@@Steve-ph7qn M2 carbine was the full auto variant that saw service the last couple of months of WW2. Some soldiers were given conversion kits. Turned it into basically a slightly more accurate Sub machine gun.

You may be interested to know that after world war II the Italians took the m1 garand and converted it to accept the 20 round magazine. They also rechambered it in 308. The weapon was called the BM59 and looked just like the M 14. They're easy to tell apart by the muzzle brakes.

My dad carried one of these. Brought it home with a good bit of use on it. Never talked about who was on the other side of the sights, and what he did to make sure he got home.
He should try a HK G3 7.62x51 NATO. It has a recoil like an angry mule. Full auto and hitting target is absolutely not possible, so we learned to only shoot semi-auto.
@@mihabolero4684 it's the rifle, audio is out of sync just a touch in this video. The Garand ping is caused by the metal ammo clip being ejected after the final round is fired and is unique to the Garand design.
In 1966, in Marine Corps ITR, we were issued wwII Garands for the training because most of the M14s were in Viet Nam. These rifles had fired several million rounds according to our DI’s, and on more than a few occasions, they would go full auto, sending all eight somewhere down range. It was quite a thrilling event
@@Stg44guy after several million rounds, most of the moving parts, including the sear wear down. In some cases, the sear can’t catch the firing pin, and all hell breaks out! The rifles in question were all WW 11 issue, and most had many millions of rounds fired through them at the hands of 18 year old Marines.
@@nipplecream3099 not really, we liberated France and effectively won the war, while supplying the soviets and Britain with hundreds of thousands of vehicles, weapons, ammunition and supplies through lend lease. It was a very effective battle rifle.
@@MrPokesmot32 i did dude. Got 2 vids of me a few years ago in vegas shoots a colt 1911, a thompson, and an m1 grand. From someone who only fired those weapons and only thst one time. It was enough to surprise me quote a bit. And after 4 clips. My shoulder was done.
To be fair the M1 is a heavy firearm what with all the metal and wood. It's not a hard rifle to handle. The weight alone soaks up most of the recoil. I have a 1918 Winchester Enfield chambered in 30.06 as well. They are pretty easy to manage.

It just comes down to experience. The more you shoot the hard hitting stuff, the easier it gets. I remember when I first shot a 12g shotgun and it would leave me sore. A couple months and many shells later, I can rapid fire it and feel nothing

I'm more interested in being able to use a gun to defend myself not put on a little cool looking show like a circus. Not insulting their talent I enjoy watching from time to time just to see what people are capable of but not something I'd wanna learn. In my mind a weapon is only used for killing or defending nothing more nothing less.

It is referred to as an " en bloc clip". It feeds 8 rounds of .30-06 Springfield ammunition into its internal magazine. This comment is NOT based on incorrect supposition.
Tip for anyone wanting a good method for loading the Garand: with your right hand pinch the clip between your thumb and index finger. With your other 3 fingers extended, slide them down along the stock with the bottom of your hand pressed against the action. This will ensure the action does not move forward and give you "Garand Thumb". Use your thumb and palm to push the clip the rest of the way until it seats in the magazine. As the action releases and begins to move forward the bottom of your hand will still be touching it. Make a knife hand with all fingers extended and joined and rotate your hand 90 degrees in a snapping motion. The action will slide forward freely below your hand. This is the quickest, easiest, most comfortable way I've found to do it.
Won’t let you use, more like you don’t want to use, A 20 round magazine and very heavy is not 2 things you want in a light machine gun. Like give me the box (m1919) at least that thing packs a punch and can be used for sustained fire
