My husband has been driving truck for 40 years. We will be married 43 years next month. I am actually sitting here waiting for him to get home while watching this video. He will probably be driving for at least another 10 years. God Bless the truckers and their families.

Red sovine is the ultimate story teller especially when it comes to truck drivers, teddy bear, little Joe, the gear jammer and the hobo. Phantom 309, Billy's Christmas with, and only a few of his amazing emotional songs. I grew up in the 80s and I love Kathy mattea

My grandfather was a truck driver locally. He taught me a great respect for truck drivers. At 26, married a diesel mechanic who's uncle owed a trucking company who's drivers, were husband and wife team driver's. Before he retired, one couple had a million miles one a 7 to 8 year old Peterbuilt (according to my Grandfather and husband) the best truck on the road. My Grandfather once said "Old truckers never die, they just get a New Peterbuilt" LOL. It was a joke but it stuck with me.

George Jones & his wife Nancy were my parent's neighbors back in the 80's when they moved to my small SE Texas town. They built a huge log house, opened a club, restarrant, dancehall, outdoor stage & RV park out in the middle of nowhere in the piney woods. George's older sister livex in the area & it's not far from where he was raised. We all worked for them as well as half the others in town. They treated everyone with consideration & respect & paid well too. George & Nancy thought the world of my dad, the nicest most humble man you could ever meet. Honest & trustworthy too which is rare in their world. Seems rare in any world these days.

Back in 2008 when the US was struggling, my husband quit his retail job and went to truck driving school. He spent the first couple months gone and we had NEVER been apart before. Early 2009, we gave up our home, gave our children most of our belongings and I went out on the road with him. We would stay out 7 to 10 weeks and then get home for 7-10 days. We would grab the 4 and 5 year old grandsons, get a motel and have a blast enjoying them. In 2012, after 4 years on the road, we just could not handle being away from our grandsons like that so he found a local driving job and we came off the road. It is grueling mentally out there. Drivers not only have to deal with hateful shippers and receivers but they also have to deal with very bad and such rude drivers. It really started taking it's toll on my husband. It is a thankless job! I absolutely love this song and as always, great reaction.

This song reminds me of my Uncle Billy. He drove long haul til he retired at 62 & then bought his own rig to make short local runs (100 miles or so here in Texas haha) After just a few months when he was delivering a load he was in the trailer having a friendly chat with the guy the load was for. He left & returned about 5 minutes later & my uncle was lying on the floor dead of a massive heart attack. I love this song but it always makes me cry a little. Great reaction.

I never listened to country music until I heard this one day in a friend's car. Blew my mind! I started listening to country stations just hoping to hear this again, and discovered that country music wasn't so bad after all. It's all I listen to now...almost. Late 80s and early 90s was the best! New country...NOPE!

Country music has for the most part become complete and utter hip hoppy pop country bro country mess. Thank god we can still listen and watch actual real country music and music videos on RU-vid to remind us of what real country with instruments and awesome vocalists

The personal sacrifice of the "trucker" gets so overlooked. Ive known many over the years including my uncle. I belong to a Toyota Tacoma enthusiasts group. One of the other group members is from Puerto Rico, he regularly flies to the mainland staying weeks at a time driving frieght loads so he can make a living for his family. God Bless that man & God Bless truckers around the world who sacrifice for their families.

Any song pertaining semi trucks have a piece of my heart. My grandpa was a truck driver, finally retired at the age of 80 (he is almost 87), drove for over 60 years. He owned and operated his own trucking company, he and my grandma used to drive cross country, until my aunt was old enough to start school, then my grandma stayed home and he would drive cross country or he would send his drivers on the longer runs. Then once I came along, he started driving local and was home every night, which was a blessing. I grew up around trucks. Even took the truck to my senior prom. The stories my grandparents would tell about their cross country days are awesome and hilarious. I am so grateful to the truck drivers and their families. My uncle and a few of my cousins are truck drivers as well. My husband’s dad was a truck driver before he died and he had 3 or 4 brothers that are truck drivers now.

My husband was a long haul trucker. I was lucky to see him for a couple days every two weeks. It was so lonely for me that we decided I would get my CDL license and we became a team. It is a hard life but I got to travel the whole of the USA. We had good days and some bad but I will never regret that. Retired now but on sunny days when the weather is great I wish I could get out there for one more run.

Song released 1987. It's referenced in the movie "Rain Man" (1988). Not sure when the music vid was made, but it's pretty old. When I was a kid in rural Wisconsin in the 1950s-60s, my dad was a long-haul trucker. Drove all over the U.S. (The Lower 48, anyway.) Kept a rented room 60 miles from our home, near the company's departure station. Worked something like 90 hours a week. Came home on Saturday night, left again Sunday afternoon.

