In the history of the world there have been 180 billion people that have walked the planet. There is only ONE that can play the guitar like that.

That’s my pal!!!! ( It’s pronounced “Vawn”). Thank you for this reaction. I want you to know a few things about Stevie. He was basically self taught after some pointers from his big brother, Jimmie Vaughan. He spent every waking moment mastering his instrument. He never learned to read or write music down. He was dedicated to the Blues and the Blues masters, Albert King, BB King, Buddy Guy, Albert Collins and Lonnie Mack plus others. Jimi Hendrix was a huge influence as well. He always showed great respect for those who went before him. He was as humble as he was talented. He overcame a lifelong struggle with drugs and alcohol in 1986, and dedicated his life thereafter to helping others. He lived four more years after sobriety, knowing he’d been given a second chance at life, and that he was living on borrowed time. He made one last album with his band, Double Trouble, his first while sober, made a record with brother for the first time ever, got divorced then engaged to a woman who supported his sobriety, and began to learn to love himself. Stevie died in a helicopter crash in 1990, after stunning his audience and fellow musicians with a performance that made it hard for Eric Clapton, called the guitar God, to get on stage after him. He left this earth on top of his game and happy. It brings me so much joy to watch so many discovering his talent. Keep exploring his work. Put on your seatbelt. He was my hero growing up. I actually cried when he passed away in that helicopter crash.

I have noticed that all the truly great guitarists never play to a script they close their eyes and let the music take over. But it takes a god given gift to instantly play instantly and flawlessly what the music is telling you to play

Stevie is the GOAT, any genre, and this is the greatest use of a guitar I have heard in my 58 years. It is said that Stevie makes non-guitar players want to pick up the instrument and guitar players want to throw it down.

Stevie just tuning up his guitar was better than 95% of all other guitar players playing at their best.

This is still the greatest guitar performance I've ever seen. Seventeen years ago, when I bought the DVD of this concert, "Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble live at the El Mocambo," I read a review of it from someone who was actually there that night in person, and he said that after the concert he wanted to go home and smash his own collection of ten electric guitars, because unlike Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, who inspired him to play better, Stevie had the opposite affect on him---he was TOO good." I'll never forget reading that quote. By the way, Stevie was also a sweet and humble man; one would never have guessed that because of his on-stage swag. Anyway, there will never be another like him. Thank God for the legacy he left us!

Sadly I was at Stevie Ray Vaughn's last concert the night his helicopter crashed after the show at Alpine Valley Wisconsin August 26th 1990. The fog was so bad after the show that we stopped and got a hotel room on the way home. The lineup was SRV, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Stevie's brother Jimmie and Buddy Guy. RIP SRV!

Stevie Ray Vaughan was born in so Texas on October 3,1954, his brother Jimmie Vaughan who is 3yrs older than Stevie Ray got an electric guitar when he was about 10 years old. Jimmie is an amazing guitarist In his own right and had a band called The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Stevie Ray loved the electric guitar and would play it whenever Jimmie left the house .on October 3, 1961 Stevie Ray got a toy guitar for his 7th birthday with cowboys and Indians on it and even with a toy guitar Stevie Ray learned to play Wine, Wine, Wine and Thunderbird by The Night Caps. The first song he heard of the Blues was a Muddy Watters record and Stevie Ray said he knew he wanted to play the Blues. Stevie Ray not only played behind his back but he could play behind his head, backwards, tune his guitar while playing, adjust his AMP'S while playing one handed, a broken string, switch guitar in the middle of a solo and never missed a beat, play with his teeth and even used his elbow but he could play behind his back longer than anyone ever could. Stevie Ray's career only span 7 years but in that 7 yrs he left a huge mark in the music industry. It started in June 13,1983 with the release of his album Texas Flood, he won so many awards, on December 13,1983 Austin City Limits video was voted Guitar Player Magazine's Best New Talent, Best Electric Blues Guitar and Best Guitar Album with his Texas Flood album, Stevie Ray and Jeff Beck are the only 2 Triple Award Guitarist ever. On November 8,1984 Stevie Ray wins a W.C.Handy National Blues Award, Entertainer Of The Year, Instermental Of The Year, he was the only white person to win either. In 1982 Stevie Ray was the first musician to be inducted into The Austin Music Hall Of Fame, in 2000 Stevie Ray was inducted into The Blues Hall Of Fame and in 2015 he was inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Even with all the his amazing work he never lived to see a #1 hit, his only #1 hit came after his death with Crossfire written by Double Trouble I always thought that was really sad. This song Texas Flood was written by Larry Davis and Joseph Scott in 1955 when Joseph Scott was having relationship problems, Larry Davis recorded it in 1958, when Stevie Ray found out Larry Davis wasn't being paid any royalties Stevie Ray paid Larry Davis every dime out of his own pocket. On August 26,1990 Stevie Ray went to EastTroy Wisconsin to open 2 shows for Eric Clapton along with Robert Clay, Buddy Guy and Steve Ray's brother Jimmie Vaughan, both shows sold out both nights to 40,000 fans. Stevie Ray came down from his hotel room and told his brother and band mates he had a dream that he died and he was looking down at all these people crying, he said it was a little scary but he felt at peace Jimmie said in an interview. At the end of Eric Clapton's final show Eric asked them all to come back on stage and they performed Sweet Home Chicago by Robert Johnson, that was the last song Stevie Ray ever performed, he boarded a helicopter that crashed into the side of a mountain and everyone was killed instantly do to pilot error. The pilot had just failed his test to read gages on that helicopter and he never flew that kind of helicopter before or ever even flew at night.

