Both songs are from the play and movie "HAIR" some of the 60's best, Peace✌️ and Love ❤️ we were gonna change the world 🌎 Woodstock, Hippies, and Love-In's, a real beautiful feeling 💙 The 5th Dimension can bring out that feeling, 1970 my 1st trip to New York City we tried to see "HAIR" but we were to young, you had to be 18 because of content and they all got naked on Stage 👀 😢 oh! well, saw the movie and later the play 😅 Peace ✌️ and Love ❤️ your 70 year old forever hippie Gary😊 Let the Sun Shine In 😂
We put this play on at my high school in 1971. We were not allowed to take our clothes off at the end of the play. It was a lot of fun rehearsing these and the other songs at my home. This 70-year-old hippy is still lost in the fabulous music we had throughout our youth. You and I were born at the birth of Rock and Roll so if you are like me, the music of the following 30 years are in your bones, ingrained in your soul. The joy the music brings me, even when I am not dancing, I am dancing in my head.
@@tchampagne1494pretty progressive that they let you do it at all! It's not just about peace and love, it's drugs, war, sexual revolution, etc. It would be a hard sell in a lot of the country now, almost 60 years later. Certainly not in Texas!
Born in 1960, so many peace and love songs. Always wanting and fantasizing of a life and world like this. It's easier for everyone to live in harmony and peace than to not. Create peace. Peace out.
1967 was the Summer of Love. By 1969 songs like this were standard. Great reaction to a great song. It was an incredible time that I wish would come back.
Careful what you wish for. Musically, and for those fortunate enough not to be touched by the realities of those times, it was a magical and hopeful time. I would consider this track the virtual theme song for those times and those hopes. For others in America though, those times were brutal and quite often deadly. My "woke" memories start in 63 with the 16th Street bombing and the Kennedy assassination. Throughout the 60's the authorities declared open season on protesters with anything from beatings and firehoses to shootings and lynchings.
*ICONIC song because THIS captured THE MOMENT! They were fabulous and the late '60s were full of tension but also a lot of hope. Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. Have incredible voices still!*
This was in the movie Hair...awesome movie based on Vietnam draft ditchers basically and meet a guy who is going to war...it's actually a musical too...soundtrack has lots of awesome songs from that time period...
The 5th Dimension had so many great hits in the 60's-70's. "Go Where You Wanna Go", "Up, Up & Away", "Stoned Soul Picnic", "Sweet Blindness", "Wedding Bell Blues", "California Soul", "Workin' On A Groovy Thing", "One Less Bell To Answer", "Never My Love", "(Last Night) I Didn't Get To Sleep at All", "If I Could Reach You", "Love's Lines, Angles & Rhymes", "Living Together, Growing Together" etc.
You brought tears to my eyes, I'm so happy you love this!! This song is from the Broadway show, "Hair." My favorite by them is Stoned Soul Picnic, bit all the recommendations are great! You can't go wrong with the Fifth Dimension!
As a 5 year old I would play this song over and over on my mom’s stereo. Thank goodness my Mom encouraged my love for music and forgave me for leaving scratches on her LP’s!
We are now in "The Age of Aquarius ", at the very beginning and the next 30 years we should have a lot of growth in that direction. Hard to believe, I know but I'm 70 and have been waiting a long time. I still have hope we can prove we're worth it!😎😎😎😎
Mom Got the album soundtrack Musical Hair when I was a kid. The volume was turned up and the whole family knew every word. We danced and sang to this through the good and bad times of that period in time. Thanks for your reaction. It was right on! This music just hits your soul. I also got to see the 5th Dimension perform in concert in the 80s. They did all the favorites and the crowd knew every song. Peace ✌
Hey Shon, I was 10 years old when this song was released in 1969. I loved this song, but I loved the group and had me a big crush on the beautiful Marilyn McCoo, the tall lead singer, since I was 8 years old.
Great reaction! You are absolutely right in that they told Billy Davis Jr. to just go out and do his thing at the end of the song. The 5th Dimension had many hits and the ones where Marilyn McCoo took lead are simply spectacular because she has one of the greatest voices ever. She and Billy are a married couple who have kept performing this day. I promise your day will also be made if you listen to their chart-topping duet, You Don’t Have To Be A Star.
simply a masterpiece! I'm a hippie inside and this is like an anthem to me. When I first listened to it in the 90s when I was discovering music and the world I couldn't believe what I was hearing, they are all great and the harmonies are insane.
