This song, along with "Love me Two Times" by he Doors, have to be two of the greatest driving songs of all time. Some other great Doors songs to react to that are just a little off the beaten path, but still awesome: "The End," "When the Music's Over ," "Waiting for the Sun," "Hello, I Love You."

I am 50 years old, when I was in high school I was obsessed with their music and it came at the right time, and it helped shape who I am today. John Densmore and I have the same birthday !! Ray Manzarek on the keys imo the best in rock music. Other than the vocals, the keys are the foundation of most Doors songs. He was a musical genius capable in most any genre including classical.
If y'all get the chance check out Oliver Stone's moveie "the Doors". Though it may not be accurate historically (or just one interpretation of history) it does paint a very good picture of the vibe of the time. What was happening both musically and culturally in the late 1960s.
It's also a pun he's saying "I woke up in morning" so you could take it as "I woke up in the morning" or I woke up in morning. Like he's miserable. Also for those who don't know it, when you wake with a hangover, you start drinking again, and no more hangover. The hair of the dog.
I have to say I saw The Doors live in concert at Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis in 1968! It was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. The place was packed and Jim Morrison literally had the whole crowd mesmerized. It was spooky awesome if you know what I mean!
idk anything about what people line dance to (never done it, never been around it) but the sound of this Doors song, "Roadhouse Blues," is closest to the blistering, uptempo, electric blues of guitarists like Albert Collins, Albert King, Freddie King, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, as well as the rough-edged blues of singer Lou Ann Barton. The man killing the keys on this track is Doors keyboardist, Ray Manzarek, who grew up on the southside of Chicago and was a big fan of Chicago blues music. And, although the Doors didn't actually have a bass player (Ray usually handled the basslines on the keyboards), the bass on this track is being played by the influential blues-rock guitarist and “blue-eyed soul” singer Lonnie Mack. I wasn't born until after Jim Morrison passed but, as a teen, I loved the Doors the moment I heard them. The Doors have a lot of different sounds (a lot of trippy, psychedelic rock and songs that are legit poetry set to music) but "Roadhouse Blues," to me, is one of their most accessible, most straight-up bluesy sounds.

Jim Morrison was quite a heavy drinker, especially towards the end of The Doors. He was no doubt sipping a cold one when they recorded this. Ray Manzarek was their keyboard player, and is regarded as one of the greats on that instruments. He wrote a good portion of the music, and often laid down the bass lines on the keys as well, since The Doors didn't have a steady bass player.

If you are feeling adventurous you might like "An American Prayer," and the track "Feast of Friends." It's my favorite, the music is sad and contemplative. "An American Prayer," is an odd album. Morrison recorded his poetry without music and after he died the other members recorded music to compliment his spoken word poetry.
I bought The Doors album, Morrison Hotel on vinyl in the early 70s. Its SO good. First track is Roadhouse Blues, I love that track ,and I have been playing the album ever since. Waiting For The Sun is a superb track on that album too.
You should watch "The Doors". Some love it, some knock it. But it definitely shows you what that era felt like...the hedonistic late 60's. And Val Kilmer seems to channel Jim Morrison...right down to his slinky walk. It's one of Val's best performances, right up there with his portrayal of Doc Holiday in "Tombstone". Lots of people think he should've gotten an Oscar for both roles. Btw, Jim Morrison loved Elvis. Which reminds me..how about another Elvis reaction? The movie about him opens soon. No live performance but the studio version is great (sexy too)..especially the video set to a photo montage. Ive watched a couple dozen of your vids, and enjoyed them. Good job. The problem is, im pretty sure the Dudes name is Recklezz. But what is the Chicks name? You should maybe introduce her if shes just a guest. Or if shes always there, and shes in everyone ive seen, put her in the credits. Like it or not, She is your co star.

If you are into reading you should check out the book no one gets out alive which is the autobiography of Jim Morrison and it tells his life story from early childhood up until the time he passed away. I don’t really read but I read that book and it was awesome
People like Jim, Janis, etc., I think they lived hard because they knew they were going to die young. Logical people would say they died young because they lived hard, but I don't think that's actually how it works.
So it's not the only time life screwed me but it was one of the ultimate times life screwed me when it made me Jim Morrisons second cousin once removed and then made sure I would be adopted by the neighbors so I didn't find out until I was 52 AND made sure that Jim would die when I was two so that I never got a chance to meet my cousin and idol. Oh well, at least I finally found out about my familial connection, it explains a lot. My cousin was the long haired, acid dropping, whiskey guzzling bad boy of rock n roll, and likely the greatest scholar the world of rock has ever produced at the same time. RIP Jim.
