422 @Ann B If you read what i said, i am not saying he had criminal intent but that spying is not okay and can potentially lead to criminal offences and mental health problems increasing if continued. That's dangerous to others and oneself and potentially what made him stop, the fear of obsession spinning out of control into even poorer judgment and actions. There is no need to make excuses for something that he himself is not making excuses for either and publically owns up to. He says correctly "i don't know why i did that". Because there is no moral or just reason for it. Only emotional ones that do not make the actions okay or healthy.

The song is about him feeling like a creep because the girl he admires is out of his league in his opinion. So he feels like he doesn’t belong here. He feels like he’s a weirdo. I struggled with my personal self and mental disease for a very long time. Rejected a lot. Mostly because i didn't fit into the standards people have. My brain would be a complete jumble and I would try to say the right things but it always ended up coming out wrong. This song always felt like that and not a stranger creeping although music is subjective and as BJ said, can be interpreted many ways. I sometimes don't ever feel like I belong in this life, like I was a mistake born to listen but never to be heard. It took alot of reflecting to get through those feelings and more. It takes alot to admit to yourself what is real and what is not and accepting yourself so if you don't accept yourself now, you can change and eventually reach a point where you do accept yourself. Even that is an interpretation that takes a life time to master

All of us who weren't in the popular group back in our youth but had a thing for someone who was can relate to this song. When I was in school "creep" wasn't necessarily a stalker or anything like that. It basically meant the same as weirdo, nerd, geek, freak, dweeb, etc., and was mostly (but not always) used by popular girls to describe any guy not in the popular in group.

The song, lyrics, musical arrangement EVOKES a sense of our youthful experience where there had been someone who is a subject of our love whom may have rejected us, or we were too timid to approach. There is alot of inflection within the lyrics. He realises or was told he was a "creep, a weirdo", asking himself what he is doing "here". So he do realises what he is doing or realises what "effect" his presence is having on the other person - seeing her as "special" and wishing that he was just as "special" to her, i.e. having that "perfect body, perfect soul". He realises all this, and that is reflected in the lyrics itself. The vocal has that moanful, sorrowful, angsty, longing quality to it. Not quite "hating" the himself, or her. But posses sufficient self-awareness to and self-reflection that he questions himself "what am I doing here?" and eventually ending it with "I don't belong here. I don't belong here". A wonderful song, fantastic lyrics, perfectly executed to capture all that "feels" that is very representative of the Gen-X era and the people who were moved by it.

This is what the actual singer of the song quote about what the song is about "Yorke says this is about being in love with someone, but not feeling good enough. He describes the feeling as, "There's the beautiful people and then there's the rest of us."

Truth is there was a lady in Exeter England who he fell for but didn't try for because he never thought he was good enough for... insecure. He almost died when she turned up in the front row of his concert...true story

Much if rock music is about this very topic but this is an exceptionally “naked” viewpoint…baring his soul. A similarly brilliant song on this same line is How Soon Is Now by the Smiths.

Totally missed the whole point of the song. It's about being an outcast, feeling alienated and insecure around girls. He wrote it when he was a young lad growing up.

It's about the doubting of yourself what's exeptable and fitting in . But singing the song the way he does it's actually him that is special but he can't see it through society's eye . Very deep very special 🎶🔥

Now that you have heard the original, please listen to Haley Rhinehart's PMJ versions. They are both amazing, but very different. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m3lF2qEA2cw.html

I'm a really big fan of Brian Justin Crumb's version that he did of this on one of those talent shows, forgot which one. Combined with his story it was just powerful. His whole thing was wanting to sing to make people feel something.

unrelated recommendation ( my apologies ) I know you have enjoyed The Eagles . Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh in 1970 had a hit with his band The James Gang titled FUNK #49 . In Jan 2022 at age 74 Joe Walsh assembled some of his buddy musicians to play play FUNK #49 . It is a stellar performance . I know you appreciate great musicians - This could be the best tune you have so far heard in 2022 ? PLEASE watch this exact RU-vid : Walsh, Ringo & Co - Funk #49
