FIRST TIME listening to Metallica - "The Struggle Within" REACTION 

Asking which is my favorite Metallica album or song is like asking which is my favorite brain cell.

This song often gets over looked, but the riffs are insane. Especially the one right after the main solo. So raw.

The solo to the part where he says go is HARD.

The aggression in James's voice is awesome in this song, extremely underrated track

Metallica helped raise me. With no father alot of metallicas songs were great structure for me. Forever grateful for James lyrics he really doesnt get enough credit for them. PS - nice to see you smile so much Lilly. Love you. :) Metallica rocks.

This is probably my favorite on the album along with Through the Never. It hits hard, like vintage Metallica.🤘

I love 4 albums, the first I listened to: Ride the lighting and Master of puppets, justice, Black album. Master is just insane.

Lilly, I'd recommend doing Queenryche - Operation Mindcrime full album. It's a concept album that tells a complete story. My favorite concept album and one of the best made IMO.

Favorite? Tossup between Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets. Depends on my mood.

If I had to be stranded on an island for the rest of my life and could only take a walkman and one CD I'm taking Ride the Lightning. I can't live without it.

The Black Album was my late teen years. A portable CD Player walkman, family Holiday, and every chance Id get id have the headphones on and spinning that disk. Sure, some see it as the sellout album, but really, it was Metallic growing up for me. Load, Re-Load, yeah OK, but Id always come back to the Black. Our wedding waltz was Nothing Else Matters.

I honestly think this was the best solo on the entire album. Yeah, The Unforgiven solo is legendary, but damn it if this solo doesn't have an AJFA feel to it.

Favorite Original album is And Justice for All. But I would pick Garage Days is probably my favorite overall. Metallica called themselves the biggest cover band in the world. I have talked to so many people over the years that had no idea that so many of their songs were covers.

Load album is one of my favs. But It's not trash. It has slow tempo and more elaborated songs and lyrics. It sounds great too. Open you mind. Be warned! The House JB 🍺

Great to see you discover this underrated Metallica track. A little known fact about this track, it was deemed so strong by the band, it was between this track and Enter Sandman to lead the Black album. In the end we know what the decision was, being deemed the second strongest track they reverted to the old Rock and Roll rule for Albums. Leave the listener with your second strongest track to get that repeat listen. Bob Rocks production on this track is a lesson in capturing sound. Lars drums sound like explosions, James rhythm guitar is so crisp, Jason ripping on the bass and finally Kurt with the sweet lead sound is sharp. Aggressive, Positive music is the Metallica way.

This album transitioned into Load. The problem at that time was Metallica took several years off before the next album. came in with a new look😂😂

I started to black album when i was young. But i love and justice for all. My favorite album. The sound and instrument very unique to others metal band.

I was in a Coma for a Month. Emergency surgery. Had a Ilostomy bag a year after. Big ordeal. My brother was in the Army over in Afghanistan at that time. So And Justice for All. Would have to be my fav. For the Song One is on it. 😊

Talking about Metallica changing styles, Load and Reload is where the real change happened. It's still great music, but you'll see real change when you start Load (assuming you're doing it next). I love every Metallica album, but Puppets is my favorite, with Justice at a close second.

I don't know anything about you but I have watched a couple of videos and I am definitely entertained. With that said, I don't know if you're in college or what your future plans are as far as potentially writing is concerned but your ability to dissect a story and expand upon it leads me to think that you would be one incredible English major. Damn, choosing which is the best Metallica album is very difficult to answer, every song from Kill'em All to the Black Album all the songs are hits, but for me the best album would be between Right the Lightning and Master of Puppets. I can't decide.

I can't pick just one album to be my favorite. My top 3 would be Master, Ride, and Justice - in no particular order, or just all tied for first. Now, don't let people talk you out of reacting to Load and Re-Load. There are a lot of excellent songs on those two! I wouldn't say they are my favorite albums, but a handful of those songs are definitely my favorites! Thanks for doing these reactions! It's very cool to see people discover Metallica for the first time - it takes me back to the beginning, lol.

