I am 67 years old and a long time Pink Floyd fan, and I can vouch for the fact that the message in this song takes on a greater meaning the older you get.

There is a reason that this album spent 18 years in the Bilboard charts. It's timeless.

This is usually the song where newer listeners to Pink Floyd realize that David Gilmour isn't your typical lead guitarist. His playing, as revealed so clearly in this soaring, masterful solo, is full of emotion, passion and otherworldly skill. Y'all need to check out his solo work as well. His guitar work on those albums is beyond compare.

This album is one of the most musically well-composed albums ever and should be listened in its entirety. Us and Them has a very gentle, but sexy vibe. The saxophone is a great introduction to the song.

After listening to this album over the span of nearly 45 years, the lyrics to this song especially hits me in a more complex way...I understand now, about the "moments that make up a dull day as we fritter and waste our hours in an off hand way."

This is off probably the greatest album of all time and you need to do the whole album.

This is really about how time is fleeting. When we're young we feel like it's slow and we have all the time in the world and then, you wake up one day and realize 10 years are gone and you haven't really done anything. So you try to catch up, but every year just seems to get shorter and shorter until just like that it's over - "the song is over. Thought I'd something more to say."

The Pink Floyd albums, beginning with this--The Dark Side of the Moon--album were recorded to be listened to continuously fist cut to last. For that reason many of the songs run into the nest cut. Also, in this song, the last portion of this track (after the line "Wish I had something more to say" is a reprise of the earlier cut on the album, "Breathe." For me, this song really emphasizes the power of spacing in music...lot's of air between the drum riffs...a brilliant use of "time" in the music.

This album is #1 when it comes to the Billboard list, no other album comes close. It is on the top 20 list of best selling vinyl records of all time. This is an album I would get "high" to with my headphones on, and just go to another place, that is the power of this entire album and Pink Floyd. You are only listening to a tiny portion of what this entire album is all about.. You definitely need to sit back, the two of you split a nice bottle of wine, either get a vinyl copy, or a remastered CD of this album, put it on a nice sound system and thoroughly enjoy.

My favorite by Pink Floyd is "Wish You Were Here", even at 57, it still brings a tear to my eye. It has a special meaning, the same but slightly different, for everyone who appreciates it.

Most Pink Floyd albums were recorded in such a way that each song blends directly into the next one. To get the best “vibe” they need to be listened to continuously, first song to last, no skipping tracks. I think my favorite lyrics from the song are: “And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death”, so profound and lyrically perfectly expressed by guys in their mid-late 20’s.

It has crossed my mind that, you are talking about the music, the instruments and the vocals BUT, not so much about the lyrics. It was the same for me, in the beginning and then . . . . . I listened to the lyrics. GAME CHANGER !

This album came out in 73’ , I was 13 ..50 yrs listening to this album , I recommend you take the time and listen to it properly which is non stop , enjoy !

My views of the meaning of the lyrics of this song (based on many different people's interpretation) are: The initial clock blast signifies birth of a newborn and explosion of a new life. The subsequent musical entry has the heartbeat strengthening and speeding up to show the vigor of childhood. It then goes into the lyrics which shows that teenagers have no concept of time and thereby waste it doing frivolous stuff. They then reach middle age and the heartbeat slows and there is the recognition that time is going by and that the clock may run out before you have achieved anything of significance. And finally as an old man sitting by the fire place awaiting death (and the tolling of the iron bell) signifying the funeral for him after he died. I find the treatment of the accompanying music and changes of timing within it, match perfectly with the typical human existence from the exuberance of youth to the regrets of old age. A testament to the musical and lyrical genius of Pink Floyd!

The lyrics are half the experience to any Floyd song!!! I'm in my 60s loved Floyd since 68 and I'm still catching meanings in phrases.

The crowd is just full of us 'old dudes' I'm 69 and first listened to Pink Floyd in 1968 when I was 14 (Atom heart mother). You will find if you listen to the album in it's entirety the songs flow together in a theme. 'Darkside of the moon' is from birth to death. You missed the heartbeat that is hidden in every song on the album. Your just starting out so enjoy the ride.

The first time I heard Dark Side of the moon it was 1974, with four other friends in a small apartment in Sacramento the room was dark except for a blacklight and lava lamp (I know stereotypical) had just shared two joints and on went the album, I won't say it was a life changer but it definitely an eye opener as to what music could be at least for me.

I got to see Pink Floyd in the Cleveland Stadium in 1977. 88,000 tickets sold and most showed up. What a great night that was! Oh! and it was only $13/ticket.

It is indeed like a rock orchestra. In the fact the entire album is like a symphony with various movements, not individual songs. Each track flows into the next one without a break. There is a reason this is one of THE top selling albums of all time, it is pure musical and lyrical genius. You must listen to the whole album from start to finish. The track before this is highly unnerving and electronic, and depicts a nightmare about crashing in a plane, and as the sound of that explosion dies, those alarm clocks wake you up from the nightmare. Then after this track is an incredible depiction of facing death - in stages, disbelief, anger, depression and finally acceptance. No words, only an incredible human voice used like an instrument . You really should listen to it next. (The Great Gig in the Sky)

I've listened to this song since I was in my teens but it wasn't until I was in my late 40's that the message behind the song (time is fleeting/ life is short) really hit home.

The lyrics are masterful. Without question one of the greatest songs ever written. you need to re-listen to it.

Yeah, Pink Floyd's songs all have a deep meaning and because first time listeners are so in Ahh of the music they don't really catch the meaning of the song. You should definitely pay attention to the lyrics and for sure they can all mean something different to everyone. It's totally diffrent than anything you have ever heard but I promise you it'll blow your mind. i had my 64th birthday last saturday 23/07/23 life long Floyd fan , and i can assure all of you that yes " every year is getting shorter "

The next song after this one on the album, "The Great Gig in the Sky" is the only song _EVER_ that makes me cry every single time. You owe it to yourself to hear the original studio version. There are live versions out there, but they all pale in comparison to the original.

