Trust me, “Ventura Highway,” is the one to do. Also, “Tin Man,” “Magic,” “Amber Cascades “…l love this group. I’ve seen them multiple times live. I also used to perform their songs occasionally in bars and cafés and such. Got ‘em imbedded into my whole being!
BJ, you nailed it - this song is absolutely a product of the 70s, and literally sounds like that decade. As someone who was a young kid in the 70s (I turned two in 1970 - dang I'm old), hearing this transports me instantly back to childhood, travelling in the back seat of the family car with this playing on the radio. Another classic, and another great reaction - peace and love!
OLD? That’s not OLD! Driving yourself to the opening of “Saturday Night Fever” is old. Watching the Moon landing in Jr HS is old - physically! My humor says that I’m still a 16 yr old boy. 😂🤣
The first time I saw America in concert it was the song "Ventura Highway" that got the crowd completely on it's feet. The boys in this band know how to work a crowd into a frenzy, even with acoustic songs, with a little electricity thrown in.
When It Comes To Absolutely Beautiful Music,, You Can Always Count On "America",, "Firefall",, "Bread" & "Seals & Crofts"...Truth!!...R.I.P. Dan Peek 🙏 ❤
Wife here..Love Love Love this song!!.." I ain't ready for the alter but I do agree there's times.., that a woman sure can be a friend of mine"...Fear of true commintment..Asia., Love you breaking down the correspondent part.."One of those smooth talking songs"..Love it Asia..!!I was a late 70's baby...Always sounded Nostalgic to me as well..Thank you as Always..Yes BJ..70's had alot of cool groovy music..Well said!!
They had a really cool song they wrote called "Sandman" that was entirely made up of overheard conversations at an Air Force base passenger terminal. The song gets overlooked by reactors but is well worth a listen.
There's a feeling of "togetherness" inherent in America's songs because of the musical and vocal harmonies they are so great at producing in their songs. Love them!!
America is one of the most iconic 70's bands in my opinion, they completely captured the essence of the decade in their music. You have got to listen to their song Ventura Highway next time you check them out, one of the best songs of the 70's.
I grew up listening to, America, and saw them live! You guys will love their beautiful ballad, *"Daisy Jane".* Another beautiful ballad from, America, is their cover of, *"Muskrat Love".*
Asia, you crack me up. You caught on to something that I've completely missed all these decades. 😂😂 You 2 are great and fun to watch. Be careful bc working together as a couple cant be easy at times, as I'm sure you know. Just want y'all to remain happy. God bless ✌🏼
I remember when this song came out listening to the To 40 every Saturday as it climbed up the charts. I remember being so happy when it hit #1. I was so happy. Still love it.
America wrote some landmark songs. This is one of those classics. I think you reacted to Horse with no name. If not - check it out. Love your reactions!
Loved seeing this one; I've requested in in a livestream before. I was 11 when this came out in 1975 and it is high on my Top 10 Favorite 70's songs. I've just always loved it, the beat, and then there is the nostalgia of my wonderful, fun, care-free childhood! 🥰
Hi Asia and BJ, Thank you for listening to America which is a Band formed in England, My Friend Frank Lane had me write the Chords out for this tune, We used to play Acoustic Guitars around a Camp fire and Jam "Eagles, Neil Young, Paul Simon, Jim Croce, Crosby-Stills-Nash-Young & America." I have their Greatest Hits Song Book "You can do Magic, Sandman, I need you, Tin man, Horse with no name, Muskrat love, Ventura highway & Lonely people." Janet Jackson sampled "Ventura Highway" when she wrote "Someone to call my Lover." Thank you guys, I love this Bands Music! "You can do Magic; You can have anything that you desire, Magic, and you know you're the one who can put out the Fire. You know darn well when you cast your spell - You will get your way, When you Hypnotize with Your eyes a Heart of Stone can turn to Clay." :)
This song made this 63 year old man weep. I had a sister golden hair back in tje 70s as a teen that i never pursued but was madly in love with. Finally 44 years later we reconnect and confess how much we have always loved one another. This was my song for her memory. I was finally able to play this for her and we both wept together knowing we should gave been together since those 70s teen years. Sad and joyful at the same time. The 70s had the mist meaningful music ever. Id go back with her in a minute and this time do it right. Im so glad i grew up then.
This is one of my go to songs in my acoustic sets..I just did my first gig of the year (outdoors),with my drummer on a cajon, and myself on acoustic guitar and vocals...pretty cool to see the old folk singing along and boppin around...I'm 52 myself and got injured music is all I can do now a days...thank the Lord I at least have that...over your reactions..cheers
Continuing their mellow journey through the California landscape of breezy visions and and warm harmonies. Keep going. You will find these songs along the trail. THE SANDMAN, VENTURA HIGHWAY, & MAGIC. Just put the top down, lay your head back and enjoy the drive.
lol - As a soppy teen back in the 70s I wrote the words from Sister golden hair in letter / poem form to a girl I liked VERY much. She had a big, bright smile, and the golden hair mentioned in the song. Hope you are well and happy, where ever you are Katie.
