Fun Fact: Roxie Roker who played Helen Willis, the slender lady in turquoise blue dancing with George at the end, is the mother of Lenny Kravitz and Grandmother of Zoe Kravitz.
Whoever decided these were the funniest moments for George Jefferson clearly didn't watch the show. This was so tame. Please do more of The Jeffersons!
I thought the same thing while watching. They had some FANTASTIC shows...and the banter between George and Florence (maid) were the best television has EVER offered. Really great stuff!
The 70s had some of the funniest sitcoms ever. Norman Lear shows such as "All In the Family", "The Jeffersons", "Good Times", and "Maude" kept us very entertained. Another one I'll mention is "WKRP In Cincinnati" about a radio station. The funniest episode was called "The Turkey Drop". Hilarious!
WKRP is in my top five, love that show, Turkey Drop, was so funny, and the episode when they brought in the sheriff to test Venus and Johnny on the air on how fast they become impaired when drinking, Johnny didn't get drunk until he saw the pink pig mascot.... hysterical!
Fun fact, Zara Cully who plays George Jefferson’s mother, was born in 1892. She was in her 80’s while starring in the Jefferson’s (and would be 131 years old today in 2023).
And Zara would get upset that the script called for Mother Jefferson to be mean to Louise, and Isabel said to her, if you want to keep your job, you will be mean to me!
Best Jefferson's moment for me was when George teaches Tom Willis how to be 'black,' and Tom makes an appearance at George's cocktail party. It is an absolute riot. Here's the title of that segment here on YT, just search it: The Jeffersons - S6E14 - "Brother Tom"
I grew up watching this show and not only was it on one of the three main channels, it was the number 1 show for five years. It was so popular that when Mike & Gloria had a baby, Joey, he was on the cover of the TV Guide. Doesn’t sound like much but then it was a big deal.
I've really enjoyed your reactions to All in the Family, and this latest one, The Jeffersons, but you've only barely touched the tip of the iceberg on George Jefferson. Please do one or two more videos on him. 😊
Another brillant " All in The Family" spin off was "Maude"( Edith's Cousin) potrayed by Bea Arthur( later in the Golden girls)Brillant 💯 worth a reaction. Check RU-vid Compilation of "Maude on All in The Family" 1 The show " Good Times" was a spin off of Maude also worth a reaction!! The Show " Good Times" was a spin off of Maude also worth a reactiion.
I can't believe whoever put these "funniest" moments together cut out the funniest part of the scene at 9:22 where George slides into the room dancing to Lionel's music. As a Jeffersons fan from way back, these moments, while funny, are not the funniest from the show. The show was at its funniest when Mother Jefferson was on. My favorite episode is the one where George's old Navy buddy (played by Lou Gosset) hits on Louise.
I remember watching that one with Zara Cully and George’s old friend. The funniest scene ever though is when George buys a super expensive watch for Lionel, and Louise finds out. I thought I was gonna die laughing.
I thought the same thing - when I saw Lionel sitting on the couch I thought "Oh this is a good one" and then they didn't show that part. Odd they left that out!!
When George Jefferson‘s character originated on ”All in the Family”, he was the racist Black version of Archie Bunker. Of course once he got his own sitcom, the character changed and became more of a grouchy old man.
All these shows bring back memories. I watched all reactions today and subscribed😂 I'm from El Paso TX, which is where Sherman Hensley passed. My aunt went to his funeral
I am 62 now but I met Marla Gibbs when I was about 14 years old at a function for kids at risk in Compton. She was very nice and I got her autograph. She was my first celebrity meeting.
even here in Italy the Jeffersons are very loved, even now I go looking for them, forty years have passed and I smile as if it were the first time I saw them.
Yes, Lionel was on All in the Family, he lived a couple houses down from Archie Bunker, and Yes, he plays the part of Son of George, so Yes, he was in other shows
The actress who played Louise Jefferson (Isabelle Sanford) was 21 years older than the actor who played George Jefferson (Sherman Hemsley). They look like a couple, but she could have been his mother. Sherman was only fifteen years older than the actor who played his son, Mike Evans.
After watching several of your reaction videos, I've decided to subscribe. I enjoy listening to you kids talking about the shows we old people loved so much. The Seventies left us with some of the best tv ever produced. Very few of today's shows can compare. I love to see young people enjoying themselves and showing understanding that these shows took place in such different times. Now, it seems that so many people only want to find ways to be offended. "All in the Family" could never be shown today. It's truly a pity because Archie Bunker, George Jefferson and other characters opened up dialogs that were so important. Thanks for all the great memories you're bringing up for all the young people of the Seventies who truly loved the comedies of the times. I would like to suggest that you watch and react to at least one silent movie. "Nosferatu" comes to mind.(I wasn't around yet, but thanks to the internet, I can enjoy what was considered entertainment to the really old people.) Those were made even BEFORE the Thirties❤
That was NOT typical of the Jeffersons. As someone else said, George was the black Archie Bunker. He was quite racist and quite rude to everyone, thinking he was better than them. His funniest moments were probably with Florence, the live in maid. But George's favorite word for white people was "honky". He said it all the time.
