This is actually an Aerosmith song. run DMC collaborated with Aerosmith. This song revived Aerosmiths career. Run DMC stands for Devastating Mic Controller Cheers 🍻
This song helped Aerosmith get back in the limelight, but getting clean (for a while at least) and getting the original lineup back together did more to revive the band's career. They were already the real deal before this, and are still together today, long after Run DMC (whom I like very much) broke up.
I'm not going to say you're wrong saying that DMC stands for Devastating Mic Controller, but one of the founding members of Run DMC was a guy whose stage name was DMC before he helped form the band. And his real name is Darryl McDaniels, so the D of Darryl and M & C of Mc might've had a part to play.
But you're definitely right that Run DMC was instrumental in reviving Aerosmith's stalled career. Don't get me wrong, although I like them both, I'm more of an Aerosmith fan and they were a bigger, more successful band by far. But even Steven Tyler admits they would've remained firmly in the wilderness if Run DMC hadn't come along and kicked them back into the charts.
Now you should check out the original "Walk this Way" by Aerosmith. So many thought this was a Run DMC song but it was actually Aerosmith. This collaboration was huge at the time bc it was the first time a rock group & rap group came together!
No one at the time thought that; everyone knew this was an old Aerosmith song; ALSO rap started out (and is a lot of times still) done over sampling others music. I heard the bass line (first couple bars) was very popular at the time to rap over; so the rap community at the time was already familiar with that as well. Run DMC was sampling this song and a producer got the collab idea and this happened.
The real genius behind this collaboration was Producer Rick Rubin, who brought Aerosmith and RUN-DMC together in the studio to create the first Rock/Rap crossbreed hit. A-smith had hit a lull in their career, and RUN-DMC were on the verge of breaking out on their own. This performance helped both bands reach new audiences, and gave their careers a BIG effing boost.
Growing up as a kid in the 70's "Aerosmith" ruled. When they did their tune with Run DMC they opened the doors. I think you would really get "Aerosmith" by listening to "Dream On" Live 1976 or 1978. That tune "Steven Tyler" wrote at only 14 yrs old. You'll get why I put his age when you hear some of the lyrics. It was like he saw it all years before it happened. The other ground braking "Duo" is "Anthrax & Public Enemy" - "Bring The Noise" Anthrax is/was "Thrash Metal" so, that was even more unexpected. Super Fun Reaction! ✌
RUN stands for Rev Run (aka Joseph Simmons) and DMC stands for Darryl McDaniels. This was an incredible song & it hit so well when it first was offered. It was to let people know that rap & rock can actually go together. Thanks for sharing.
Music was much more segregated with rock and rap being separate genres, but there shouldn’t be barriers, not by style or race. This video was the first to promote this idea, and what’s clever is they burst through a literal wall to demonstrate it.
An Aerosmith song, Dream On, is also the chorus of Eminem’s Sing For the Moment. Steven Tyler, Aerosmith’s lead singer performed with Eminem during his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. The history of Aerosmith and rap started here, with Run D.M.C.
Eminem used "Sing For The Moment" which is Aerosmith's song also. Steven sang the chorus for him at his Rock & Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony. Ironically, it was Eminem that inducted Run-D.M.C. into the RRHOF. Rock & Rap go hand in hand.
No, they don't have him rapping; they are rapping an Aerosmith song and Steven Tyler joining in on the chorus. I understand at the beginnings of rap that this particular song bass line - first few bars - was very popular to rap over. Rick Ruben got the idea to remake the song and the collab happened. But this was already an Aerosmith song that Run DMC was sampling and the producer got an idea to do this and history was made.
please do the areosmith video trilogy in this order 1.cryin 2.amazing 3.crazy.they star actresses alica silverstone and liv tyler lead singer steve tyler's daughter.
The heaviest are from anthrax/Public Enemy on Bring Da Noize but the most consistent and deep catalog from a band is from Ice T and his metal bodycount Best song is Talk Shit Get Shot or Black Hoodie
Fever by Aerosmith is one of my favorite songs that is not one of the famous hits! Aerosmith has another rap collab which is Sing for The Moment by Eminem which samples Dream On and the two Aerosmith members you saw on this video perform on the track.