I've driven OTR for nearly 30 years now. I'm single, so I can stay out nearly as long as I like. Time away from home is the hardest part for most guys. I'm off the road at least temporarily now due to, originally, health issues (essentially handled now), and my truck becoming infeasible to repair due to its age. But that's a different story. My average time away from home has typically been 3-6 or 7 months. Although the last time I was out, I stayed away from home for 11.5 months, due to not wanting to potentially drag Covid back to my elderly parents. But unbeknownst to any of us, when I finally came home to vote in the (unfortunately overturned) 2020 election, one of my parents had gotten it, and I actually got it from them. It was rough, but they got through it. 11.5 months was the longest I'd ever been out. But being single, it's not actually hard. I actually prefer long times out like that. I just pace myself. My average week is/was 2500 to 3000 miles, usually towards the upper end of that. A few times it was just short of 4000 miles in a few different 7 day periods. All legally ran, with an electronic onboard recorder (EOBR). Running that hard wasn't intended, I just inadvertently over-planned myself. The speed limits are 75, 80 and 85 mph in vast parts of Texas, and I made use of every mph of it during those hectic weeks, lol. Most of those times I could have actually gotten a bit over 4000 miles legally, but I likely wouldn't have had any place to park when I got to the end of my hours, so I pulled in my horns and stopped where I knew I would have a place to park. If you like trucker songs, you should check out multiple Red Sovine songs ("Truck Drivers Prayer," "Phantom 309" and "Teddy Bear", "Giddy-up Go"). Those four at least for sure. "Teddy Bear" 1976, Red Sovine ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5zoTLwrm9QE.html "Phantom 309", 1976, Red Sovine ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Mye3aikHBjc.html "Truck Drivers Prayer" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--MjGaUjtiXk.html "Giddy-up Go", Red Sovine ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1j763lmAAP0.html (There is also a good sequel song by Minnie Pearl, called "Giddy-up Go Answer") Merle Haggard "Movin' On" Theme song from the 70s TV show by the same name. "Movin' On" Merle Haggard And "I Wish I Could have Been There For That", by John Anderson. Official video below. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PvHOEJjDnY0.html Now...for a couple of funny ones. I don't know if you ever do what are called novelty songs, the funny songs that country music singers USED to put out every once in a while. But you recently said you liked the comedy of the Smokey and the Bandit movie. And these two songs are just two of the funny songs from that era. These are about (slight spoiler ahead) the mind games that cops used to play on truckers in order to trap them into speeding tickets. I'm only giving that much away, because since you're British, and these popular songs from the 70s are entirely in the CB lingo at the time, I thought it might help you to follow along with the storylines a bit better, if you decide to check them out. They were played frequently for years on country radio in the 70s, but at least one is slightly politically incorrect today, although only to those people who are too easily offended. "CB Savage" Rod Hart (a 70s song, but with a mid 80s official video by Rod Harts son) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9HJE8XublDo.html Well...I'm disappointed in RU-vid. I tried to find the original version of the Cledus Maggard classic "White Knight", but it's not coming up. There is a similar version by him, but it's not the original I'm familiar with, so I won't post it. I don't think it's quite as good as the one from the 8 track I had when I was a teenager in the early 80s. Mr Taylor, you probably ought to save these links somehow for future reference, if you want to potentially do these songs someday, because I probably won't be posting them again. I put a lot of time and work into looking them up, and finding what I think are the best versions I could find. And I would know. This is my era, and my profession. Btw, there are a LOT of good trucker songs, and other great songs besides these. I just thought of one last one that I'll leave for you. The earliest one I ever loved as a kid. The first trucker song I ever remember hearing. It's from several years before I was born actually. "Give Me 40 Acres (to turn this rig around)", 1964, The Willis Brothers (lyrics & song & group information in the video dropdown) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qDxVJ471hyg.html

Thank you for reacting to Kathy Mattea, she has a wonderful voice. Walking Away A Winner is another good song choice.

Even if you don't want to do a reaction to it.... I would so love for you hear Kathy sing "Where've You Been?". It's her best, and it's very special.

My husband's been driving over 40 years. He's on the road 18 days at a time. He's headed home now, should be here in about an hour. Home for 3 days then off again. Love this song!

You're good at guessing when these old tunes were made. It was 1987 for this one. Love watching your show. When ya get time, check out 'Buy Dirt' by Jordan Davis & Luke Bryan. I know you would appreciate it & it's meaning. On the subject of hard working regular folks, you need to check out 'Forty Hour Week' by Alabama. Awesome video.

This was released in 87, but it does have the 90s vibe. Kathy was part of the small group of country singers that started the end of the dismal 80s period of country music.

Thank you for covering this song. Back when I drove, I would avaerage 125000 miles per month. I would be out for all but 3 or 4 days month. It's a hard life but it is work someone needs to do.

My husband and I planned on selling our house and buying a new truck and spend some years on the road... he'd driven a big rig for 40 years... but as the saying goes.. "you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans" I lost him to cancer in 2016. Love the song and the reaction! Keep em coming!
