A great session! I assume what people mean about your wand getting "more powerful" the more you use it is just about your characters wand skill. The weapon stats won't change, but your accuracy and potential damage do increase. Always keep up with your weapon skills as you level up! I got a good chuckle out of you pulling half the farm by accident and then panicking 🤭 see you in the next one!

haha I was not expecting to get jumped so badly and pull in pretty much all of Westfall, it felt, at the time :D

Love the vids - especially the intros. Couple of quick things. Don't buy food. You're clogging up your bags with cheese, milk, etc. You're a mage. You make your own food and drink as you go. One stack of each is plenty. What's with all of the balls of string? Are you a tailor? Even if so, store them in your bank. Your bank starts you with 20+ available slots. They are gray. The silver/gold costs you saw were if you wanted more. You can then purchase slots and put a bag in the slot to give you more storage space. Keep everything you don't need at hand in there. Especially linen cloth and soon wool cloth. Whether you use them or not, they often sell at the Auction House. If you don't have them yet, I'd consider at least picking up both tailoring and first aid professions. Tailoring trainer is in the Mage Quarter and first aid is in the main building at Cathedral Square - both in Stormwind. You'll be able to make your own gear as well as healing yourself while in combat. And you get plenty of cloth as you grind. Cooking is another solid one as you can make buffed food - usually with a stamina and spirit increase when eaten. When in a dungeon, I bring a stack of regular food (or conjured), a stack of buffed food and two stack of drink (stack meaning 20). That's more than enough in a typical 5-person run. In one of your recent vids, you couldn't mount or eat because it said you're in combat even though no mobs were attacking you. Most likely your Nova hit a critter. They won't attack, but any type of AOE damage they get caught up in puts you in combat until you either kill it or get enough distance from it. You can tell if you're in combat by looking at your character portrait. It will show your current level. When in combat, the level will be replaced with crossed swords. If you're running from something, once those swords disappear, you're no longer in combat and free to do whatever you choose. A good example of AOE to a critter is watching vids of hardcore groups wiping in Dire Maul because a cockroach was accidentally pulled into it. Always remember you have polymorph. Crowd control becomes very important as you level. It can easily turn a 3 v 1 fight into a 2 v 1 - at least temporarily. Lastly, it appears you're considering Deadmines as your first dungeon run. 18 is a good starting point for it. Know the need/greed system. When an item drop is rolled for, anything you can actually use, you "need" it. Such as an upgraded staff or wand, or a cloth piece of armor. If it's something you can't actually use, but could sell, you "greed" it. Such as a 2H axe, leather or mail armor pieces, etc. You'll be in a pug group most likely, and some players get very temperamental over players "needing" and possibly winning items they cannot use. I'd also suggest doing "The Defias Brootherhood" quest chain. It's mostly traveling, but it's free XP and offers a solid staff as a reward. It's started by Gryan Stoutmantle , who's located at the tower at Sentinal Hill in Westfall. It ends with you needing to kill Van Cleef - the final boss in Deadmines. As said, I really enjoy your videos and hope you are having fun playing the game.

Thank you, the intros do take time and was thinking to ditch, but quite a few seem to like them so will keep doing them for the time-being. Okay, will get rid of some of the food. I think I just wanted to have something that would fill my bars up quickly as the food and water I can conjure takes I while to consume, but yes, I certainly don't need so much of it. I had gone for tailoring and a profession and so got a little bit overzealous in a shop and purchased a lot of string - my thinking was that if I am going to be making clothes, I want to have the mats to do that. But yeah, again with this too, not so much needs to be carried on me until needed. Will bank stuff when next on. Ah, so that's what the crossed-swords means. I simply didn't realise. Am trying to remember to use polymorph as much as possible, but sometimes I get into such a state of panic around enemies that all logic simply fades away from my brain. Need/greed - got it. I'll be with four others that came over to my Discord when I first started WoW, so they're all patiently waiting for me to get to level 18. I'm currently trying to level up to that in order to start those lvl18 quests you mention, as someone told me that there are some pre-dungeon quests that I should do before going into the dungeon - must be the one you are speaking about. So that's currently where my videos/gameplay/playthrough is headed :) I'll activate Defias Brotherhood, just too see what it wants. I'm lvl16 at the moment I think, so shouldn't be too long before I hit 18 I imagine :D Thanks for all the info and advice