Another great band I grew up with. Love their folk rock sound. They had so many great hits in the 70's-80's such as "A Horse With No Name", "I Need You", "Ventura Highway", “Muskrat Love”, "Tin Man", "Lonely People", "Sister Golden Hair", "Daisy Jane", "You Can Do Magic", "The Border" etc.
The band members are army brats who formed this band while overseas living with their military families. They have some great songs. I was 17 in HS listening to them and saw them once in concert.
You tell them Asia! If you want to keep in touch, you make the effort. I feel like I've always understood every lyric except the word "surprise" right after Sister Golden hair.
70’s all day…. This song to be is those awkward first junior high dance songs. You know the ones… Everyone has been through that…. I’m old enough for this to be all that…. Haven’t heard it in many years. Thank you 🙏 for taking me straight back to that time…. ✌️😎
This song was a HUGE hit for the band. Gerry Beckley (blond guy) wrote and sings it. He was quoted as saying there "There was no actual Sister Gold Hair." I have to call BS, he just don't want to talk about it. Many men, if not most have a "Sister Gold Hair"; mine was an Irish girl with black hair. I knew her when this song came out in 1975; i lost her: too little too late. I still have her yearbook picture she sent me.
Fun reaction. This came out when I was in high school and I was so into hard rock that I thought it was kind of soft rock but still I always liked it. Listening to it now, I really love it. They really get to jamming there at the end. And it's just so smooth and melodic. And I love how Asia feels compelled to always give that reminder -you best be paying attention and CORRESPOND, laugh. Lonely People is also a fantastic song by them.
I've always LOVED THIS SONG. For me, it's about a guy that's not quite ready to settle down. Beautiful lead vocal, smooth harmonies, and great strummin' guitar.
David , right about this being absolutely 70s, and yes I can remember this on the radio at 2,3 year's old. And played through out AM radio, Another great one Daisy Jane by America. Thanks 👍♥️ Asia and BJ.
I remember when teh song first came out,I thought that it was brilliant. I always liked trying to decipher a song. This song,"SISTER GOLDEN HAIR" was no exception, especially when the lyrics are brilliant. For me,its about a man who wasn't the best of a lover,to nay woman in hsi life. He wasn't too keen on getting married, because of his unsettled, carefree lifestyle, but he is definitely in love with her, because she is always on his mind.He hopes that she can meet him in the middle. He wants her to stay loyal,as he goes about doing his own thing.
You might also enjoy the duo Seals & Crofts. If you want to check them out, you might try ‘Summer Breeze’, ‘The King of Nothing’ or ‘We May Never Pass This Way Again’.
I grew up in the 70's loving these guys! They have so many great songs! I finally heard them in the late 90's . They opened for the Beach Boys and blew them away! America is one of those bands that sound better live! Tin Man is a must to listen to. BJ was right on the money. This is 70's, golden years music. Back then it was just a song about love, but in today's world it is interpreted how Asia described it. Great reaction! You both really know how to break a song 's meaning down!
This sound came out of the Laurel Canyon scene of the 60s, as it moved down further down into the valley by the 70s and featured groups like the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt and Loggins and Messina, the latter of which came out of the Buffalo Springfield (as did Stills and Young of CSNY), and Jackson Browne and Carole King. However, America actually got their start in London, England. But by 73 they were in LA and signing with Geffen/Roberts, the people behind Young and Joni Mitchell. It’s all connected!
Gerry beckley sings this song Dewey bunnell sang a horse with no name .. both fantastic song writers along with the late Dan peek... “lonely people” is Dan’s song i
Good tune, but Ventura Highway is the most awesome tune. Great guitar play and harmonies. My dad's favourite song. Was gonna take him to the 50th anniversary gig in the UK in 2020 but covid ruined it. Only date in the UK they were doing. Bummer.
1981 right in front of the Queen Mary Beach boy's headlind but before them were Poco. Rick Springfield. Three dog night. And also there was America..... ✌️
Here is just a bit of Trivia the album art for the album "History: America's Greatest Hits" was created by Phil Hartman. Phil went on to star on SNL from 1986-1994 and did the voices of Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure on the TV show "The Simpsons". He was shot to death by his wife Brynn on May 28, 1998.
I was a Jr. in high school when this song came out…the 70’s was a great decade for music; Stones, Zeppelin, Eagles, Steve Miller, Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan…to name a few and I haven’t even mentioned the great R & B artists of that decade like Stevie Wonder, Al Green, etc…I love the music of the 70’s. 😊👍🏼👍🏼
