The one on the left, playing with his hands, is sully. He is the lead singer, but also plays guitar, piano, and harmonica. At the end of this video, you see him throw his drum sticks to the crowd. Immediately after this clip ended, he stood up, and started singing the next song, while shannon continued on the drums.

I was actually at that show. The one that started with his hands is Sully who is also their vocalist. Shannon was the other drummer and models his unique style after Animal from the Muppets. Both are world renoun drummers/percussionists.

The term drum battle tends to have a different meaning than a lyric battle. a lyric battle or a rap battle usually has 2 people going head to head taking turns trying to 'one up' the other person, It's a game of "I'm better than you..." And although a drumbattle can be a turn based battle it's usually More from a place of mutual respect, They both know the other drummer is really good otherwise there would be no fun in destroying somebody who can't play as good as you. With drummers it's more like a game of "let's play this, but can you keep up with me"? As someone who's been playing the drums for over 25 years there's no greater feeling than finding that groove with someone else of similar skill and even though we try to outshine the other person just a little it's more about the music And the fun of it.