Blindly running in to grab the bag of oats and attracting a house full of pillagers made me laugh so loud I startled my cat lol. Remember to watch the chat. It's more than just players talking. It gives you important information, like when your weapons level up. You can see that your proficiency in wands is going up as you use it. But it doesn't make you stronger, it just makes it less likely for you to miss. Which is still important. Also, don't forget to check your talent tree. You can get significant power increases in there. If a Mage Trainer has a quest for you, you should always take that quest. It's going to be your Class Quest, which rewards you with one of your core abilities or a very good piece of gear. Some classes can't even play the game properly without doing them (I went a good while without doing some of my Shaman quests back and the day, and that was a massive headache.) Great video, Marc! Getting pretty close to doing that dungeon. Have fun!

Still making the same errors, which I imagine over time will decrease. I mean, there are only so many times that I can get jumped before I start to question why. Having said that, I can still be prone to repeating errors, even if I know an action may land me in trouble. I really need to make the Chat box something I automatically pay attention to. I did change it's colour as I couldn't really see the text before, but I'm still not really paying attention to it. I need to get on that for sure! Thank you

Questie is a great add on, but you have to remember that it will show you 'possible' sites where quest items can spawn not that they will definitely be there. Sometimes depends on if other people are questing and taking the items, or may be that the item you are looking for has multiple possible spawn sites but will only be in one of them. Rule of thumb is to use questie to get you to the right area.. and then LOOK :D Loving the vids!
@zedexgamingchannel

Yeah, I think I have since learned that the Questie icons are more of a general guide, than an exact location, which is fine. I have also learned to take my time and look around a little. An endeavor that took me some time hehehe. Really glad you're liking the vids :)

Don't forget your polymorph, one of the best get out of jail free cards for a mage. It's also good to practice as in dungeons you may be asked to sheep an enemy before a fight.

Yeah someone has told me to use it more. I tend to panic when there are large numbers and just run away. I need to remember that I can actually take one of them out of action! hehehe, so sheep and food/water supplies to take in to the dungeon. And Barry, of course. Thank you.

Wand is counted as a “weapon” so it’s a weapon skill just using it will lvl it up don’t have to train anything 👍 to check the skill I believe open the character tab (like your gear tab) and at the bottom should be a tab that is labeled “skills”….also the skill doesn’t make it stronger just allows you to land hits more consistently

At around 21:45 you left the mage trainer but didn't pick up the quest he had. Usually when trainer gives quests i'ts often some class-speficic stuff, which you nearly always should get, not to miss anything important on character progress. And overall too, as even you spoke about earlier tips aloud, it's good habbit to pick quests you see, as long as they are on some level range of your things. To avoid running back and forth, and not maybe missing some rewards. :)

Thanks you. I think my mindset was in "Don't activate anything in Stormwind as you're doing Westfall" but someone else also mentioned that if my Mage Trainer has a quest, then to do it. It'll be the first thing I do when I jump back in! Interested in seeing what rewards I get from Mage trainers! Thank you :)

Make sure you drag your new ranks of spells on your action bars! You might be using a weak version. Also try spam pressing fireball or frostbolt so you cast them faster. As soon as the cast bar is done you can cast a new one

