I like how every reactor starts grooving as soon as the first guitar chords start. I grew up on all the old country artists. This is a long, but incredible rabbit hole you are headed down.

There were a few singers that embraced the old west, American history, and some world history. Marty Robbins was one of if not the best. Those artists were responsible for my love of History and American history. After 3rd grade they helped me work on math in history class or sneak in a nap. The teachers quizzed me about that weeks class work then tested me on the next weeks class work. Get your kids to listen to storytelling from artist like this

Another really good song by Marty that has the same type of vibe is called 'The Ballad of Bill Thaxton'. I haven't seen many people react to it, for some reason, but it's absolutely worth checking out!

Acoustic lead in the background provided by the No. 1 at the time, Nashville session player Grady Martin. Listening to Grady play I can see where Jerry Garcia's style evolved from.

Not only was Marty a great singer, writer and storyteller, he was a NASCAR race driver.

I grew up listening to this entire album. It was a family favorite. Even though I was a rock fan, I loved every song on it and knew the lyrics to most. When I had kids I introduced them to the album and it became a favorite of theirs. I had a copy on CD in the 90's and played it to death. If I had grandkids I'd make them listen to it too. It's absolute gold through and through, there's not a weak song on it. Marty Robbins has an amazing voice, he's a fantastic story teller and writes and arranges music that really evokes the era of the old west in these songs. If anyone gives you trouble for listening to it, tell them it's their loss.

Quality stands out regardless of genre, and good storytelling is a special art whether it's a song, movie, or book. Running Gun is a lesser known song on that album but possibly my favorite.

I love everything about this. But I really love that acoustic stand-up bass. It's so perfect for this mix. Although he was a one-hit wonder, for a song that was so popular at the time and also shows off incredible storytelling, The Auctioneer by Leroy Van Dyke. It's not hard to find and it's a black and white video of him and his band live on a show, and it's so funny and so well delivered, and I'm also curious what you might think of his style, the way he presents himself at the time.

I wish you would have played it again, I love watching you react, you are so genuine, and those folks that give you a hard time should just tune in elsewhere if they don't have anything good to say, I'm sure you will get plenty of viewers that love your personality and your smile!

I get where you're coming from about you generation not maybe liking this - Marty tells stories, stories in his songs you can follow. Nothing like it today. I watched your El Paso reaction as well. Stories man, not just a song that says words with a nice random hook.

Don’t avoid comments of this song, not everyone appreciates where music came from and how far it had to adapt to todays total bullshit! The old stuff has actual feeling. Todays stuff has nothing but trash to offer instead of a good story
