I’m a be long winded with this one, 1st Hit-Boy, he wasn’t on my radar until KD2. I listened to KD1 but not like that. 2 made me go back and listen to KD1, it’s just as amazing and now with magic, he’s in super producer status. It’s not like one or two songs that are good, the whole albums. Nas and Hit out here like Snoop and Dre in the 90’s. 2nd, you’re right, Nas is a Poet. He tell you in the third verse of “Nas is like”, I’m a poor man’s dream, a thug poet… 3rd, we really need to appreciate what Nas is doing late in his career. This does not happen. Even with the greats like Prince and Michael Jackson people say I love their music but it’s not like their earlier stuff. What Nas is doing now is better than some of his earlier stuff. When we talk about the best, those who are deceased should be placed in a special category. As much as I like B.I.G’s music, he put out two great albums. Nas got something like 19 albums right now 👑🐐Nas!!!

He’s the greatest ever not just right now. Love Biggie, Pac, Big L, and Pun but they don’t have the catalog. Their lives were cut short and while their music was great we will never know how their future projects would’ve been. Most tend trend down not upwards. Nas stayed great lyrically his whole 30 years in the game. Some people didn’t like production on a few of his albums but they could never question his pen. His subject matter is unrivaled, I’ve listened to alot of hip hop and no MC, not one, has touched as many topics as Nas. Also number 1 in substance. He does it all. He’s technical, he has different flows, he’s a great storyteller, his vocabulary is vast, his voice and cadence is top notch. The overall best MC. I would say Jay is the only one that compare with the longevity he has had as well
@iraford5788
@iraford5788 2 года назад
Well to be absolutely fair pac, biggie, big l and pun never got a chance to expand their catalog like Nas because all their lives were cut short and Nas started his career around the same time as them so we don't know if their careers would trend up or down.
@Iranmyers
@Iranmyers 2 года назад
95% of the time it goes down. There’s a few exceptions, Nas and Jay being 2. Biggie didn’t even like being in the studio much, hence he didn’t have any leftover songs after passing, not sure he would’ve been putting out music consistently. Pac was transitioning to acting sure he would’ve continued dropping music but you can’t be the best if you’re not all in. Pun while great technically still lacked the subject matter and substance, pretty much the same for BIG L who specialized more on punchlines.
@barrekelly

@@Iranmyers facts and I rock with Jay but his latest music ain’t that great lyrically although still dope. The only MC’s that had a career of 30yrs & still hasn’t lost a step is Nasir & Brad Jordan (Scarface) them my 2 goats, with Nas at the top due to this last year & a half run…ish is crazy when u think about how bro is rhyming at 48 yrs old🤦🏽‍♂️🔥🔥🔥

Peace King. When you get a chance, react to Stillmatic. That was Nas’ comeback album after everyone counted him out due to his third and fourth albums, (“I Am” and “Nastradamus”) being received poorly by the critics and the fans alike. And to add insult to injury, Jay-Z had just came at him on “The Takeover”. Everyone was saying that Nas fell off (after “illmatic” and “It Was Written”) and that there was no coming back from Jay-Z’s “Takeover”. Then BOOM, he dropped Stillmatic and Nasty Nas proved all the doubters wrong. The album even got a 5 mic rating on The Source magazine, which only a handful of albums had ever gotten a 5 Mic rating (illmatic being one of them) So now he had TWO 5-mic albums (illmatic and Stillmatic).

Glad to see you finally do this one, Magic was SUCH a welcome surprise for Christmas Eve '21 of all days. There was such a wild moment letting the album play through the first listen where I was just "did this man really just make something that compares favorably, if not *BETTER* than KD2 in less than a year???" Dude is absolutely not playing, the golden child of hip hop indeed. I still have only The Notorious B.I.G. over Nas in a personal preference kind of way, but the depth of Nas' bag and this new run he's been on makes it so hard for anyone without the catalog depth to compare favorably. Edit: Not only that, but Nas' run makes me wish we were in the universe where him and BIG were active and competitive with one another. Nas' situation just makes you realize how much music we really lost when them boys BIG and Pac died.

I agree with your opinion about Drake not really being worthy of a top 3 spot, and this shows how smart Nas is. Check this bro, because on the Wu for the Children track, notice how Nas lined himself up with J Cole, lined Jay up with Drake, and lined Biggie up with Kendrick Lamar...I think he lined Jay up with Drake as an intentional backhanded diss disguised as a compliment...Nas' baby mama Carmen said in her book that the only other rapper he rated was Biggie. Back in the 90s, Nas wasn't happy with Jay always being mentioned in the top 3 with him and Biggie

At the end of track 2, when they are referring to “who killed hip-hop” and “hip-hop is dead” they are referring to the album by Nas called HIP-HOP IS DEAD. They were not referring to Nas killing hip-hop, lol.

He was really saying Nas killed Hiphop after releasing that album. That was Soulja Boy speaking.

1/ Speechless that Hit-Boy resurrected 90s Nas 2/ The GOAT reminds all pretenders to the throne to Meet Joe Black 3/ Ugly is a grower, growing more beautiful with every listen 4/ 40-16 Building is rightful and well-earned braggadociousness 5/ Hollywood Gangsta is for all the shook halfway crooks 6/ Wu for the Children is the golden era through rose-tinted 'phones 7/ Wave Gods Premiers lyrical and turntable genius 8/ The Truth will scrunch your face harder than an outrage (Joe Black meet God's Son, not sleepin' with ya cousin) 9/ Dedicated is head-nodding reminiscence bringing halftime Magic 10/10
