This is a great song, but honestly, I don't think it's one of VoicePlay's best. Don't get me wrong- for when it was released, it was excellent. But this group has improved so much since this time, which is crazy when you think about how good they are here. There have been some changes to the lineup (Earl Elkins Jr., the high tenor on the back right, left the group in 2020, and this was done prior to J. None joining them, although he left earlier this year to join the Navy, and was replaced by Cesar De La Rosa, leaving them still short a tenor 1, but rich in featured artists to round out their number.) What I feel has changed the most, however, is the maturation of their arrangements, which have become some serious jaw-dropping showstoppers. (Don't believe me? Check out their cover of Hoist The Colours, or their most recent release of a Wicked medley.) VoicePlay is the total creative package. Unlike Pentatonix and Home Free (the other two in the trifecta of contemporary a cappella groups), they create their own vocal arrangements. Generally that's done by either Layne Stein (vocal percussion) or Geoff Castellucci (bass vocals), although Eli Jacobson (pronounced 'Ellie'; he's the bald tenor 2) has been doing a bit as well. Whoever does the arrangement also directs and edits the video (Eli does the lighting), and Layne is co-owner of a video production studio, Pattycake Productions, which gives them some more options (and occasionally some really great sets). Of the three groups, VoicePlay is the most theatrical, but what I love is their creative control from start to finish on their projects. It keeps their sound very unique and recognizable, and sets them apart from the other very talented a cappella artists. It also allows them to take risks that the other groups seldom do and as an artist myself, I appreciate that aspect very much.
Welcome to the VoicePlay rabbit hole, there's lots to explore! If you liked this, you definitely need to look into other songs. Some I'd recommend are Hoist the Colours, If I were a Rich Man/Girl, Queen in 5 mins., and then they just released a Wicked Medley. Oh, who am I kidding, there is so much from the Halo cover to their minis and ACA top 10s. And if you like Halloween/spooky songs, this is the group for you. Enjoy every minute of the journey!
I agree 100% on all songs. Queen in 5 minutes is one of their best. Also Oogie Boogie from the nightmare before Christmas really shows off the base singer Geoff Castellucci.
Really enjoyed your reaction, loved the jaw drop when Geoff hit whatever that low low note was and sustained it. Watch whatever catches your eye, but my recommendations are Warriors (not strictly acapella because Layne, the beat boxer plays a mean violin), Can't Help Falling in Love, Queen in 5 minutes, Hoist the Colours and their new Wicked medley. Welcome to the Voiceplay rabbit hole!
#TheatreKidsOfACappella. They just dropped WICKED! Medley 5 days ago. They go all out with make-up and costumes in lots of their videos. Geoff's (Jeff's ) bass is so creamy smooth.
Best of VoicePlay: Queen in 5 Minutes, Boy Bands in 5 Minutes, Oogie Boogie’s Song, My Mother Told Me, Theme from Halo, The Dragonborn Comes, Hoist the Colors and Wicked Medley.
Really enjoyed your reaction. Definitely try Hoist the Colours, My Mother Told Me, or Little Mermaid Medley. Geoff drops notes that break most reactors.
I agree that this isn't their best, but only because they've been absolutely KILLING it this past 18 months. This is great, and they keep improving and evolving, and their recent stuff is AWESOME. Check out Hoist the Colours, Little Mermaid Medley, Wicked Medley, Queen in 5 Minutes, Warriors, If I Were a Rich Man...
Great reaction Voiceplay is also an acapella group but they are more theatrical. If you like this group and disney i recommand you little mermaid medley ( is my favourite but it s just my opinion)
PTX was my favorite group until recently, but the quality of music voiceplay is putting out recently is insane. Check out Hoist the Colours, Halo and Wicked
great reaction, theyre one of my personal favourite groups. the base singer in Voiceplay is Geoff Castellucci and he has some individual songs as well, 16 Tons is a pretty popular one and it really shows off his impressive range
Voiceplay's recently released Wicked Medley is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. It took over 2 years to create the arangement. Highly recomended.
