I was also released into the world in 1973. I really enjoyed all your reactions to Pink Floyd. I'd never listened to Dark Side until about 4 years ago, my beautiful wife and daughter were still asleep and I woke up early at 5AM, went into the garden, had a cup of coffee, lit a joint and hit play on this album. I pruned the roses and danced and wept and connected with music, it moved my soul, it changed me.....I have just bought a Hip Hop CD so you and me are doing it in reverse. Much love to you from the UK my friend.....don't let Trump get you down :) xx

Same. I'm addicted to all of these reaction channels, watching people experience songs I know and love for the first time. It's beautiful. I remember an interview with David Gilmour where he said something to the effect of how jealous he was of people who got to hear it as a finished piece for the first time, because he never got to experience that himself.

I wouldn’t say it’s meant to be played on a loop. It’s more just attention to detail and a representation of the cycle of the human condition. Playing an album on a perfect loop wasn’t really a thing at the time of release.

No one else will recommend this one but Obscured by Clouds is the most underrated album by this band. Brain Damage is one of my faves on this record! ALOT of people think thissl cut is the title cut. But actually, there is no song called Dark Side of the Moon. This is also the only cut on the entire record that has the words Dark Side of the Moon in the lyrics. O me more fascinating fact....Dark Side of the Moon is the first record to actually win a Grammy 30 years AFTER its release! This is without a doubt one of the best records EVER! Pure genius! Thanks for playing it!

DSotM has been on the charts 900 weeks, nearly three years, and has sold 45 million copies. 45 years later and still selling. Fourth best selling album ever, only MJ, the Eagles and AC / DC have albums that have done better. For me, it’s one of those albums that just stands out with hairs on it. It’s not just music, it’s fine art, a true masterpiece. Epic.

@TheSteveDallas
@TheSteveDallas 6 лет назад
The biggest problem with digital media these days is with albums like The Wall which don't have dead air between songs. You tend to get a pause between songs which destroys the mood of the album. CD's are still the best way to listen to albums like these. Its easy enough to get a head unit/stereo for your car with a CD player.
@RockyRoller

Don't have a CD in my current car...however if I did, I would listen to albums like The Wall on it because it sucks to listen to them off a USB Stick or iTunes or whatever. Digital music SUCKS when it comes to keeping continuity between tracks. Essentially, it destroyed the idea of concept albums in favor of single tracks.

Man, about time I saw this video. This song gives me chills! I knew you'd love it when that female vocals kicked!! She ads soo much to the song. Interesting fact that quote at the end "There is no dark side in the moon, really. Matter of fact, it's all dark. The only thing that makes it look light is the sun." That was said by Alan Turing, a British scientist and mathematician. He was famous for breaking the Nazi's Enigma code during World War 2 and without that we may not have won that war, at the very least he helped shorten it and by doing so saved thousands of lives. In the process of breaking the code he also basically made the first modern computer and without him we wouldn't have the tech we have today. His name is also given to an idea he had called "the Turing Test" which basically says that artificial intelligence will eventually be as smart or smarter than humans. I think he is included on this album for one reason in particular which is how his government treated him when they discovered he was gay. The man was a national hero and a genius but because he was gay they treated him like an unwanted , like he had a mental illness, and that he needed to punished for it. They chemically castrated him. Fucking heinous. To treat anyone that way is disgusting, but to do it to a man who had given so much of himself already and had done so much good, shows how ignorant and dark society is and can be even to the very best of us. The last line of the song is "everything under the sun is in tune/ But the sun is eclipsed by the moon" meaning that we on Earth are on the dark side of the moon, that we are not living in the light of the sun where everything is in tune. We live in the dark ignorance where a beautiful human like Alan Turing is treated with such cruelty and inhumanity.

These songs hold a very sacred place in my heart. I fell for my first love while listening to these albums and songs when I was a teenager in the 90's. It's hard to listen to them without getting too nostalgic and depressed at times. I don't listen to Pink Floyd much anymore because of that. Watching you listen to these for the first time however, reminds me of how I felt the first time I listened. It helps me remember the beauty and virtuosity of their music again without the ties to my teenage years and the missed opportunities that I regretfully hold on to... Keep on listening brother! Although I can't wait for you to react to more Pink Floyd, "Wish You Were Here" specifically, I would encourage you to listen to Led Zeppelin 4 from start (Black Dog) to finish (When the Levee Breaks), to give you a taste of another legendary Rock Group. This would also allow Pink Floyd's music to "marinate" when you come back to the Floyd and do your reaction. Then again you can't go wrong with any of Led Zeppelin's albums. Well done sir!

I suggest Wish You Were Here. If your inclined to their earlier works, when The Lunatic himself Syd Barret played. I'd suggest "Meddle". Be warned, it's quite experimental for it's time. But, it will give you an insight into the musical insanity of this band.
@EchoesDaBear
@EchoesDaBear 5 лет назад
Syd only played on the first album "The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn", with one song to him on "Saucerful Of Secrets" - Syd was long gone from the band (and from reality) by the time they recorded Meddle. That album is the perfect precursor to Dark Side, as it gives hints of what was to come, and certainly contains (IMHO) their best song ever, Echoes!! But to listen to Piper, with a VERY open mind, would be something to experience for Joey!

Not being rude but you're about six or eight albums out of sync with what you know. Relics...Ummagumma.. Dark Side.. Meddle.. Atom Heart Mother. (Inpo) All came after Syd and before WYWH. That's just studio albums. We got Obscured By Clouds and a couple more and "more". Fine to be wrong but I really struggle to see why an open mind is needed for Meddle. A musical insight to the insanity of Pink Floyd. Mmmm. Never heard Meddle decsribed that way before. Also...harsh word to use for Syd. Disturbed or broken or clinically depressed maybe. But lunatic? Far from it.

You can't just listen to the wall, you have to WATCH it. It's one of the most epic recorded albums of the time, but also, one of the most insane films ever made. Also, I hope you listen to all these albums on your own, alone, without any distractions or reactions, because they are like acid for your ears. You can just transport yourself away to a quadrophonic dimension for an hour, and you'll come back changed.

Joey, you brought me back to 1973, when It seems like so much good music was always playing in every ones home I would go to. I was at a friends house with headphones on listing to Ziggy Stardust, when some one came in with a new LP - Dark Side of the Moon!! I put the LP on, still with the headphones blasting, and was mesmerized!! I fell in Love with this LP. I, like you, at times, had no words to describe what I was listening to. Thank you so much for taking me back tp that awesome memory :)

The greatest section of music ever written for me.. you should react to the acoustic version of Brain Damage performed by the lead singer Roger Waters... also the next album if you are going in order is called Wish You Were Here 👌👌👌

Love watching you loving the music. I'm getting to go back in time, and in some songs I'm finally hearing the lyrics for the first time. You make my day. As long as you play and listen to the songs I'll be there. 😎

A good follow up to Final Cut, which sort of follows on from the Wall, in my opinion, is Roger Waters Amused to Death.

@ Joey Reacts My dad was an enormous pink floyd fan he played their music all the time. it was literally the soundtrack to my life. we lost him two years this december and his coffin went down to these two songs braindamage and eclipse together exactly as you listened to them. seeing you enjoy them and feel them as much as he did really choked me up man. thankyou, i know he is smiling at us both right now.
