I remember so many ppl back in the day trying to act like they didn't like this... meanwhile while they were bumpin', bobbin' their heads and singing along. When this song comes on today, everybody still gets hyped no matter what they say.
Back in the day everyone said Ice was a poser and the song was so unappreciated. But time has proven this song is a certified banger and stood the test of time way better than most of the 90's hip hop we claimed was "real music" at the time. Someone else summed it up perfectly. We thought we were too cool for Vanilla Ice, but in reality Vanilla Ice was too cool for us.
People should be applauding Vanilla Ice. He took rap to a level it’s never seen before him. He’s the first rapper to have a number one song, AND a number one album on the charts
This and MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" exposed a bunch of us kids to hip-hop, but I didn't really gain an appreciation for what hip-hop could offer until I listened to the classic "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five. A seminal track in music history.
This was big but also under rated in its time..people laughed at him and said he was a joke..little did we know we would live through a decade of mumble rap BS
They laughed because they didnt know other ppl were sampling also. The difference was they got permission and vanilla didnt. Vanilla thought he changed the beat enough in that sampling that he didnt need to. Plus being a teen then the manager and record producers should know.
I was 12 when this was out. I'd listen to this as well as Skid Row, Wilson Phillips, Metallica, Janet Jackson, and so on and so forth. I'm grateful to have grown up in the 80's and 90's. Great music from all genre's.
Vanilla Ice had some moves back then...lol. This was the kind of rap I enjoyed. I don't care if he got in trouble for sampling Queen's beat from Under Pressure. This song was great party music. It's my niece's ringtone right now....lol. It's too bad he was forced out of the music scene after this.
Well it wasn’t because of him using under pressure. It was because he created this backstory that he was from the “hood” that took his credibility away when they found out he grew up middle class
He's been on world tour for the last 3 decades. Ice is fine, he's still making bank. He bought the rights to Under Pressure after being sued. Still makes half a mill a year from the royalties of this song alone.
According to Vanilla Ice he left the scene willingly otherwise he would not have survived that world. I think Suge Knight put the fear of God in Vanilla Ice threatening to throw Ice off a building if he didn't sign song rights over to Knight so knight could get his cut. Lol.
No kidding! I think he got into some big trouble with that, didn't he? I love "Under Pressure," no lie, so I was bit ticked that he blatantly ripped off Queen & Bowie.

Also, for the record, those “two bars’ as you were so insistent happened to be throughout a lot of the song that he did. He did rip them off. I understand if you are a fan of his, and there’s no denying his song is catchy, but he did do something wrong, he did rip off someone else’s song, and it doesn’t matter if it was only two bars
I’m glad people are starting to admit that like his, dancing, rapping , his videos etc. Since he was disliked by quite a few people they had trouble admitting it. Besides his personality has improved and he is a better person now.
the thing about Vanilla is the guy can really dance, i mean REALLY dance the artist with the best dance moves i have ever seen after Michael Jackson, no kidding
Before slim shady,vanilla ice was the original white boy of hip hop,kid rock as well but he got no where with hip hop so he went on to rock and roll music and was a big success.

This came out my Jr year of high school. It played at EVERY DANCE until I graduated! I bought the cassette tape when it came out and played it so much I bought at least 4 more copies that I can remember because I wore them out.
I must've played the song 1000+ times in 1990/1991. That cd got properly scratched up. I also had a rare version of the CD that had a robotic digital sound before Ice Ice Baby played.
Ice Ice Baby was sampled from "Under Pressure" by Queen and singer David Bowie, who did not receive songwriting credit or royalties until after it had become a hit. Vanilla Ice (Robert Van Winkle), wrote "Ice Ice Baby" in 1983 at the age of 16. There was a lot of controversy over the sampling at the time. The song was played so much MTV stopped playing it.

Ahh, the song that brought all the suburban white kids to hip hop. I remember 4th grade, a friend had this on tape, front and back, nothing else and we listened everyday on the bus.
I remember in '92 when this song came out the Dallas radio station 97.1 KEGL had a DJ named Kidd Kradick (R.I.P.) that played this song back to back for like an hour. One of the station director called in and told him to stop playing it. But guess he played it again. The director called in again and kicked him off the air.
He wrote this when he was 16. Also, I don't know anyone who grew up with this song who hears the word "Stop" and doesn't immediately think in their head "collaborate and listen" 😅
Everyone my age wanted a 5.0 in the early 90's. My friend's rich dad bought a new one for his younger brother. When my friend complained, he was bought one too. Poor me was blown away.
Everyone from the 90s knows what a "Five Point O" was , 1987 -1992 mustang pony body with a 302 v8 5.0l fuel injection 5 speed mustang with turbine wheels or pony 5 spoke wheels most bad ass fastest car. It was basically a tin can with a monster engine tyranny that gained so much speed that you couldn't control it. If you crashed in a 5.0 you were probably dead like a tuna fish can.
I remember going to a Party Downtown Chicago in the 90’s when this came out and there was so many people in the house you couldn’t move not even in the bathroom this song came on outside on the 18’s they had blasting you could hear it a block away and the whole house started jumping when this song came on i thought it was going to crash to the ground