Welcome to VoicePlay! They’re my favorite of the big three a capella groups and are considered the theater kids of the a capella world. Geoff (the bass) has some amazing low notes in many of there songs. Eli (top left) has a fantastic upper range for a tenor. Earl (top right) is unfortunately no longer with the group so you won’t see him in the more recent videos but he also has an insane upper register. Layne is a magnificent beat boxer and is the one who arranges a number of their pieces, with Geoff arranging the rest, and also has a lovely high baritone when he get the chance to sing. In more recent videos you’ll see J None singing baritone/low tenor though he also left to join the navy earlier this year and his spot was filled by Caesar. Both have an amazing energy and add a lot to the group. For other songs I highly recommend their renditions of nightmare before Christmas and the grinch since the holidays are coming up, as well as Halo, the little mermaid medley, wicked medley, and one of my personal favorites If I were a rich man/girl. Hope to see more from you
Pick what you like from Voice Play ...you can't go wrong...they are simply just amazing... I would suggest you try some of their newer releases to get truly see the depth of their talent and how far they have come from this one.. Hoist the Colours, Halo, and their Wicked Medley are just a few to look at... That being said so many from the last few years are incredible... Thank you for your reaction and welcome to Voice Play 😊
Welcome to this rabbit hole. I am always here for many of your reactions (like Upchurch), but I am also a heavy follower of the a cappella scene, as well.
These are a great bunch. They do amazing medleys..check out The Little Mermaid Medley, Queen in 5 Minutes, My Mother Told Me and Hoist The Colours . They embrace the costumes, the comedy.
Most Aca-Fans concur that the holy trinity of acapella groups are Pentatonix, Home Free & Voiceplay (in whatever order you prefer, they are all on equal footing - just different styles). Anyways, welcome to the party and enjoy! Nice reaction, btw. :) #VoicePlaya4Life
Voice Play are known as The Theater Kids. The original members worked at Disney in their earlier career. They have come a long way since then. Check out their new stuff.
Not much to add to the VP fan club below. Just pick something that appeals to you and it'll be amazing. Attention to detail, super talented arranging, and the harmonies....dear Lord, the harmonies! I still catch something new every time I listen. This is an earlier work and while it's really good, they've just gotten better. VoicePlay is putting out Grammy quality songs recently. Geoff does solo work too and it's every bit as good. Try House of the Rising Sun, or Blackbird to catch all 5 octaves of his range. The low notes here are nothing--try Halo to hear his lowest. He also just dropped his new Christmas song.
I just found you through your PTX reactions and looked for Voiceplay....Here you are! Kinda hoping you'll make the big three triad and hit up Home Free as well!
2 of the top 3 a Capella groups down. Home Free is the last group in the top 3. They lean more country. Voiceplay are the theater kids and PTX are the pop kids.
This is great but it has nothing on their more recently stuff. Try Hoist the Colours, If I were a Rich Man/Girl, The Halo theme tune (listen the the talk at the end), and of course the normal entry song Oogie Boogie Song. then go fine Geoff's personal channel and listen to Over the misty mountains far, sixteen tons or his most recent Monster mash. To complete the set of Acapella groups who can do impossible things with their voices then wander over and listen to Homefree.
Voice Plays version of Oogie Boogie song from Nightmare before Christmas is totally awesome & Carry On My Wayward Son is a beautiful version of theirs also.
Voice Play has gotten so much better than this. Put them on your radar for these as follows. 1. Hoist the Colors from Pirates of the Caribbean. 2. I Got Friends on The Other Side. 3. If I Were a Rich Man/Girl 4. The Dragonborn Comes. 5. Halo 6. Queen In 5 Minutes They all will blow your mind. As I said before, their theatrical acapella versions are unbelievable.
Please do a reaction video of Voice Plays version of The Dragonborn Comes-Skyrim it is one of their newest ones & also a reaction video of Voice Plays version of the Halo theme song from the video game Halo.Best versions ever. I must add Tennessee Whiskey & Carry On Wayward Son & Mr. Blue Sky. They always stay true to the original songs but add their own twist on it. Please give them a chance.
