People went silent as we were blown away. Later Eric Clapton heard Stevie and said he just moved from riff to riff without pause or thinking. Eric said he was in disbelief because even he himself had to pause. Eric almost quit playing guitar when he first heard Jimi Hendrix. Eric pulled his car over to listen to Stevie. When I heard on radio Stevie died in helicopter crash on radio I pulled over 90th and Blondo, Omaha, Nebraska and cried.
Yes. Someone I worked with at the time who knew I played guitar asked me if I heard about the crash, some famous guitar player had died, they thought it was Eric Clapton. I thought, wow, tragic, what a loss.... When I got home and heard more news about it, and they said it was Stevie....I wept, almost collapsed. I have admired many different guitar players of many styles for many different reasons, but nobody else like Stevie Ray. My eyes tear up typing this...really...still....
