I laughed when he said it was probably a popular song, yeah a #1 hit song on their Saturday Night Fever album which at the time was the biggest selling album ever.

The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988. The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born. All 4 brothers are just natural musical talents. All of them dropped out of high school in their early teens and none of them could read or write music. All their compositions were created completely organically. Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1966. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin' (and was also actually the first album on which their logo was introduced). From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7niXSh7vWRI.html Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WH_j90fCIk4.html, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vfHUS5Mf00Q.html. From their Still Waters album, Smoke and MIrrors: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MT9vRHSWNbk.html. From the 1960's I've gotta get a message to you ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CA4CInDnTk8.html. And from the 1990's the simple song Blue Island live in an accoustic version: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-162GlAEpfrY.html.

These guys have over a thousand songs and never had a bad song ever. Barry is doing the lead here but all 3 take turns at times. They all have amazing voices and vocal range. They were writing and performing for over 5 decades and changed their style many times. Disco was just one phase but certainly not their first. Have a listen to Fanny be tender, Mr Natural or Massachusetts for a different vibe.

The brothers didn't consider their music in the '75-'79 era to be disco but R&B. There are a few interviews from 1978 and 1979 here on RU-vid where especially Robin takes issue with the music from Saturday Night Fever etc. being referred to as 'disco'. In an interview with Dutch television on their then new album "Spirits Having Flown" from '79 Robin said "We don't write disco music".
@laurelcarter1573
@laurelcarter1573 Год назад
@@magnuslundin5784 that's true. They were just writing an album. It was just unfortunate that people decided that sound was disco and built the scene around them. It was unintentional but created a huge problem with their career.

@magnuslundin5784
@magnuslundin5784 Год назад
@@chrislindsley5944 It was lumped in together with disco and got stuck in the public consciousness as disco. "You Should Be Dancing" is unarguably a disco (or dance) song, but for example "Stayin' Alive" (and most other of their songs of that part of their career) had more rock elements than disco such as more drums and rhythm guitar.

As I remember it, the group was having less popularity, & Barry, the oldest brother & lead singer, decided to record using his falsetto voice, & that then became a whole new ball game, & the Bee Gees took off again, & never looked back. Actually The Bee Gees did very little disco. The only connection with disco was their music for the movie Saturday Night Fever. This song is R&B as a lot of their songs, though they did different genres. They had 9 #1’s and this one stayed in the top ten for 17 weeks in 1977. Please react to LOVE YOU INSIDE OUT, this is an R&B, funk. Thanks for that great reaction. ❤❤❤

True, although this was from Saturday Night Fever (it's the last song in the movie, but it was the first song from the album to be released). The group was much more than disco, they were an established group in the middle 60's, had hit records in the late 60's and early 70's, including several number one hits and performed on the Ed Sullivan show in 1968.
@maryblum8365

For being new to the Bee Gees you were the quickest to realize they are actually an R&B group. Black music was such an influence on them and their writing. You need to listen to Fanny be Tender with my love, To love somebody that was written for Otis Redding who died in a plane crash before he could record it so they did. they have written every song they have ever sung. They have covered a few for tributes and the disaterous St. Peppers Lonley hearts band movie which we all forget about. lol Quincy Jones (Thriller) said Fanny was the best R&B song ever written. Just for alittle info not one brother can read or write music. They were laughed at and ignored for so long because of Saturday Night Fever and the disco label but this band was a group that was able to reinvent themselves when the time called for it. Welcome to the rabbit hole. You should be dancing, Jive talking and MUST do the Friday night special where they sang Nights on Broadway.

This song was #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100-- second of nine #1's in the 1970's. Safe to say they ruled the 70's. Barry had 6 in a row as singer-songwriter-producer-- a record. Guiness Book of World Records has Barry Gibb as second in the world only to Paul McCartney in songwriting. The Bee Gees wrote their own hits (1000-plus) for themselves to release as singles or for other top tier artists: Barbra Streisand "Woman in Love" and "Guilty," Kenny Rogers-Dolly Parton "Islands in the Stream," Diana Ross "Chain Reaction," Dionne Warwick" Heartbreaker," and Frankie Valli "Grease (Is the Word). " Also "Emotion" by Samantha Sang, covered by Destiny's Child, "If I Can't Have You" and "Love Me Please" by Yvonne Elliman. There are countless covers of their songs-- mind-boggling. Check out their first-fame period, pop-rock and psychedelic-country, full of hit songs from 1967 when they joined the British Invasion (later half) through 1969, when the band broke up for 18 months. They re-united in late 1970, less ego, as adults and better than ever, never to break up again.

The 'Midnight Special' show live version is the best, because you can see who sings what, and see Maurice playing one of his best bass parts! And 'Alone' is another super high, perfect harmony (of course) song, The video that shows clips of them in studio, meeting people, and goofing around when they were young is the best version.

The Great Barry Gibb. Singer PJ Morton remade this song and also won a Grammy for his rendition. In the old school world - BeeGee's are R&B. They're what we call Black Famous..😂 I hate I even typed it but it's true.

They are walking in circles just like we skated to them at the skating rink back then. Love the reaction y'all.

Since this only your 2nd video, their 1st #1 hit was 1967. Massachusetts. Robin sang lead on that song. Robin sang the lead on many of their early songs but management went with looks. Barry could sell it with his looks. And his voice. But Robin's voice is so unique and amazing. Listen to I started a joke. Also I gotta get a message to you. You'd be surprised how many songs they share lead on. They recorded hit up through 2001. If you want to hear Maurice sing, Man in the Middle and Closer than Close

Side note…this song is at the end of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER when John Travolta is riding the train home after his buddies were goofing around on the Brooklyn bridge and one of them (the one they made fun of) slipped and plummeted to his death. This movie is a must see!

And now sports fans, check out some early Bee Gees for a completely different sound. These brothers (and their younger brother) were blessed with the TALENT gene.

For fun check out the number of songs Barry,Robin and Maurice Gibb wrote for other A List Artists. You would be shocked! Barry Gibb once said there was a time when they had 5 songs in the top 10 and 3 in the Top 5!

Definitely the Bee Gees were the it group in the 70's. They have a younger brother that had many hits. Andy Gibb sang with his brothers sometimes. Two of his songs are: Shadow dancing and I just want to be your everything. 😊
