I'm waiting on an interview for an aviation airframe apprentice. Hoping to use a bunch of your stuff if it comes through, I need to go through the tool options yet to see if you carry all the sets I need!
First time watcher, when I first became a professional mechanic almost 10 years ago my mom also helped me buy the tools I needed so I didn’t have to take mine from home. Couldn’t of done it without her. Moms are awesome !
Just finished MMI an got right to work an got a job at speed shop my mom said she'd held me to but then she kick me outta her home an basically stool all my MMI book an isn't helping me
This awesome!! When I got my first professional mechanic job working in a high performance speed shop my dad gave me a $10,000 loan to build my first box ( he was a NHRA Mechanic ) so he understood what I needed. And 4 years later when I had enough money saved I handed him an envelope with $20,000 cash as an appreciation an pay back for the help he gave me. Fast forward 17 years now, we build 6 sec capable crate engines for local guys.
First of! those are the parents who don’t stop supporting their kids even after they are grown! Blessed to be a child raised by parents like that. I get to pass down the support to my kids ❤
Your mom is a great mom! Mine bought me a 60" Macsimiser tool box from Mac Tools and also loaned me $2500 to start at my dad's automotive shop. My dad helped me out on the education side and my mom hoped me on the money side. I love my mom for it and, yes, I love my dad too
When I was 7 my grandpa gave me all hand me down tools, he got at yard sales started off with a toolbox I got for $25 at a yard sale 20 years later I got my shop in PA working on any older cars buying 20s and 30s cars all day long and reselling them
A lot of times when you live a good life and are a good person, you become surrounded by people who love and care about you and go out of the way to help you out. Glad to see that you have some good people in your life dude
Good luck on the next chapter of life. The real blessing sounds like it’s your wife, mom, and good friend who hooked it up… subbed, and great content thanks for sharing :)
Back in 2019 for Christmas my mom gave me her card bought me my first tools box (us general 5 drawer) and said buy what ever you need for work (I started off in a tire shop at 18 years old) I got all my basics 🥲couldn’t have done it without her ❤️
When I started, I started with basic hand tools- assorted sized ratchets and sockets, screw drivers, pry balls, pliers, etc. but my uncle sent me a few of my grandfathers air tools he inherited. They weren’t expensive or special in any way. But he explained my grandpa got him his first set of tools when he started so he was going to send me something that would get me buy until I could get new stuff. Many years later, I have upgraded but have the old stuff at home and still makes me tear up when I see my grandpas name engraved on my tools
That is awesome that your Mom helped you get started. Take advantage of all the “time” you don’t have to spend not doing without, & help your Mom back. That’s an awesome way to get started in any trade. Your mom deserves many Sunday Brunches ;-)
This is the first video of yours that I’ve seen and I’m so happy for you! Having a new job that you’re this excited about, and having a wife and mum be this supportive! So wholesome!
This video is awesome. I love watching tool storage videos but your story makes this so much better. You have a beautiful family on your side and wish you the best.
Nice setup man!, I’m just now getting into the automotive field I just graduated and I start at a car dealership and this exactly what I need right now but hey we all have to start somewhere I’ll be buying things little by little. Nice video !
I have the same 34” full bank roll cart in black as well. I think you’ll love it. It rolls well too with the large casters.. and the top is deep enough for plenty of stuff. I’m not quite finished setting it up/filling it up,(outgrew the US General smaller 5-Drawer cart). Also remember to utilize magnetic holders!! (Sides, back, lid, etc.). Good luck with the new gig! 🙌🏻🙏🏻
First time watcher! You hit the nail on the head for a powersports dealer! Except for buying your own zip ties, did that too and now I have tons of extras from projects here and there! Awesome setup, Need it!
First time watcher, loving the content ! I just put my first tool box together and love getting some ideas from yours. Thank you very much, keep it coming !
Just found your channel. I like your calm way of telling your story. Easy and informative. Keep updating! I can't say enough how blessed guys like us are with support from family and friends. Makes the journey so much more meaningful. Take care and good luck on the change!
