It's a beautiful thing when a driver understands that if you need both hands to on the wheel to correct the car, there's a 95 percent chance something bad is brewing. Love seeing that hand come off the button and straight for the chutes. To me that's a sign of a great driver.

C/ED (Scott McClay's Econo Dragster), and both games are super fun at my late stage (66 years of age). Keep racing into the future folks. (It is great to be back amongst the racing folks again!)

So, I learned something my first Double Div. Race back, though it took me a few days comparing 30 plus year old data, and reviewing 50 year old bracket racing memories. What changed? What really has changed was late afternoons in the 70's and 80's I was a tree stealer, and shot for perfect .500, 5 amber flood light starts, red after 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM (a dinner break, eat a snack bar burger turning .496 red time trials to double zero and teen Rnd wins) Racing well into the dark of night was perfect for this lifelong night owl, who drinks coffee in the morning to wake up, and hates the morning sun. Class racing in Stk. Elim. Both Div. And Nat. Events is all early morning....8:00AM to 9:00 AM lane calls, both Q passes and Rnd calls. (And at age 66, I am barely awake after a full pot of coffee consumed.) I cannot live without my coffee. And usually an 8 cup full pot these days consumed in 4 LG cups). I won 2 rounds in 2 events .033, and .032 lights (plus a Class Wally, did I say Wally? Sry Justin....lol I had to again brother), and lost 1 first Rnd, -.032 red at 8:30 AM Friday, and 1 second rnd at 9:30 AM Sunday -.005 red, after winning a 5:36 PM first rnd. Saturday afternoon. (That 5 thou early red light was a hold your breath it will be either red or green, that will never bother me, as no way to change that w/ your mind/ body alone, only through biologically pre-consumed food intake. The common denominator is caffeine in the AM, so figuring how to legally wake up and race early morning (Saturday was a test, up at 5:00 AM, made a pot, only consumed a half a cup, and, had watched the re-broadcast of the 1st race whole Stk. Elim. Lights before bed the night before...realized only a handful were hammering the tree better than .030, relax kid to .030's the 2nd race....next day Q1 .033 (after only half a cup), missed the target by just 3 thou, as the mission is .030 lights for a day...Unless that handful of heavy tree stealers is competitively in the other lane...Class Racing 1 and done for the trophy at 12:32 PM .032, then at 5:33 PM after lotsa crewing on the C/ED car.... .033 again, and I can live with that. Consistent safe winning lights though not killer, early tree stealing. I am back in the hunt and within 2 thou apart after 3 lights. And tho short shifting the car 1-2 @ 5,200 RPM, running almost to the 7,300 rev limiter at 7,000 RPM on 2-3 shift the car is slower but perfect. Sunday AM 8:30 lane call Jimmy DeFrank (Calif. CAR COVER COMPANY family fame), in the other lane Rnd. 2, (he is in that handful of capable perfect tree stealers, just like Chad Langdon was 1st round Thursday), just another 1/2 cup wakeup, w/ a little more C/ED unloading the dragster crew work to get rid of the caffeine consumed, and oooop,s shooting for perfection again, an unchangeable -.005 (just a wee early 5 thou too quick on the wrong side red again). Dang that was close, but a disappointment losing close. (We still danced at the top end for fun! Mirror, mirror, sidelight, window, dip and courtsey on the line either way is a blast, I can take or leave the finish line, everytime) An AA/SA 9.97 rocket against my slow sled was amazing to see fly by on the big end. My first experience w/ a faster Late model Factory Stocker as A/S and A/SA was the fastest in the category back in 97', now there are 9 second Cars running 8's and faster in the Stk. Category. An 1/8th Mile head start is fun if I am green. They must show the patience of a Saintat the tree watching me drive away to a half track or more head start in an FWD slow sled that is super consistent, and wheels up there are a dozen ways to lose. But, all is fun watching wheelies and the whole underside of a super fast chasing car in the rear view mirror just to see if they are green or red at the tree. Not mad, not happy either, it is, what it is....gotta attempt to beat the best (slam the door shut early), to beat the rest later...the day is over on my drive and late life turn (for now...with lessons learned), a great start....but, let's win on the crewed entry, and we do by late Sunday afternoon! Las Vegas in November 2nd- 5th, will attempt the same early wake ups, no coffee, and see how that goes. (All those tree stealing years 70's through late 80's I won more bracket races than any 1 man ever deserved in a single lifetime, and all were late afternoon /evening night races but a bare few). Caffeine is now the declared enemy! Anyone have a suggestion besides just staying up all night? Life is but a maze, finding the center can lead you in circles, of both good and bad turns. How you change, and what you change determines the good/bad results. Determining the cause was interesting to say the least, as I have used coffee as my morning wake up since high school days. (But realized it was all out of my system by 3:00 PM when I usually raced and won a ton. Continue the coffee wakeup and eat more food to counteract it, or race sleepy and risk too safe lights?...That is the late life mystery to solve (just like the switch from floods to LED's on the tree that, took a lot less time to resolve than I thought it would...that was a huge change, & time marches on.) What to do, what to d?. Experiment is what we need to do. Sry Mr. COFFEE MAKER, you are not going with me next time. Or, maybe you will, with decaf. in the filters instead....lmao! That just might be the solution like near beer is for the alcohol addicted drunks as their usual solution. Will decaf be the answer, I don't know but worth a try I guess. That may just be an easier way to resolve the issue at hand. Worth a try I guess.

Jackie, Shine on, You Crazy Diamond! Man, this edit was still jumping levels over the previous masterpieces and almost at feature length. Amazing. Chief, getting better. Now there is movement and tyres are getting compressed. But there's a twist. Mainly on the axle. It loads and unloads the tyres unevenly, oscillating between tyres. This causes the car to steer from side to side. If the bars have more vertical angle than horizontal, this causes the axle to release the load on the tyre when the car yaws or hits a bump. Also there were cases when the tyre hopped over a crest. It got over crimped and kinked the grip surface. ? The surface area between the 4 attachment points on the rear bars at the chassis end is too small, i.e the bars are too close together. This acts as an articulated steering system, without the driver input. Adding to that the unstable tyre setup; too low tyre pressure with uneven grip level, you'll get a rear pinion drawing a circle in the air, when it should just go up and down or a very narrow ellipzoid. Funny thing is, adding a weight to this will stabilize the system. Getting the geometry and shock tune right would get better results, but adding weight helps too.