It's been so long since I've heard this song, and listening to this now is giving me literal chills, especially as we are now actually IN the Age of Aquarius, and I absolutely believe we are moving into the New Earth, despite how chaotic things seem. It's the chaos of change, and nothing can stop it. What a great reaction. Thank you for reminding me of this super high-vibrational song! I need to start listening to this regularly! Open up your heart and let the Sun shine in! 🌍🌈🌛🌞🌠☮♒❤
Everyone who reacts to this, just absolutely love ❤️ it. How can you not?!!! I so remember this playing on the radio as a very young child. It made a difference in my being then and even now when i hear it.
I was a teenager when the 5th Dimension were popular. It was a great time to be a teen. Music was awesome back then. Even though the times were tough with the unrest.
I was born in the age of Aquarius, 55 years...........young...lol...!! Growing up during that time, and every time I heard this beautiful song. It always touched my heart!!! My eyes always filled up with joyful tears!! Such a beautiful song!!
The way you describe the soulful way he sings against the chorus is so right. So beautiful. Yes, like a gospel preached. Sometimes Phil Collins taps into that vibe and why he was so popular. Love how happy you are with this positive music. Peace Out!
Thank you for listening to this song. A song I heard so many times when I was young. So happy you enjoyed tis and truly appreciated the energy it always brings
I'm so happy you played/reacted to this song. I was a about six years old when this song released, and I always loved this 5th Dimension song, and other. Thank you Shon!
It is so refreshing to see, and know that young people appreciate, and enjoy the music from yester- years.... Thank you for your reactions..... Cheerio from Down Under 🌺
Yes this was beautiful!!..and so was your reaction!🤗 I was in 8th grade when this song came out in the late ‘60s, and am still lovin’ it today. Thanks for the memory.❤️
😃 Yup, I got brought up in this era. Man, it's been ages since I've heard these songs. You just know how the black folk be like in those days in church, gospel singing. Preaching while singing. Thank you Shon.
"Hair" was an absolute sensation when it premiered in the late 60s. This song mash-up brackets the whole play -- first, and last song combined. Takes me right back to my early teenage years. 🙂 Great reaction, too!
Decades ago I went to visit my US relatives in San Francisco. I didn't know that they all were hippies. It was like on another planet. Now I'm an old man and since April weed is legal in Germany, ha ha. Maybe I shoukd smoke and hear this kind of music. Greetings from Germany!
We took my German friends to the Haight-Ashbury in the 60’s. They thought they were in the American version of Oberammergau and the Passion Plays! “ Ach kuck mal an den heiligen Jesus und Maria!” 😂
Have fun with these beautiful people with live performances as much as possible to experience that 60's-70's vibe. "Stoned Soul Picnic" and "Working On A Groovy Thing" are great time pieces.
I was 11 years old when this hit. Momma would always crank it up on the old Philco Harmonic console entertainment center and rock it out!! Good times!! She gone now…but I got memories!! 😎
When I saw you reacted to this, I was excited. A match made in heaven! When I was nine, this was my favorite song. I would sing it around the house. You have great taste, bro. Seeing you enjoy this, lifted my spirits and energy. By the Fifth Dimension also try “Wedding Bell Blues“ and for high energy,, “Puppet Man”.
These two songs came from a revolutionary Broadway musical called "Hair." A couple other groups recorded other songs from the musical that became hits ("Hair" by the Cowsills, and "Easy to Be Hard" by Three Dog Night), but none was as big a hit as this one. I did hear an interview with one of the band members where, for "Let the Sunshine in," they told Billy Davis, Jr "Take us to church." The 5th Dimension had many hits: "Up, Up and Away" (the first pop 45 rpm record I ever bought), "Wedding Bell Blues," "Stone Soul Picnic," "one Less Bell to Answer" are some to choose from.
This song was in the Broadway play Hair. It came to the Aquarius theatre in the late 60’s. In the middle of it this parachute came down on all the actors on the stage and when they lifted it they were all naked. Shocker. Then the police came up the aisle saying this a raid which terrified me. But it was just part of the production. But yes this song matched the most fun time in my life. Thanks for the memories.
They were awesome and Marilyn and Billy went on to have their own Prime Time TV variety show. I watched it every week. I was in elementary school at the time.
The five original members were Lamonte McLemore, Marilyn McCoo, Florence LaRue, Ronald Townson, and Billy Davis, Jr. In 1975, Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr. left the group to form their own collective & individual projects. (They even had their own television show!) As others have posted, they're still married today, and I believe still perform!
Hey shirtless wonder Shon! Your fro is looking mighty mighty along with that thousand megawatt smile😁 I can easily see you up on that stage giving us some powerful Aquarian vibes.❤ Fifth Dimension brought us lots of hits, including ballads like One Less Bell to Answer. and Last Night I Didn't Get to Sleep at All.