This song only comes alive to me from Lilly Jane's attention to the lyrics! Metallica owes much for that, usually letting us/me lazily letting it wash over me without paying attention to the lyrics so much...maybe spoiled from Ride the Lightning. And then recalling the musical journey of this song! I think it's the vocals and lyrics mixed with the tempo that let me not have to pay attention. Except, "boredom comes from/sets into a boring mind", but isn't being bored often a sign of wanting more? Anyway, my favorite overall on the black album is Through the Never. And from all, Creeping Death and For Whom the Bell Tolls.

I miss Jason's backing vocals! James & Jason had some awesome harmonies, and Jason was a Beast on backup vocals with his deeper growls, but he can sing well as the Black album and live performances show!! As for a favorite album, for myself, it's like asking what's your favorite song!? Lilly you're one of my favorite metal reactors!!❤🎸🤘

The struggle I'm having within right now is picking a favorite Metallica album. I suggest checking out there 30th anniversary Blacklist album. They picked artists and asked them to choose a song from the Black album and use the lyrics but make it there own. Most did straight covers but the first track The Warning and Alessia Cara did Enter Sandman and it is with out a doubt the best reimagining of a Metallica song ever.

This is my pick for an overall Metallica album. 2nd is Kill 'em All. There are songs from other albums I like but not every song on them.

By far not a sell out album, and for all the numbskulls out there that think that, well, can't say much about your musical taste then. This guitar sound from James was EPIC, aggressive sounding and well put together with amazing choreography of the instruments, and Jason got to be heard finally. My 2 favorite albums: RTL and Black Album. My Friend of Misery and Trapped Under Ice being my favorites from those. Escape and The Unforgiven are 2nd place for those.

I think the black album was the best one.

It's been cool watching you react to the whole Black album. As other's have noted, there is a big shift between this one and Load. In the background, the world of metal had a seismic shift as well. In the decade between Kill 'Em All and Black, record labels discovered that teen girls loved metal bad-boys-with-a-heart so churned out a slew of bands with the metal look (denim, leather, studs, the hair); but got them to do one "qualification" metal song, then focus on ballads and party songs. This became Hair Metal eventually. Just after Black, the girls decided they'd had enough of bad boys and went to boy bands and the market evaporated. The era of big-budget, big airplay, metal was done. Metal fans had already either shifted to the world of Thrash, Death Metal or bands like Pantera, and loads grabbed on to a new genre that would become known as Grunge: with it's anti-corporate and anti-commercial stance. Record companies would try to commercialise this, killing it in the process. Angsty-teen-rebels also had a new sound to be all anti-establishment: Cypress Hill and metal/hip-hop crossovers like Rage Against the Machine. Metallica adopted a new look (short hair) and a rockier sound. Load is a good album, but different and was the first step towards the wilderness years of Reload and St Anger. Highlights of that era, IMO, fall to Garage Inc (a covers album) and S&M with Michael Kamen. Again, IMO, familiar Metallica wouldn't return until Death Magnetic

My fave Metallica album is still 'Ride the Lightning' since high school... The 1 record that tops 'em all 🤘🤘 I remember in 1992 listening to the 'black' album on repeat cos it was the new Metallica record - everyone was blasting that one, not just the freaks like me 😈 But I rank it #4 on my list ... it's - 1) Ride the Lightning, 2) And justice for all, 3) Kill 'em all, 4) Metallica 'black' album, 5) Master of Puppets... The 2nd CD of 'Garage Inc. from 1998 has the covers Metallica recorded from 1984 to 1995, including the EP 'Garage days'... I'm just not into 'Load/ Reload' as much... the 'S&M' symphonic live album is great... so is the 1993 'Live s+++ binge & purge' live boxed set... 'St. Anger' (2003) is easily their worst album w/ 'Lulu' (Lou Reed + Metallica)... 'Hardwired to self destruct' (2016) is better than the 'Load' records, and so is 'Death Magnetic' (2008)... New album '72 Seasons' is kinda boring - recycled riffs into a 'new' record.

If you really like snare, I recommend St. Anger to react next - that album is - and it's not an overstatement - FULL with snare drumming 😁😆 Sadly, no guitar solos on it AT ALL... and I know you love guitar solos, too - well, nothing can be perfect 🙄
