“Butter Boy” was written about David Bowie. Jean Millington was dating him for a period of time . Brie Howard Darling is a dear friend of mine, and other ladies of the band are also cool FB friends of mine. You’ve discovered gold when you discover Fanny. They’ve got so many great songs, thanks for featuring them. I’m gonna tell the ladies I know and they’ll be tickled.

WOW!! THE TABLES HAVE TURNED...THE STUDENT SCHOOLS THE TEACHER!! Let me explain, I have been watching you guys since pretty much the beginning when Jordan was by himself and watched you guys grow into one of the best reactor teams that I've seen on RU-vid!! And as a 64 year old gentleman ( I use the term loosely) who enjoys watching younger folks get experience and feelings about the music that I grew up with!! So in a way I kind of feel like a teacher and you guys are like the students learning about things that I already know about so to speak!! But this song today is a reversal because I can honestly say that I have never heard of this band or this song and now I will be going into the rabbit hole to research and listen to other things because I honestly can't believe that I never heard of this group and this song was fantastic!! So thank you Amber and Jordan for teaching ME something!!!

I only knew them because they actually appeared quite often on talk shows in the 70's, like Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas, etc. But I never heard them on the radio. This is their biggest "hit", and it barely scraped into the top 30. I've since learned more about them, as they've kind of been rediscovered in recent years.

You MUST MUST MUST check out the live Beat Club videos(with the blue-screen background, the ones with overlayed graphics will kill your eyes!) "Blind Alley" rocks hard, but they're all good. Fanny was awesome. Four very talented ladies who could rock out. There are some clips out on RU-vid recorded for a German TV show, that show just how talented they were and rock out a bit more than this song does. Check those out. They should have been a lot bigger than they are, but were maybe to a bit too far ahead of their time. I remember their song Charity Ball being played on the radio in the early 70s.

Fanny is a highly underrated band who have finally gotten some recognition in recent years with the release of a documentary in 2021. Unfortunately, Butter Boy does not feature their original guitarist, June Millington, and drummer, Alice DeBuhr. They also broke up shortly after this song was released. The members at this time were Jean Millington (bass and vocals; she sang lead on this track), Nickey Barclay (keyboard, vocals), Patti Quatro (guitar, vocals) and Brie Brandt (nka Brie Howard-Darling; drums, vocals).. Fanny's first four albums were more hard rock. These included their first hit, Charity Ball, and a series of other songs worth reacting to, including Blind Alley, Thinking of You, All Mine, Place in the Country, Borrowed Time, and excellent covers of Badge, Ain't That Peculiar, Hey Bulldog, and Last Night I Had a Dream. After the band broke up in 1975, the Millington sisters tried to form a new band, but they declined contract offers because there were asked to use the Fanny name and material. They also performed and recorded under their own names. Barclay released one solo album before retiring from music. DeBuhr went into A&R. A few years ago, the Millingtons and Howard-Darling formed a new band called Fanny Walked the Earth, which release one album before being sidelined by both of the Millingtons having health problems that they have been recovering from.

AT LAST! … I have been trying to suggest to all of the reaction channel hosts that I watch to give Fanny a listen. VASTLY underrated group! All it takes is to listen to their early material to realize how proficient musicians they were, on par, and often superior to their male counterparts of the time. "Ain’t that Peculiar" - "Blind Alley" - "Hey Bulldog" - "Charity Ball" are shining examples of their talent. Having noticed that the " reactors" often tail each other, I have no doubt that Fanny will soon have many more new fans in the days to come. Congratulations to the Rob Squad for being the first! A documentary on them is out now ( or soon ) … does anyone know how I can watch it ?

Never heard of Fanny, but they’re interesting. Moving on, at this point, after presumably getting hundreds of request for Carole King, the only reason for there to be no reactions to her is that there have been but they’ve been blocked. There simply is no other excuse. I’ve said this before, but she is simply (and unarguably) the biggest female singer-songwriter of all time, rivaled only by Joni Mitchell. She cannot be ignored.

I just listened to a couple of seconds of this. I can honestly say I never heard this before. I never heard of them either.🤷‍♀️ What’s up with the “hard as a rock” line in the song. LoL Oh my!! Hahaha!! This song is pretty funky.

Like your reactions. Saw them in UK back in 1973 or so - Bowie was huge fan. Such a great band - do more!!!!

Jean Millington is the singer - this is from their final album - great story two sisters Jean and June Millington arrived in the US from the Philippines in the early sixties. As teenagers, they played gigs throughout the western part of the US and Canada. Worked their asses off until they made it David Bowie (the song is about Jean and David's short time together) said that it was a crime that Fanny wasn't more recognized. Check out The Beat Club video with Fanny on RU-vid. Most excellent.

I'm a fan of this band and *so happy* that you're reacting to them! :-) This song was a hit, but the album it comes from, "Rock and Roll Survivors," was recorded after two of the four original members had left the band. For the *original* Fanny band, with Jean and June Millington, who are sisters, check out songs from the first four Fanny albums. "Blind Alley" *seriously* rocks! "Charity Ball" is great too! Fanny rules! :-)

Members of Fanny have sung background on a couple of songs by one of your favorite groups (and mine), ELO. You can hear them on "Livin' Thing" and "Tightrope". I highly recommend reacting to both.

First All Female Rock Band signed to a major label " who was also a touring band ". Love Fanny, especially their early stuff. Their original name before signing with the record label was "Wild Honey".

Couple more female fronted bands to consider would be T'Pau, Skunk Anansie and The Warning. All three bands are very well worth a look. First two from the eighties. The Warning very much current and , I believe, just signed a record deal. Taken them four or five years to get the offer they wanted.

THANK YOU THANK YOU ! Finally someone features Fanny and maybe they can get the recognition they deserve. Next please show the Dresden Dolls featuring Amanda Palmer's dynamic duo from Boston. Try the live "Good Day " or videos of Girl Anachronism and Coin Operated Boy. Show the world how talented they were.

Fanny, is such a rocking band! I just love them. Look up, all of their stuff. The best, was from "Beat Club", a German TV show. Look, for the long video. It's totally worth it. This features saxophone. I'm not sure, who's on sax. I always, dig the keys, and the amazing harmonies in the vocals. Everyone in the group brought 🔥, when it came to instrumentation.

Some Female Friday Suggestions. Seen mentioned many times, you gotta do Til' Tuesday's "Voices Carry" Amazing song and story video to boot. Also you loved Laura Branigan's awesome "Self Control", my favorite by her, but her best pure vocal performance is "Power of Love". It never got the due diligence it should have, amazing song and vocals by her,. Also very good was hit Solitaire". And lastly, revisit the Eurythmics and "Would I lie to you" , you'll love it...

Sad to admit that I missed out on appreciating them first time around... Even after they appeared on a Don Kirshner's Rock Concert along with Raspberries (who I keep requesting for "Overnight Sensation")... But years later, when I was hosting a '/70's show on the radio and later the internet, I loved to highlight their stuff. Though they only hit the top 40 twice in the USA (this song and "Charity Ball" (, they were very popular in concert and overseas. Original member June Millington (Jean's sister) is a dynamic guitarist who still performs to this day! (Another song to check out is "I Had A Dream Last Night")
