This was my great-grandfathers favorite song. My mom almost cried when she found out I liked Don Williams and knew the words to this song. She was her Papaw’s girl.

Don was one of a kind. All his songs his voice is just so calm and laid back and wonderful. He never felt the need to shout to get his point across, he just sang it and did it well.

First time hearing Don Williams perform this song and it is performed very well. I was introduced to Amanda thru Chris Stapleton's cover which is so, so, so good! Morgane Stapleton does the background vocals from stage-front and just kills it. Don't know how to improve on that cover. I need to check out some more Don Williams though. I am a fan of old country, especially Merle Haggard. I see DW passed in 2017, RIP. Thanks for reacting.

Morgane is a better singer than Chris. Chris yells and screams too much for my taste. The late Don Williams had a deeper, smoother and more resonant voice. He didn't have to yell and scream to get his point across.

Yeah, Chris is great if you like screaming and yelling. Don still does it better with a deeper, smoother and more resonant voice. Don doesn't need to scream and yell to make his point.

In 1974 I was catching lizards and snakes, eating dirt, getting stung by ants and wasps, and paying almost no attention to music. I do fondly remember Don though. Peace, Love!!

I was 13 when this came out. I liked Don Williams but I was in love with Elvis and Donny Osmond so they got played more than Don. 😂 Donny Osmond - Go Away Little Girl. His first #1 Pop song in Sept. 1971 when he was 13. The Osmonds - One Bad Apple. Jan/Feb 1971 #1 Pop song. Donny and his brothers.
