I've been a Beatles Freak since I was four years old and saw their American TV debut on The Ed Sullivan Show in February of 1964. For newbies I always recommend two things that will plug them into the musical/social phenomenon of the British Invasion. First find 1964s A Hard Days Night. It's a slice of what their lives were like untill they stopped touring in 1966 and went into the studio. The invented many things and sounds that are still in use today. The film will help you with who is who and has many of their early hits. Second there's a documentary called How The Beatles Changed the World, that's around on most streaming services. It taught me things I was too young to understand when they were happening. There's no wrong way to learn about The Fab Four. I've found it's a little a bit easier to track the release dates of their songs by using the British dates. The American record company repackaged their music over and over. Have fun!🧓😎

The song Yesterday has had some 564 recording artists release a cover version. Another of George's songs called Something has been covered and released by something like 365 different artists. I suggest you devote much more time to The Beatles. They only recorded and released 210 songs. Do them all.

A few suggestions: listen to I Want You (She's So Heavy) from the Abbey Road album next. On the original vinyl LP, this is the last track on side one. It's a John Lennon song, a monster of a track, and you'll see why if you give it a listen. Then after you'd recovered somewhat, you'd have to get up out of your chair and flip the record, replacing the needle on track one, side two. Suddenly you find the long stormy night of troubled dreams is over, the sun breaks through and the clear light of dawn chases away the nightmares... with Georges sweet and hopeful Here Comes the Sun. Of course the song can also be read as a metaphor, for our emergence from any sort of 'long, cold, lonely winter' we might have gone through in our lives. After that, you could check out Now and Then, a recently released song/video, and/or get into a couple of documentaries about the band which will give you a general idea of where they came from, what they were about, and their cultural impact on the world. 'A Brief History of the Beatles' is short and almost 100% accurate, while (I think the name is) 'How the Beatles Changed the World', also good and definitely worthwhile if you really don't know anything much about these titans of rock music history.