I've had the time to catch up on the full play through and your retail play through. I can honestly say i havent laughed so much in a long time! :D I dont mean that in an insulting way, i've been playing this game for a long time and it's nostalgic to remember all the mistakes I've all made along the way. I have some toons on Pyrewood and have sent you a mail in game. Not sure how often or what sort of times you play, but always happy to help out if i'm online 👍 Only keep one stack of the highest level food/water in your bag, sell the rest it's just taking up bag space. (Technically you dont need any because you're a mage and can make your own, but I get that it's handy to have if you forget to make it.) Your Wand skill will show in your Skills tab at the bottom of your Character screen. (In the chat window you will see it say 'Your wand skill has increased to 52'). This skill level will not increase the stats or damage range on your wand, but is required for you to be able to hit your target. ie when it is still very low you will notice a lot of misses. As you get higher you will find higher level equipment which will have better damage and stats. As a mage you should be looking for (cloth) equipment and weapons that have Intellect, this is your main priority to build up your mana pool and crit chance, and then spirit and stamina would be next to look for. (Dungeons and dungeon quests usually give some of the best items.) Get rid of that Ley orb, it's an 'off-hand'. You can only use it if it is equipped, and you only need an off hand if you have a one-handed weapon like a sword or dagger. At lower levels you are mostly going to be using a Staff which is a 2 hander, so unless you have 3 hands it's pretty useless to you atm :) Just to end by saying that this is such a huge game even without all the different variations, and there is sooooo much to learn and discover. So ultimately, just "do you" and fun!

That's really nice of you, thank you. Yeah I had started Retail first, but then was told quite a lot to play Classic instead as that where everyone started out back in the day, so I switched. When I 'complete' Classic, I'll go back to Retail and start afresh there, with a new character as I chose wrong and didn't get too far. It's nice that you found things funny. I do like to laugh at myself and not take myself too seriously, which I guess is why I have done the 'Recap' at the beginning in the manner of putting me down in a humorous way :D I don't get to jump on as much as I would like to but thank you for the mail, I'll certainly race to the mail-box when I next jump in. Thank you. I tend to upload whenever I can get the time to play, which is why I haven't stuck to a schedule - I didn't want to have to force myself to make a video, which would take away some of the fun for me if I'm forcing myself to make it. I think I got a little panicky in the buying of food and realise I simply have too much, so I''ll put somethings in the bank and sell the rest! I think my thinking was that although I can make food and water, I found it slow when I was eating and drinking, so I thought these items would fill me up quicker, but I guess I don't need so much haha :D Ah, wand skill in Character screen, thank you. I will make a mental note to look there and to check the chat-box more often. Thank you very much for the lovely comment and I am really looking forward to exploring the other regions/realms and then later on - much later on most likely - all that Retail has to offer. 😁🐔

@@zedexgamingchannel Yes, Classic is a good 'training ground' to get a feel for WoW, even though it's more basic and slower levelling. It's often said that Classic is about the journey and exploring the world, whereas retail is more about the end game. As you saw on the clip of retail you showed, UI's have become heavily customised/customisable over the years which makes them now two very different games. But both enjoyable in their own way. I am a classic enjoyer mostly, but am still looking forward to the War Within expansion which is due to drop at the end of August (I think! lol). Again, if you go back to retail, happy to help you out if you need, although would probably have to relearn some of it myself :). It is much quicker to level up in retail if you are tempted to get max level before the next expansion hits. The ultimate experience in WoW is server lag when an expansion launches lol. There are currently several versions of the game available to play, (Cataclysm, Season of Discovery, Hardcore, Classic Era, Retail and Mists of Pandaria Remix) so we're a bit spoiled for choice right now :D

OK, this has nothing to do with gameplay. But just to have fun type in: /silly Do this several times it will tell you different jokes, Or. /train Or /dance 😂 Now on some gameplay, if you look at your mini map, map in top right corner the little gold dots or swords are where you can find your quest items or things to kill for your quest. As a mage, you want intellect on your gear for: Increases mana points and chance to score a critical hit with spells. Increases the rate at which weapon skills improve. Stamina: Increases health points And spirit for: Increases health and mana regeneration rates Again, my wife and I are enjoying your videos. Keep them up. 😊
