The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

He didn't JUST crash through the Graceland gates, lol ... He also fired off a few shots from a .357 magnum at the mansion itself. Jerry Lee was drunk and mad at Elvis for "stealing the fame and fortune that belonged to him". Jerry Lee was a real rock n roll maniac.

Woo hoo!! The Killer! He actually set his piano on fire one time! Fun Fact: His cousins are Mickey Gilley of Gilley's roadhouse fame and another accomplished pianist and famous country singer, and Jimmy Swaggert, the TV evangelist who played killer piano and sang hymns with swag! My granny loved Jimmy Swaggert, and my mom and her sisters loved Jerry Lee and I heard their albums growing up. Mickey Gilley had many country classic hits featuring his piano playing. But Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard blazed trails with their electric performances on piano and showmanship. I hope you guys react to more of them!

Yes, but Jerry Lee liked to brag to much! He named himself, " The Killer " then everyone started calling him that, he got jealous of Elvis, because Elvis was named the King of " Rock-N-Roll " and, he wanted to be but, Elvis created Rock-N-Roll by joining all genre's of music together and, brought black music to the fore front, for this reason Elvis became, THE KING of Rock-N-Roll, before Elvis it was called "Rock-A-Billy "!

Travis & Suzi That older man grabbing and shaking Jerry Lee was Ed Sullivan. He was one of powerful men who can make or break careers. Jerry Lee was part of million dollars quartet: Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, and Johnny Cash. All four iconic musicians did an impromptu jam session at the famous Sun Records. Then there was another quartet with Roy Orbison called Class of '55 released in 1986. Back in 2020, all iconic musicians such as Willie Nelson celebrated Jerry Lee's 85th birthday on livestream.

I have to tell you that although Ed Sullivan was on when I was little I've only ever seen him on music clips from his show and I have NEVER seen Ed so animated by a performance and performer. I can die happy now seeing Jerry Lee Lewis get a love noogie at the end from the last man I ever expected to see do it. By the time this show aired in 1969 Lewis had been performing these songs night in and night out for over a decade - what you see here is the perfect example of muscle memory combined with raw energy and God given talent.

The Ed Sullvan Show ran for 23 years on CBS and from New York. On Sunday nights, millions would tune-in to watch "The Big Shew." A showcase for current entertainment acts, theatrical, vaudeville, comedians, singers, and bands, just to name a few (it had it all). The Ed Sullivan Show was the place where young Baby Boomers and their parents saw what happened in the 50's, 60's and 70's entertainment-wise. The Ed Sullivan Theater is where David Letterman and now Steven Colbert do their late-night show. :)

The piano was a part of him. The music just came out of him. It just was.

Jerry Lee calls himself the 'last man standing' since all of the old mega star rockers around him have died. He's hardly standing these days, but still........they didn't call him 'the killer' for nothing.