Sherman Hemsley lived in my hometown of El Paso Texas in his later years he lived with his Business Partner and another friend, When Sherman Passed away in 2012 he left everything to his Business Partner and then Man cane down from Philadelphia Claiming her was Shermans Brother and he wanted his Brothers estate and take his body back Philadelphia to be buried there so they went to court so Shermans body lied in a Freezer at a Local Funeral Home for Months until the Judge ruled in Favore of His Business Partner and Sherman had a Military Funeral because he served in the Air Force and was Buried at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery here in El Paso Texas
I'm glad I've made my kids acquainted with all the old shows from back in my days, it is not news to them at age of 30 and 36 as well as music of all genres
Omg. I'm so glad I got the DVD of the 6th Season when George was supposed to help paint the Willises' spare room for their grandchild but Geo's laundry evening delivery person got called out of town unexpectedly. Geo had to make the deliveries himself and one of the stops was to a psychiatric hospital & the attendants thought he was a patient and due to his behavior put him in a straight jacket. Everyone comes to his rescue, but I won't say what Florence said when she saw him in the jacket. U must watch the epidode.😅
I got it. Episode 12 (disc 2) 'One Flew into the Cuckoo's Nest'.. P.S. if u wanna go awww, check out the Episode just before it, #11, 'Me & Mr. G.' You're right they just don't make shows like this anymore.
Roxie Roker was married in real life to a jewish man whose last name was Kravitz, hence their son Lenny Kravitz. When she was cast in the role, she was questioned if she could believeablely play the wife of a white man. She enjoyed telling them that she was in real life so it shouldn't be much of a problem!
Well we're movin' on up (movin on up) To the east side (movin on up) To a deluxe apartment in the sky. Movin' on up (movin on up) To the east side (movin on up) We finally got a piece of the pie.
Hey guys; the Jefferson’s were a spin off from All in the family. Like family matters from perfect strangers, good times from Maude, Frazier from cheers, Better call Saul from breaking bad…(since I was dating myself with the others mentioned), and more
2:23 Of course, the animal cookies joke is a very slight re-working of the old joke from "Sanford And Son" about gorilla cookies. It might be a comedian/writer Paul Mooney or a Richard Pryor joke, who both worked for the Foxx show. Paul also wrote for Richard's stage act, "In Living Color", "SNL", "Chappelle's Show", "Good Times") I think I've seen the joke used a third place too.
I miss the 70s. It was a time when men were men and women were women. And you could call out another for what he was! If you were a thief you were a thief. AND IF YOU WERE A JUNKIE YOU WERE A JUNKIE! Sherman Hemsley, Marla Gibbs, Carroll O'Connor and Redd Foxx were the best!!!!
So, I watched all these shows and one thing you have to realize is that these shows are not per say racist, but about race. If you notice in All in the Family whenever Archie says something racist there is always a counter point of view. It is not just a show about a character saying a bunch of racist things for no reason. It was trying to show both sides of the race issue and yes being a comedy show they took it over the top. That is called ratings and money. Other shows of this time also had their own message done in the comedy style and always over the edge. Married with Children wasn't about race, but more about male chauvinism. That would be Al. But, in order to understand some of the jokes like what he says about Marcy, you would have to watch the shows all the way through. This was one of my favorites and the show lasted a very long time. And, if you think Al is bad, wait till you see his children. Tooo funny.
One of the best scenes when Allen Willis comes back from Paris and Goerge and Allen go off at each other towards the end making rhyming jabs because Allen is white with a mother whose black lmfao. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MT6t1aHKLrA.html
You guys are just learning to laugh if you're just discovering these old comedies. I can't remember the last time I watched a current comedy and laughed until I cried, but it happened all the time back then. And they use much more vulgar language on television today than they did back then. Back then, it was, "damn" , and "hell"; today, it's, "asshole", and "bitch".
Did You guys know that Hellen willis is the mother of Lenny Kravitz( the famous music artist). Also she was married to a white man in real life too. His last name was Kravitz
You guys have to understand how much the meanings of words has been changed in your time on earth. It's honestly scary tbqh. None of us who grew up with these shows considered Archie or George "racist". That used to be a strong word meant for people who burned your house down or made sure you didn't get a job. These guys were considered "prejudiced" which is kinda disappointing but wouldn't get you cancelled because there was no such thing as cancelling people even 20 years ago. Before then in order for us to consider Archie a racist, he would had to have never spoken to George and he would have stopped his wife from talking to Weezy. There's no way in hell he'd be anywhere near that party. George would have had to storm out of that party upon meeting Tom and immediately disown Lionel. That's what racists do. At worst Archie and George were "prejudiced" because they pre-judged people based on race. They were just guys with bad intel. They weren't considered bad people. In maybe the last 15 years, when cancel culture sprung up, it became a thing (again) to judge people based on a single incident like the use of a word or single unwanted hug (or from recent headlines, a kiss). It's something worse than prejudice because its effects are permanent. People have a seconds long lapse in judgement and their career maybe over because of a recent change in perception or definition. Ask an old person you know if Archie Bunker was a racist and then ask them if that coach kissing the soccer player is "sexual assault". When a culture changes definitions that quickly and drastically something more sinister is going on. That's why people invoke the term "witchhunt". Because a lot of us thought those kind of snap judgements only came from bygone days when people were less sophisticated and were willing to persecute based on the testimony of lyng children. But the last decade has taught people to be just as callous with sentencing people. Now it's just in the court of public opinion.
