I could be Wrong but what i've Read about the Song is it's Written about Rens Fear of Losing His Girlfriend at the Time Bibi, and Losing his Mind because his illness was at its worst and still undiagnosed, the final verse was Ren alone fighting his Psychosis and Feeling Bibi slip away from him. Bibi did not sing that final verse, the desperate one. That was Ren's voice. I just listened to it again and I only hear Ren. I find this song the most emotional. Loved your reaction. The absence of Bibi is Ren's fear of abandonment. That's my view anyway.

Ren wrote this when pretty much in the throes of a nervous breakdown. You can see how painfully ill he was, and he was afraid that if he lost his mind he would lose her too. Ultimately they did split up, but not before she had helped him back up onto his feet. (Literally as, well as in the video. She started the first fundraiser to help get him treatment because he couldn't face asking people for money himself.)
This says to me that Bibi was with him as long as she could but couldn't help him when he lost control of his mind it got to hard for her to see him in pain so she had to walk away (just how i see it )
Most people don't stick around when you lose your mind or slip into deep depression. Either it is too much for the lover or you get pushed away. This was PERFECT
Ren posted once that this song was about the insecurity he felt after being so sick, and losing so much weight, worried that his girlfriend would leave him because of it.

Ren and Bibi (Lea-Ding) used to be in a relationship which makes this so much more personal and tragic......she is an amazing tattoo artist and singer!
Catching up on your Ren week reactions, I enjoy your energy! This song always breaks me, you can just hear the pain in his voice. Some have mentioned his commentary on what this song means but I didn't see anyone mention that you can find his words in the description of the video- it's worth a read!

Ren said (in a commentary) that this was about his fear that his illness would drive everyone away, make him unlovable. (He wrote this before he was diagnosed with Lyme's and thought he was losing his mind.) When I first watched I wondered if she was even meant to be real or if she was a delusion. Either way she got him up, helped him to his feet. What I love about Ren's music is everyone can take what they relate to from it. It hits on so many different levels.
Loving Ren week, your reactions are great 😁 My take on it is at the start when the musics calmer (Rens in a more stable place) Bibi thinks she can be there for him and support him. When the music picks up after her verse it represents Ren less stable, more manic and bibi couldn’t cope so by the end of the verse she’s gone, she didn’t stick around. Such an amazing song and video
Loving that hair Taylor - great reaction. Not my favourite song tbh - brilliant but painful - lost my brother (my partner in crime) to suicide many years ago. We learn to live with it but the pain is always present.

She says she'll stay with him when he is struggling but hasn't lost his mind and then the second half of the song hits when things actually get chaotic and insane for him and when he looks up she is gone. At least that's how I read it.
Great reaction! Like good art, I love how much one's personal experience brings out their own interpretation of many of Ren's songs. Like this one, Chalk Outlines brings it out of people. I'm watching this on the heels of watching Money Game 3, and it's interesting how people interpret the very, very end. Love Ren.

fun part of the end of the song is that the guitar hits notes that are "wrong" for the key and mode that the song is in. It gives the listener a really uneasy feeling because they know it isn't right.

I see this piece of music as Bibi couldn't take it anymore. I have the impression that they have been through hell together. But as I see it, standing in it as "the other party" must feel like the ultimate helplessness
This particular video of crutch was uploaded to RU-vid on 6th of May 2016 and in the description Ren says that the video was filmed on a very cold night in October of 2015. Bibi and Ren were very much together when the video was released judging by the interview Bibi gives which was made public on the 24th of May 2016. I think the song and video expresses the difficulties of being in a relationship with someone who is having these sorts of problems. How draining that can be on the person who is supporting the other through very bad times. It was beautiful but not surprising I think for Ren that he was empathic enough to see how difficult it was for her also and it was either his worse fears or maybe a sense of what was to come in their relationship. Like with everything that Ren does, it was no accident that he appears to be alone right at the end of the video. The video could also be a message that even with support we are ultimately alone in our pain when no one else can really take that away for us. We don’t know exactly why they split - it could have been his decision, who knows?

he made this song when he went through a mental break down i think he was portraying that his medications made his mental state worse and she had to leave for the sake of her own mental health he was misdiagnosed and told it was all in his head when it turned out to be Lyme disease
it is kind of like Ren's story. He was loosing his mind during the time he was mis-diagnosed with the Lyme Disease. So he was suffering his brain damage and Psychosis. So he was hallucinating the girl being there.

The Ren fans who are rabid about how he’s “disabled” or “ill” will overwhelm your comments. Ren is beyond talented. BEYOND. But he’s not sick. He no longer has Lyme and the treatment he’s getting in Canada is not an approved Lyme treatment. In fact, Canadian tax payers are paying in part for his housing (which is a high rise apartment in downtown Calgary). Talented? ABSOLUTELY. GRIFTER? Also yes.
