This album still holds up, always cool to see someone hear it for the first time. Actually a few great articles came out years later about the making of this album. Dre was talking about MC Ren in What's the Difference, Royce da 5'9 wrote the Message, and also wrote to what became Xxxplosive called "The way i be Pimpin" Hittman was supposed to be the next aftermath artist after this but never came out, supposedly because he didn't have any commercial appeal and also 50 came along and all the aftermath resources went to that. You can hear what was going to be Hittmans first single at the end of the "Forgot about Dre" video, it's called "last dayz" Hittman did end up putting a lot of that music out years later on a project called "Hittmanic Verses" it's dope Ho's a Housewife was actually on 3 albums, this, Kurupt's 2nd album Streetz iz a Mutha (definitely deserves a review) and Kurupts disappointing first album Kuruption Knoc'turnal wrote a lot of Dre's verses on this album, along w/ Em and Jay and Royce, check out Knoc's landing and Str8 Westcoast and Bad Intentions Definitely need to also review Restless by Xzibit
@ChiefSiebs

@abdelmessiht
@abdelmessiht 10 месяцев назад
@@ChiefSiebs so many ways, the east coast disc had terrible features aside from Buckshot and Nore, and this is where you started to see Kurupt get real lazy with his raps. After Dogg Food and NY, NY he was considered one of the sharpest lyricists in the game. This album is a big drop off from where he was at with Dogg Food. The west coast cd is better but still left a lot to be desired. Thank God for Streetz is a Mutha after made everyone forget about kuruption

My audio engineering instructor, Mr Peter Novak, mixed the songs F*ck You and Xplosive for this album. He told me Dre had the most amazing work ethic and vision about exactly what impact he wanted this album to have. He said working on this was like being on a movie set. He taught me a lot that Dre taught him and i still keep this album in mind when mixing and my ish sounds too big for some rappers. 😂 Oh idk if it was mentioned but the rumor at the time was that Kurupt's verse was about Master P who was messing with Foxy Brown when she was engaged to Kurupt. 😅🤷🏾‍♂️

Hittman was gonna blow up but I feel like Dre wanted to focus on Eminem. Dre wanted to get away from the gangsta rap vibe for a while. Eminem was a change of pace for Dre. I love the fact that Eminem wrote the first track, The Watcher, on Dr Dre's masterpiece. He was such a large part of his life at the time and he entrusted that track to Eminem to kick things off. You can tell it's written by Em, in terms of style and cadence, yet Dre spits it well as he always does when others write for him (very often). Always loved that intro to the album. Takes me back to when I picked the album up on release! Classic.

Chronic 2001!! Little trivia. The Original title of the album was supposed to be Chronic 2000: No Seeds but Suge Knight who owned royalties on Dre's music since he left Death Row came out with a compilation album called Chronic 2000: Still Smokin' before Dre could drop his. So Dre had to put a weed leaf symbol 2001 as the title. Thats why on Lightspeed you hear it say "you are now listening to the sounds of Chronic 2000" and then dude comes on going "One!!" because it wasnt originally 2001 it was Chronic 2000. Even Eminem says in Forgot About Dre "from here on out its The Chronic 2" so its supposed to have Chronic in the title. Because of that I always consider the title Chronic 2001 when talking about it.

Shoutout to Houston legend Devin the Dude who does the hook and a part on "Fuck You". He's one of the GOATs in my book, and has been knocking out classics with his super unique and smooth style since the early 90s. Still kicking too. Can't recommend him enough, especially if you (but even if you don't) smoke weed.

Eminem took over where 2pac left off lyrically.. Nobody wants to give pac his flowers.. If pac never did it Eminem would've been just another mediocre rapper.. Edit: if pac never died Eminem would've had to come with his own rapping style because biters weren't allowed then

The PRIMARY DIFFERENCE between Dr. Dre and Drake is this. Dr. Dre never once claimed to be a Rapper nor the Greatest Rapper and doesn't act as if he writes his own music. Because he knows his talents is as a Producer/Beat Maker. Drake on the other hand act as if all of his hits were written by himself.

Cube has said openly he loved the hood, but that's not where he wants to raise his family. Nothing wrong with moving to a better neighborhood, he just called NWA out at the time for not owning it

Dr dre chronic albums were ensemble albums to put his artist on. First chronic was to showcase rage, snoop ,dogg pound ,rbx and nate dogg ...the chronic 2001 was showcasing eminem, hitman ,xzibit

Cube said what he said 10 years earlier than the Chronic 2001 album. Before rap was pop music and Cube was a young fella with that young hungry street energy.

For you to say that Eminem would be banned back in 1999 or 2000 is hilarious because they tried to ban him back then! They blamed him and Marilyn Manson for the school shootings, gay rights groups like GLAAD protested against his music heavily and they STILL couldn't ban him! Even President Clinton tried to name drop him!!! It took for him to perform at the Grammys with Elton John for the world to ease up on them and they couldn't because he was still rapping outrageous lyrics! Trust me... they tried banning him but with Interscope/Jimmy Iovine's success and money, it was real hard to stop him.

listen when the chronic album came out in '92, you could hardly walk the streets without hearing it being played in homes and in cars driving by, this album was good but it's not the first chronic album ✊😉

When I first bought this album in 99 when I like 11-12 or something. I bumped this album to death. This was on constant spin for over a year+. Great memories. Especially 2000 summer.

28:15 Nas did one of his best freestyles to this track. Also when Dre said "fucked you up in my last video doing the tango and cash", he is referring Ghetto Fabulous by Ras Kass ft Dr Dre. U need to review some Ras Kass. One of the most underrated rappers in history. Also Ras Kass - Understandable smooth
