“Cool Cat” was co-written and recorded by Freddie and John only - Freddie on voice and electronic keyboards, with John playing *all* the other instruments ( guitars, synths and drum machine)
Freddie mercury got a sick voice when I heard this before I found out Queen sung it I thought it was a woman singing the song which tell you the serious vocal abilities of Freddie (R.I.P.) omg the whole energy and vibe is cold blooded.
Freddie had so many different voices it's crazy what he could do! This doesn't even sound like Queen yet it does sound just like what they would do. Deaky deserves much more credit than he ever got. I love that Freddie and Queen were not stuck into one type of music. They definitely are not boring.....
ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE SONGS! I always think of it as the "Freddie & John Friendship Song" (since it was just the two of them recording it all, without Roger & Brian). ;D
The first time I heard it a few weeks ago in a commercial, I had to listen to the whole song. I'm still love this song. I listen to this song every day.
There's no genre that Queen can't do, there's no style that Freddie can't sing. This is the phenomenon of Queen that unites all music lovers. Thanks for the great reaction. It made my day better than ever.
Don't beat yourself up too badly 'bout 'cos tbf, many fans were just following what they were told by their local radio DJs at that time. It was decided that DISCO had to go 'n sadly by the time Hot Space was being promoted, Bri 'n Rog wasn't too kind callin' it their DISCO LP at the same time. Shame too as there really is only one song that falls into the DISCO category 'n that's "Back Chat." "Body Language" was more club/house than DISCO; "Staying Power" was R'NB/Funk; "Cool Cat" definitely R'NB/Soul. The other songs were either pop rock, new wave rock, or pop Latin. I agree that it was unfortunate that Hot Space was dropped at the wrong time. The back lash was devastating to Deacy so Freddie stepped-up to take the brunt of the criticism for the LP's bad reviews. This gave Bri 'n Rog the ammo to put Freddie 'n Deacy back in check so they could return putting out more of their warehouse: 'pop rock.'
This is one of my favorite albums because it is so different from their other music. Name one other band that could do what Queen did........I don't think there is another band as versatile as Queen was. And they were not afraid to try anything different from the usual music. Freddie said he did not want to be boring, and he sure isn't.
Freddie was a very eclectic musician, he loved all music genres from Jimi Hendrix to Shirley Bassey, Elvis, Beatles, opera, jazz, etc. All 4 of them had the skills in writing music, lyrics and each band member's taste was different, but they were working together on the personal ideas. Pls, check out the Seaside Randezvous for another very different vibe.
My husband fell in love with this song. Brian May and Roger Taylor hated the song and didn’t even play on the track, this is Freddie and John ( bass player)
Ok my friend you liked COOL CAT well try out the song MY MELANCHOLY BLUES. It was written by FREDDIE. I know you will absolutely love it. I prefer the lyric video but that's my choice. There is a live version of that song in Houston in 1977. Thank you for doing QUEEN videos. Take care and have a good day. Your friend, QUEEN BEE 🐝🐝🐝🐝
Great reaction, this song has been out 40+ years...never heard it til a week ago.... this song is fire... I didn't think it was queen... so funky and mello... love it.
There are so many incredible Queen songs that it would be impossible to name my top 30. But, I've been in the mood to hear In The Lap Of The Gods, and In The Lap Of The Gods (Revisited). Both are beautiful and also incredibly different. Make sure you check out the live versions. Great reaction to another underrated Queen song.
A lot of people don’t like Hot Space, which is the album this track is from. I love it. It’s very unlike anything Queen had done before or since. For more classic rock I would recommend It’s Late or Now I’m Here. Yet another side to Queen (compared with this and Another One Bites The Dust).
That Amazon Prime commercial was just on while playing this. I would have never guessed this was Queen. I need to put it on my music list. It'll be great while riding my motorcycle.
Yes that would be good if you do please react to the whole thing as Dragon Attack is the middle part of a medley starts with Now I’m Here then Dragon Attack then back into Now I’m Here it’s brilliant x
There is a cappella demo with David Bowie doing backing vocals. Before it was released Bowie requested his vocals to be removed! Written by Freddie & John Deacon for the album Hot Space!! Freddie sings in falsetto the entire song!! Freddie & MJ were friends so they did a couple demos together called THERE MUSTBE MORE TO LIFE THAN THIS & STATE OF SHOCK! 💯💥
very few singers can or will sing an entire song in falsetto--this is not just hitting one note in falsetto which some people are impressed with. Freddie could jump from falsetto to normal speaking voice and back to falsetto like this song, and Killer Queen, without any in-between notes to work his way up or down the scale. He just did it with ease, a uniqueness or attribute he is famous for.
That was my big Wish😍Your Reaction is so great.Cool Cat gives inner Peace and makes happy.I'm happy that you loved the Song too.Queen is🔥❤👨👑🎤😊Please check out You take my Breath away. This touches so deep in the Heart.Enjoy it..😊Greetings from Germany..
Dreamer's Ball, live in Paris 1979 is another "different vibe" song. Freddie takes us to New Orleans with this one, and Roger and Brian do some of the backing instruments by humming the sounds.
Yo if I could have liked this reaction video a million times I would have. It's the first reaction video I've ever liked cuz I had the same reaction the other day when I first heard this, same goofy smile on my face, trying to dance while my daughter's made fun of me for it but it's all in good fun. Thanks man I appreciate this video 🤘🏼
Great reaction! If you would like to listen to another very soulful song you need to try out "Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe Golden Boy Live at La Nit 1988" you will be pleasantly pleased.
The Hot Space album wasnt well received, but it has some really good songs on it. I think ppl at the time just didnt feel it was up to usual greatness of Queen
They failed to recognize how great Queen really was, and they dared to do something different, unexpected yet still great. Definitely not a boring group of musicians which Freddie did not want to be boring.