@@monteblackburn733 - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EavkxEmObo4.html That’s a more up to date look at the box as it sits now - it’s just a lot dirtier now 😬
Andy, it seems like the music is always too loud (in my own stuff) right off the bat, and the microphone audio is always too low. I wouldn't sweat that too much! Most videos anymore, I'll try to find a 'baseline' off of one of the popular RU-vid channels, and then level my audio out to try and match that. I wouldn't sweat it, looks like you've got a great following so far and a ton of views on this video for being a fairly new channel!
I love the setup. I plan to get that same full bank cart some day, but I’m rolling with the 4 drawer for now. I’d also go heavy on those Icon tools like you. The few I have are great so far. Good luck and let us know how the setup serves you!
I also own the same vessel screwdriver set there awesome you’ll love them ,I’ve slowly bought every wrench set icon makes and the double box end ratchet wrenches are absolutely awesome
Right to the heart! My dad took me out while I was on leave and we went to Sears! He bought me all the tools I could ever need and I still use them all after two years! It’s about time I move on to a small cart but never gave it much thought. I’m living out of my tool bag and it’s FULL of stuff. Super happy for you!!!!
Props to your mom for buying all this. Crazy. I'm a student in mechanics, I've been working on my bikes for a while, now started to get onto cars, but I buy all my tools myself. My parents barely buy me anything tool related. That will take me ages lol Nice video man!
Shout out to all the moms and wife's that support us men/boys. My dad purchased many of the tools I needed when first started my automotive career. Awesome cart
Nice setup and good luck! I've been wrenching on bikes for two dealers and a small shop for the last 17 years. Very enjoyable work if you don't let the occasional frustrating job get to you. I have that heat gun. It does the job fine. Point it up to cool off after use so it doesn't cook off the thermal fuse in the back, and it'll last until the cord starts to fall apart.
Subscribed for the shout out to your mom. I am in a similar situation in that I just accepted an automotive technician position after working in offices and schools the last 6 years. I had already started my collection of tools, but would love to fill it out with more. Good luck out there!
How was making the switch? May I ask if you have to take a pay cut? I'm in a similar position where I want to get out of supervision and into the automotive industry.
I just came across ur channel, I'm not a advanced mechanic, but learned old school from dad and a feiend who is ase certified. I recently bought that same tech cart, Its awesome. Good luck on the new adventure. You also picked up some great tools.
Congrats on the new job bud. I just had my last day at Jiffy Lube yesterday and there I didn’t need to bring my own tools or anything. Although I was heading towards the 2nd mechanic position but things just weren’t working out, so I finally got a call back from a Chevrolet dealership and they offered me a job as a lube tech to at least get my foot in the door and start, so I’m supposed to start Monday, so I gotta fill my current toolbox and organize everything how I need to and then take everything out and load it in the back of my truck to take with me AND I a, getting my own Bay Area thank god. But yep, new jobs I get anxious for but I know I’m gonna do what I always do, and give my 200% and do my best and see where we go. Good luck on the new job dude! We both are gonna rock the new jobs! I’ll never be afraid to admit if my parents helped me and bought me things. That’s what parents are there for, to help you out. My parents are the same way, they are super supportive in pretty much anything that I want to do. And this is how I’m going to be when it’s time for me to have kids, I’ll support them Honestly a lot of people talk shit about the Harbor Freight tools, but my god for the price you really can’t beat it. I would rather buy Harbor Freight shit for 1/4 of the cost rather than snap-on or MAC, etc. because if shit breaks then I can go just buy another one, not a big deal
You're going to need a long Phillips head screwdriver and the SnapOn 5CF 5" Ignition pliers. They are great for electronic plugs, tight carburetor screws where using an impact driver is impractical, and any other tight fit items you need seperated. Honestly the best plier they make. I love it. Those will be absolutely necessary as a motorcycle tech.
My mom before she passed for Christmas two years ago got me the biggest Kobalt tool set you can buy since I liked doing my own auto work thanks to that set i became a mechanic officially for a career and I still use the heck out of those sockets I think of her anytime I use it I'm so grateful that it has like special bits I wouldn't have thought to buy yet have come in so handy
I like the set up. I too have a US General box (got it last year). Mine is just a service cart so not full bank like yours. For Christmas one year my parents bought me a Masterforce 36 inch full bank cart from Menards after seeing me struggle with space for my tools, and my now brother in law gave me one of his old boxes for use a top box for it. That was every bit of 6 years ago and it was truly the best gift ever. When I graduated for small engine repair last year I added to my collection of tools (hence the US General box), and now I’ve got a good amount of storage. Almost need the actual topper for my big box. Best of luck on the new job! Hopefully it goes well for ya!