He taught himself how to play. Buy listenin' to the Blues and Rock. He paid his dues. He got 1 inch holes in his fingers from playin 13 gage string's. Last 4 year's of his life he used 11 gage strings. Stievie didnt use strings he used telephone lines and the telephone was the guitar. He is what they call a trick guitar player. He played that guitar all kinds a ways. ❤He is my brother he is the greatest guitar player on the planet. Check out Stevie Ray 3rd stone form the sun. You think playin' behind his back is crazy. This song and what he does will blow your mind. 4 Real. ❤ chek out either at the El Mocambo or at the Festival. Awesome!

If you want to learn the guitar, look online for a local music shop, they will know people who can show you hand placement. SRV didnt read music his brother showed him and he just played with and learned from other guitarists, mostly Texas blues artists

Stevie Ray Vaughan .. Vaughan is pronounced and sounds like 'von'. The 'g' is silent. Anyway .. Stevie Ray was a self-taught guitar player starting at the age of 7. He NEVER took one lesson and he never learned to read music before his life was tragically and sadly cut short in a helicopter crash in 1990 at the age of 35. He idolized and had enormous respect for many blues/rock guitarists before him ie: Albert King, B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Guy, T-bone Walker, Albert Collins, Freddie King, Muddy Waters, Jimmie Vaughan and the list goes on. Stevie's Top 5 influences were B.B. King #2, Freddie King #3, Albert Collins #4 and Albert King #5 .. but it was blues guitarist and 'big brother' Jimmie Vaughan (3 yrs older) as his first and major influence to play guitar. Stevie would put the records of these and other artists on and play for hours every day learning their songs until he had them memorized. Both him and Jimmie were playing in Texas local bars, clubs and joints by the time each had turned 15 y/o. At 16, Stevie Ray eventually made the decision to drop out of HS, making music his priority and full-time job. SRV was considered the most prominent blues guitarist (and probably the youngest EVER!) responsible for revitalizing peoples love for the blues. Not only in Texas, but all over the nation and overseas. His bands name was Double Trouble .. Chris Layton on drums .. Tommy Shannon on bass .. and Stevie Ray Vaughan on lead/rhythm guitar and vocals. Their debut album was #Texas Flood and it was released in 1983. Tho his professional career was short .. 7 yrs .. SRV left us a trove of timeless songs, melodies and performances that will be treasured forever. Keep on diving down into his catalog. Ya won't be disappointed. RIP Stevie Ray Vaughan .. #Forever35

Best blues guitarist in my feeble opinion is SRV, best over all, Jeff Beck, too many to say who's the best, I'm almost 60, I've seen Randy Rhodes live,(Prodigy), seen Slo Hand, Eric Clapton, God, seen Jimmy Page,God, EVH, Steve Vai, Yngwie, and 2 many 2 mention, fuck, Roy Clark was a prodigy, ask John 5. That's where it gets objective. Ask or listen to his peers, BB King said something about SRV bring a white boy with soul. Either way my opinion nothing more, alway cool to see music is still alive.✌️
