The songs of love and the brotherhood of mankind was the response at the time for civil rights. This is one of many that needs to be re-presented to the young people of today. Let's have a revival of open love between people from ethnically different backgrounds. And a Jesus Freaks revival too! Love your reactions and comments to the songs you play. I subscribed. There's a story this is probably based on... of a little girl carrying her brother. Both of them looking malnourished and poor, some old people see them and ask the girl: "Isn't he heavy?" and she, maybe in her innocence or in a burst of love and genius, replies: "No, mister... he's not heavy... he's my brother..."
@lorifriedman8987
@lorifriedman8987 4 года назад
Actually he is talking about everyone. You, the guy next door, a stranger. He is saying we are all in this together so what burdens you have he is here for you. It is a message that artists have tried to make people understand. What we are going through now...whatever it is he has your back...even me...even his brother, sister, first cousin...or the guy down the street.

In the 1940s, the words, adapted as "He ain't heavy, Father, he's my brother", were taken as a slogan for Boys Town children's home by founder Father Edward Flanagan.[3] According to the Boys Town website, the phrase as used by Boys Town was said to Fr. Flanagan in 1918 by one of the residents while carrying another up a set of stairs. The boy being carried is said to have had polio and worn leg braces.[4]

You definitely need to hear "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" and "The Air That I Breathe". Great songs and two more really good vocal performances. "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" also features one of the most iconic guitar riffs of the classic rock era.

The Hollies originated in the early sixties in England ..the singer that you're listening to is the original lead singer named Alan Clark .. who was amazing he was with the band off and on until about 99 or so... he left and then he came back and over the years... there were other lead singers ..he finally left for good in the late 90's.. another lead singer took over the permanent spot in 200 ( I think) his name is Peter Howart who was originally a backup singer for Cliff Richards for many years.... you need to go on RU-vid and look them all up... they had the most beautiful Harmony the most amazing songs and I have to agree.. he ain't heavy is one of my favorites ...but you got to go back and listen to the air that I breathe.... Go to RU-vid check them all out... you will not believe... they're still on tour to this day.. 2 of the original members are still carrying the band to this day ...and they're still touring Europe and England.. and their still is very popular there... Sadly they never had the popularity here that they gained in England...so sad so many never knew their talent...

Allan Clark retired from due to voice problems and taking care of his wife who was undergoing cancer treatments (on a personal note, they have been married for 56 years).
