By request, this is our to Wasted Time by Skidrow. This is the first time Alexis has reacted to a Skid Row song and she loved it! Wasted time is such a special song and it is Burch's favorite from SR. The is song is about Sebastian Bach's friend and Guns & Roses drummer, Steven Adler and Steven's drug addiction that eventually got him thrown out of of G&R. Alexis and Burch discuss this metal classic and the impacts of substance abuse.

Skid Row's "Slave To The Grind" is one of the most underrated albums from the end of the metal era in the early 90's. While their first album had the breakout hits, "Slave To The Grind" was a banger from start to finish that still holds up to this day. Love that you're doing this amazing track.

True story. I bought this CD the day it came out. Monkey Business is a fantastic song. Wasted Time hits you on an emotional level every single time. Burch, I don’t know if you explained to Alexis the metaphor of ‘Horse stampedes & rages’. A lot of younger people don’t know that Horse was/is a euphemism for Heroin. Great reaction. And giving the backstory puts some of what’s to come into context. A lot of reaction channels like to go into a new song 100% cold, which is fine for a strictly ‘organic’ reaction… but frequently many songs need at least a little backstory as a reference point. Sometimes the ‘reactors’ might misinterpret the meaning behind the lyrics, which kinda sets them Off in the wrong direction. I don’t know where you’re located Burch, but I know we could spend hours at the bar talking 80’s ‘Rock n Roll’ and I would never get bored with your stories.

This song is by far the most personal, powerful song I have ever heard. My bestfriend from Jr high was a heroin addict. Went away in 9th grade for help and was clean for awhile. We had so much fun and I loved our friendship. Then he slipped and kept slipping. I had to step back for my own sanity. A friend and I got together to talk about an intervention, but he didn't make it, a couple days later he overdosed. The line that always makes me tear up is, "where's my friend I used to know". I get mad at myself for not stepping in sooner. I feel Sebastian's pain in this. Guilt, sadness, anger. My friend has been gone over 20 years, but I still feel those emotions. And then on top of that I work at a psychiatric and substance abuse center for the past 20 years. I see people fighting these demons every day.
@MetalMcfly
@MetalMcfly Год назад
Just want to say I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I too feel this pain. I lost my daughter to heroin in 2015. She was 24yrs old. We tried everything to get her help but in the end, nothing would've worked because she simply didn't want the help. I'm sorry you carry this burden of guilt but please know, unless he wanted to get clean, an intervention would have just been a band aid that eventually would have been torn off. I know it hurts but sometimes there are things that are truly out of our control. I wish for your heart to heal, your pain to subside and nothing but the best for you. Take care.

@@kennethfinnegan2978 I live outside of Dallas, Texas. Heroin was really bad around here. This was in the 90s. We had an older friend that got him into it at a pretty young age.. Rolling Stone magazine even did an article about it called, "Texas Heroin Massacre". My friends death is the last death mentioned in the article. A shame really. He played guitar, but gets mentioned in Rolling Stone for sticking a needle in his arm.

This is one of the MOST powerful songs of ALL time! Sebastian's vocals are off the chart. But the band behind him deserves kudos here as well. Rob Affuso(drummer) is KILLING that kit. Scotti Hill's(lead guitar) solo hits just right. Everybody involved in the production of this WHOLE album, in whatever capacity. Deserves to be applauded here. Slave To The Grind is an album that got overlooked by SO MANY. But more & more people are finding out, what us Skid Row fans knew all along. This album is PURE gold. In more ways than one. Enjoyed your reaction. Alexis, your insights are BANG ON. Keep up the GREAT work you 2! 🤘🤘🤘

Man! One of my all time favorites.. I could watch/listen to this song a million times, and when Sebastián is belting it out at the end, it brings a tear to my eye every time.. Being 50 and this was our generations prime time, I think a lot of us had a tight group of friends (because we actually spent meaningful heart to heart time together, *no cell phones and lots of eye contact) that went through this and can really relate..It did then, and it still does looking back.. I always had this song pinned to a certain friend that died from an overdose many years after the song was released, but I could see the path it was headed in and when this was released, I felt Sebastians pain and could relate, and unfortunately it came to fruition. A lot of us were probably right on the cusp of going either way, I know I was, and was lucky to make it out alive.. Great job, and I love watching Alexis articulate her perception, beautiful also ;)

Scotti's solo really soars here; three slow songs on "Slave To The Grind" which are darker than the typical love ballads of the time, most of which were for radio airplay. Forget about the harder tracks getting played (especially "GTFO") but Skid Row's plan for this album was to make a more aggressive record than the debut. They succeed!

It feels like he died 30 years ago. I'm no angel. I did my fair share. As a matter of fact, I was addicted to it long before he even tried it. But, the difference between me and him was will power. I have an abundance of it. If I decide to stop doing something, nothing on earth will stop me from accomplishing that. it's been a very lonely road without him. Miss him dearly.

Sabo and Hill's guitar tone in this era was on another level. They could channel the snarl and absolute filthy aggression while still pouring out enough emotion to hold up the song under the crushing weight of Bach's vocals. Vocals which will absolutely go down as some of the greatest rock vocals of all time, and certainly of the 80's and early 90's. His range and control, seamless transitions from clean to vocal fry (think "I'll Remember You) while nailing an A5 octave register are the stuff of legend. The combo of these three WAS Skid Row. Apart, none of them could re capture the magic they made on just 3 albums.

I got the privilege of seeing GnR on the appetite tour with motley & Adler was amazing on stage. He is still active playing with his own band, Adler's appetite. Of course they do the songs from that album. He's definitely not the same tho. Sad, but at least he's still with us

Such a great song off a really great album, Slave to the Grind. I love the first record so much having seen them live on that tour but they took such a harder edge into Slave to the Grind, it's just fantastic.

Wow as a huge Sid Row fan . Thanks for playing this video . I can relate to the song because my brother went down that road and I felt so helpless and angry. This song hit me like a sledge hammer. I kinda avoided this song since my brother's spiral but I needed this. Thanks keep rockin! 🤘

Do not mistake partying for addiction. Two different things. That is what fucks most people up. They mistake their addiction for just partying. Again, two completely different things.

Sebastian's pain is what your hearing... he's directly speaking to Steven in this video. There's no doubt in my mind. You can absolutely hear the emotion and really how deep the pain went. Absolutely a classic! Just a fantastic reaction video. Keep up the great work!🖤🤘

Welcome the incredible pipes of Sebastian Bach of Skid Row! Your reaction to his vocals is exactly how mine was as a teen in the late 80s/early 90s. Sebastian had the best vocals in Hard Rock imo and their songs had substance. Wasted Time was written about Steven Adler’s (former drummer of Guns n’ Roses) heroin addiction and was a personal plea by Sebastian to his friend who was battling that devastating drug. I had already bought and loved their debut album but when Wasted Time came out I rushed to go get their second album just to put that song on repeat. It soon became my favorite song of theirs for many reasons. Please also check out their songs Youth Gone Wild and Sweet Little Sister.

I saw Bach and Skid Row play multiple times during the height in the early 90s. My daughter died of fentanyl overdose at 17 yrs old and this song hits me every time. I feel the pain in this song. 😢

@@flickeringboxofficial I'm pretty selective. A couple I've followed for a while now. There's a few folks that have compilations of reactors that I enjoy as well. What they do is just different.
