This is a Aerosmith song from the 70's. They had been out of the limelight for a while and this is what brought them back to popularity.
@ChickCiccarelli
@ChickCiccarelli Год назад
Def Jam Records cofounder Rick Rubin, wanted to see Run-DMC reach the kind of suburban rock-obsessed teen he once had been. He suggested to the group's three members that they cover a 1975 Aerosmith hit that they'd been sampling. The new version of "Walk This Way" (Released July 4, 1986) became the first rap song to be played on mainstream rock radio. It also revived Aerosmith's career.

This song was originally an Aerosmith song. I believe it was producer Rick Ruben who came up with the collaboration of Aerosmith and Run DMC. It started a whole new crossover genre and jump started a new beginning for Aerosmith who were all finally clean & sober. Aerosmith is starting their farewell tour this year... 50 years!

You should also check out the original Walk This Way by Aerosmith. You might be surprised to hear that this version is almost exactly like the original...the beat, the lyrics, Steven Tyler's singing, the guitars, all the same. The difference is the added scratching & rapping by Run DMC of the original lyrics. The chorus sung by Tyler is more 80s, screaming style, in the original it's softer & like an echo. This collaboration was massive for both groups, we watched this on MTV hourly, lol.

Cool reaction. History lesson: The collaboration between Run-DMC and Aerosmith on the song "Walk This Way" in 1986 was a groundbreaking fusion of rap and rock music. The remake of Aerosmith's older rock song with Run-DMC's hip-hop style helped bridge the gap between the two genres. The song's success revitalized Aerosmith's career and introduced Run-DMC to a wider audience. "Walk This Way" became a chart-topping hit, breaking barriers and bringing rap music into the mainstream. This collaboration remains a pivotal moment in music history.

Aerosmith (the boys from Boston) recorded this song in the 70's. It was pitched to Run DMC that they do this colab. They were less than enthused until they heard Stephen Tyler rapping, and realized they were being shown up by a white guy. They got serious after that, the song was a HUGE hit, and revived Aerosmith's tired career. At the time, I was a Run DMC fan, and didn't know about Aerosmith. Now they're one of my favorite bands. I grew up in the 80's just outside of Boston, so I'm totally biased. lol

When this came out, Aerosmith had been one of the top classic rock groups of all time, but older now and in a lull. Run DMC was hittin it in the rap world, but just in the rap world. They put these two together, and BAM, Aerosmith launched themselves on a whole new generation and became bigger than they ever were, and Run DMC broke out of the rap world to a huge new audience that never knew them, and became huge, bigger than they ever were up to that point. This music video burst onto the scene and just blew everyone away. On tv's everywhere, the radio everwhere, on stage at the grammys, the oscars, it was a collaboration no one ever did before, and it just blew things up! Timeless stuff, man! Great stuff! Run DMC and Aerosmith both needed a hit at the time! Aerosmith actually released this song several years earlier without RUN DMC And it was obviously a hit but they kinda disappeared for a little while and got clean and the genius Rick Rubin came up with the idea of this collaboration which massively boosted RUN DMC's careers and their record sales and at the same time reminded us all how great Aerosmith is.I believe this was 1986 and in 1987 Aerosmith released permanent Vacation which had at least 3 or 4 #1 hits on it and the rest was history. RIP Darren McDaniel from RUN DMC who was gunned down and murdered right at the studio. I hope they caught the POS and made sure he's either spending the rest of his life in prison or on death row!!! And I'm not talking about Death row records. God Bless his soul because the group retired immediately! And And hats off to the group for calling it quits. You see a lot of other groups replace a fallen member! Respect to the one and only RUN DMC and Aerosmith for helping them get the air time on the radio that they so deserved!!!

Aerosmith had a hit with their version of "Walk This Way" back in the mid-1970's, and they were one of the biggest bands in the land back then. But they had "issues", and went into a decline in the late 70's and early 80's. Producer Rick Rubin is the catalyst for this collaboration, and deserves much credit for reviving Aerosmith's career. Run-DMC were one of the first big Rap Groups out of NYC, Hollis, Queens to be exact, and had a hit with "Kings Of Rock" before "Walk This Way" came along. This song helped both groups reach a wider audience, and propelled their careers straight up the charts. .

This is an Aerosmith song that was good long before Run DNC did this colaboration. Aerosmith is an awesome band that has been around since the early 70's.

Run DMC were huge in the 80s. Here is how this collab happened. Aerosmith was huge in the 70s but had gotten so strung out on drugs they couldn't even remember their own songs. After getting clean they were having trouble even getting anyone to listen to any new music they did. One day, Run DMC was in the studio waiting their turn to record, and one of them was listening to Aerosmith. Their producer also happened to be the producer for Aerosmith and suggested a collaboration of this Aerosmith song. Both sides had to be talked into it, but eventually it happened. It turned alot of blacks onto rock music, alot of whites, like me, onto rap, and Steven Tyler, the lead singer of Aerosmith says even today, Run DMC is his favorite Hip Hop group because of this song saving his bands career

I'm a 54 year old white guy from Australia. I hated rap when it first came out. I saw this when it premiered on MTV. I knew Aerosmith so I gave it a chance. My reaction was similar to yours. Still not a fan of rap as a genre, but I do have favourite rap songs & a couple of rap artists as my favourite artists. All because of Run DMC & this song

Dude, you gotta get on this. It was 1975!! The year I graduated HIGH SCHOOL. I love that. The guy in the middle is Stephen Tyler. If you saw Lord of the Rings, his daughter played Arwen. Aerosmith is a fantastic band, go listen to more. He's now in his 70's and still rockin.

Collaborations were in vogue in the late 80's along with this song from memory there was Chubby Checker and The Fat Boys, Eddie Money & Ronnie Spector, The Pet Shop Boys & Dusty Springfield and maybe others that I forgot about. But those example given were between 1986 to 1988.