Awesome video! I remember my first time getting into the HVAC trade 7 years ago ny mama gave me some money for all my handtools and a nice set of power tools! Helped me out a bunch!
Just a quick tip that will hopefully avoid headache down the line… Chrome sockets are for wrenches, the adapter is ok for a drill. For impact wrenches & drivers look for black oxide finish and label that says “rated for impact” or “impact ready”. Some heavy duty Chrome may work for a bit but generally they are thinner walled and have a balance of higher hardness & lower strength that’s not designed to withstand or take advantage of the concussive blows from an impact’s anvil. At some point they’re likely to crack. The higher strength/lower hardness of Impact sockets will probably make your tool run better as well, deforming to absorb and transfer force over a longer period of time, causing less rattle and power lost as heat
@@Garandmasthumb yep have never bought a set of chrome sockets there just isn't a use very often, they are almost double the price of the impact sockets and the impacts work on a ratchet and my guns
Good video I love these tool hauls as a new tech for Japanese makes and modes I love my tools and always wonder what someone found that I don’t have. Make another video to say how it’s going later I wanna see how it goes. Best of luck
First time watcher and I really enjoyed your vibe and this video helped me pinpoint which tools I need as a tech student getting ready for the start of my career
fair play dude thats a really nice set up, took me best part of 7-10 years to get to the point of knowing what i needed and what i didnt. cant fault any of your purchases.
I run a Powersports repair shop from my home, as well as working a 7a-6p 5 days a week in retail, I can’t/won’t go full time in with wrenching as I broke my back a few years ago and it’s painful to do so, but on average I stay about 3-4 weeks backed up on power sports jobs. I started out as a tech almost 20 years ago in a car dealership. Collecting tools comes with time when you start realizing the individual tools you need. Nice start.
Spray adhesive the drawer liners to the box drawers, they bunch up over time when opening and closing the drawers with tools. It's great that you have a ton of organization type of tool holders. I never worked at a dealership, only my own supermoto and street bike and I am a general car and small truck mechanic for 13 yrs, now im part time due to attending my local university for mechanical engineering and maths. You have all the basic tools but a power probe, blind hole bearing puller on a slide hammer, spark tester, compression and fuel pressure gauges, digital tire inflators (consistently more accurate over the life of the tool), everything else is specialty tools that you'll figure out as you work in the field. Power sports assembly checklists and inspections, oil changes, tires and tubes, battery and stator checks and installs, fork rebuilds with checking for tubes surface corrosion and of course new case rebuilds if their chain snapped or gears were grinding. Good luck dude, consistent good work is always better than fast but un-thorough work.
Really love the video it really reminded me of the original excitement I had to be a mechanic but I remember when I first started as a motorcycle mechanic I went in a little blind too so I decided to start my tool collection small and I bought a lot of my tools from Harbor Freight you went a little over kill but at least now you'll have everything you need plus more haha.
That's an awesome parent to help you keep your tools at home. When I first started at FireStone I ran into the same issue. Took my tools to work which made doing anything at home a tremendous pain in the butt. And GOD FORBID you forget to grab 1 tool that you don't think you'll need because it always works out that it's the one thing required to do something.
First time watching the video, I started out with a harbor freight box, harbor freight tools, some craftsman, some Lyle tools, vise grips, channel lock tools, Milwaukee tools, and few others, after I started getting my certs and time under my belt, I bought a used repo snap on box dirt cheap, and started going to tool auctions and stuck gold with a few things from snap on and was able to warranty it out for the new version and then built my current set up, my harbor freight box is in my garage but my is general service cart sits next to my snap on box and inside my work tool box is a range of mixed tools not all snap on. I love the video and also putting together beginning tool boxes.
When I got my first tool cart I found it nice to hang my milwaukee tools on the side and when I close and lock the lid it would lock them on the side , that's a nice setup none the less, and good luck it's a long journey ahead
Good luck to you young man, all awesome choices for tools, 40 years in the trade, non name brand tools have gotten a lot better, and definitely are a better choice for the just beginning tech cost wise