Other bands come and go, but there is always Pink Floyd. They are timeless.

Pink Floyd is really a genre unto themselves. I will say, the strangest, most peculiarly odd yet strangely mind boggling song I have ever heard is a Pink Floyd experiment. From the Ummagumma double album, the song Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict is one that needs to be heard to be believed. Might be worth a reaction.

You have to listen to this album from beginning to end in a dark room with your eyes closed. You really can't pluck a song out of the album and listen to it on it's own You really need to listen to this album without interruption. That's the way the album was produced and therefore to get the full effect you need to listen to it as a whole and not just individual songs.

I’ve been listening to this song for over 40 years, when I was a kid it was a good song but now that I’m 50 it’s one that will make me break down and cry when I’m in the right mood for it. This is a song about how short life is, how quickly it passes you buy until time is gone and it’s all over. This song is great instrumental. However, it’s the lyrics that are really important, Pink Floyd’s lyrics are very important to the song overall.

Love you guys' reactions. Fun little fact that no one may have yet mentioned to you: Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon album spent 724 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Magazine Top 200 albums charts, from March of '73 through the last week of April of '88.

Wish You Were Here is another great song. I love the live version, but I recommend listening to the studio first so that you can be extra amazed when you watch the live.

Lyrics and heart beat - so important as well!

After listening to this song for 40 years I've come to think it's greatest song ever wrote. It hits me differently now then it did at 35. It hit me differently at 25 then it did at 35 and 15. The song is timeless. It never gets old. It is as relevant today as it was in 1972. It will be as relevant in 300 years as it is today. Is there another song like it?.... Not that I know of.

So firstly, it makes me so happy to see people from a younger generation genuinely enjoying music before their time. It’s so cool. If you want suggestions, just listen to the whole album. It’s only about 40 mins long but it’s, rightly, a masterpiece. One of the best engineered, produced, composed, arranged, played, sung, and presented albums of all time. It stayed on the top 100 billboard charts for 14 years, which I think says a lot! So lovely and heartwarming to see you guys reacting to classic music.

With pink Floyd the lyrics give you the message and the music gives you time to digest them before the next lyrics. This about life and how you time is relentless don't waste it. This leads directly into the great gig in the sky which is the turmoil and exceptance of death. Legendary song.

Floyd was the first concert I ever saw. In 1973. It was their Dark Side Of The Moon Tour. I was 13. My hippie, stoner brother took me to see them. It changed my life and made want to be a musician, which I still am today---50 years later. Classic band and there will not be another one like them. I saw them twice more, their Wish You Were Here Tour and their Animals Tour. My teen years during the 70's was a fantastic musical landscape and I was fortunate to traverse its peaks and valleys. Nice reaction guys.

I never get tired of hearing this song (or this album). The artistry in it will help it endure over time (no pun intended). You are right to point out the keyboard: David Gilmour is rightly praised for his guitar work, but Richard Wright's keyboards and vocals (on the slower parts) each contribute to the power of the song. Don't sleep on Nick Mason's drumming; his brilliance is in the empty space he leaves while maintaining fitting rhythms. Roger Waters' lyrics (and, yes, his bass playing) deserve respect also. Then there's the entire production of this album: Alan Parsons' engineering is hard to top, and Storm Thorgerson's and Hipgnosis' visual designs for the album were just right. I hope you get around to other PF material on your own time (again, no pun intended). Thank you for this!

One of my favorites!

This was my end of the night winding down album back in 75 and 76. I would get home around midnight or one and have to get up at 5 to get ready for work and I would put this in my 8 track player in my car with my headphones and listen to it until I was ready to sleep. Yes, I put a headphone jack in my car in 1975. It is hard to listen to on here one song at a time because the album is set up where one song flows right into the next. Great relaxation when you need to turn down the energy.

Pink Floyd lets the music breath. That is something you do not hear today......the beginning is very trippy. They are the perfect blend of bluesy, psychedelic rock with prog.

Any track From the Pulse concert is absolutely amazing. Too hear these tracks live....PF outdid themselves with this tour in 1994. Best concert I've ever attended!!

IMO, the greatest song from the greatest album of all-time. But as others have said, DSOTM is best experienced in whole, rather than with individual songs. It's like a great movie. Yeah, individual scenes are awesome, but there's no substitute for watching from start to finish. This is not a criticism, BTW, I loved your reaction! 🤟

As MANY will tell you in these comments, the best way to experience Pink Floyd, and especially this album the Dark Side Of The Moon, is the listen to the entire album from start to finish. In fact Dark Side is not a collection of songs. It's one cohesive peiece of music from start to finish, which is why it's best to experience the whole album in one sitting. To put it simply, I believe it's the best album in rock history. It spent an astounding 736 weeks on the Billboard album charts. That's over 14 years on the chart!

I bought a copy of DSotM in vinyl when it was first released and I've been a fan ever since, god knows how many copies I've bought since but I still listen to it now and enjoy every time, I always remember my first Floyd concert in Edinburgh when they started with the moon and finished with wish you were here, Animals lyrics are more relevant today than when that album was released, when Roger Dave Nick and Rick reunited for a reunion in Hyde park I was there and I couldn't stop the tears falling from my eyes it was a great moment to behold, Floyd were the best and they remain the best ever in my life, I'm 67 going on 68

"Dark Side of the Moon" is one of the first "Concept Albums." It's not a collection of songs, it's an audio movie. You need to listen to it start-to-finish to get the whole experience. Preferably in a dark room, doing nothing but listening. There's a reason it stayed on the album charts for most of its 50-year life.
