As someone else mentioned, this performance was at a prison -- Tennessee State Prison -- and the audience is prison inmates. Johnny Cash was the main act, and he brought Linda on as a guest. The audience probably had only seen someone who looks as good as Linda Ronstadt on TV, so this must have been quite a treat. The guy playing lead guitar in Linda's band is Andrew Gold, who had a solo career of his own after backing Linda for several years.

"Lonely Boy" and "Thank You For Being a Friend". Factoid: Andrew Gold's mother was Marni Nixon, and his father wrote the famous score for the film Exodus along with several others.

She is simply a vocal legend. She was the most celebrated female voice of her time, and I believe, the best selling. I saw her in concert in a tiny venue in Boston. She opened for Jackson Browne (they took turns on that tour opening for one another, can you imagine?). It was a stupendous concert.

She started out rockin'! Do "When Will I Be Loved?" and the live version of "Tumbling Dice" is funky and rockin' and one of my favorites, "Poor Pitiful Me". She started out in the country/rock genre, but has never been in a box of any one genre. Back in the beginning, members of the Eagles were her backing band before they formed the Eagles. But I love her music! I love your braids today, too! ❤

Also, You’re No Good was a huge hit song for Linda this is when she was dubbed the queen of rock ‘n’ roll. If you listen to the song, it’s about a girl who leaves a really nice guy to be with this other guy who turns out to be no good. “I broke a heart gentle and true for someone like you.”

There is a funny story of Linda Rostadt's appearing at the Johnny-Cash-Show... Linda was a guest on “The Johnny Cash Show,” which was taped at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. And John's wife, June Carter Cash, was shocked by Linda’s wardrobe, or lack thereof. June wasn’t about to let Linda perform with John unless something was fixed really quickly. June was sitting out there in front of the stage, and she said, "That girl doesn’t have any panties on. She can’t sing with my Johnny like that." So they went over to the department store Cain-Sloan’s and got Linda some panties. After Linda put on the panties June bought for her, Johnny had some fun with the situation. Linda was coming back in and Johnny passed her and said, "Linda, you got your drawers on?" and she said, "Yeah, but I sing better bare-assed.” Now, that’s a conversation we never imagined going down between Johnny Cash and Linda Ronstadt! :-D

aside from her beautiful appearance - this gal can SING! She can sing it all - every genre - including had done some opera. Vocal range is amazing. She can give powerful voice - or she can sing soft and mellow. She can go low or she can soar high with her vocals. Ms Ronstadt is most likely the most versatile female vocalist of her generation. An amazing talent. Started out in rock with the band - Stone Ponies, with several very good songs, before pursuing solo career.

The backing vocals were originally sung by women. But Linda liked to change things up now and again. She was a constant on the radio during her heyday in the 7o's. And that was a good thing. Linda was part of the California sound, which blended country and rock for most of the decade. SILVER THREADS AND GOLDEN NEEDLES, TUMBLING DICE, POOR, POOR PITIFUL ME, and Ooh BABY, BABY are some of bedt songs. Linda and Smokey Robinson duet his song with magical results. She has admitted to have a little crush on him, which made their singing together a dream come true for her. Keep going and enjoy

As you can see, Linda could do it all. By all, try Pop, Rock, Country, American Standard, Operetta. She could sing soft and sweet. She could punch it out with grit. She knew how to control her musical instrument. See truly respected her band. She could pick the best musicians, and I am pretty sure that they paid that back to her. Best example, the formation of the Eagles, with her blessings, and their appreciation of her. When she turns around, she is not turning her back to the audience, but it is to direct their attention to the band who takes center stage at that moment in the music. She is not the first to do this song. She was known as the Cover Queen. However, every cover that she did, she made it her own. In her own time, she was an influencer. She had so much clout, that she could do things that she wanted to do, but was contrary to what the big executives would advise. For example,, albums sung entirely in Spanish, as a tribute to her heritage. I, we, were blessed with the times when she could do her music with us to witness.

“You’re No Good” was a massive hit for Linda (one of many). In fact, it hit No 1 on the top 100 US singles chart in 1975. It was written by Clint Ballard Jr (Linda rarely wrote her own songs) in 1963. She recorded it in 1974 on her breakthrough “Heart Like A Wheel” album, her first of many multi-platinum selling albums of that decade, that skyrocketed her into pop-rock stardom. She was eventually dubbed the queen of rock which she said once was “silly”. She was and is very humble about her talent as a singer. An interesting thing about this song that I have not seen commented on before is the second verse. Yes, it is a song where she defiantly declares her freedom from a bad man but she also disparages herself as well, Second verse- “I broke a heart that’s gentle and true, I broke a heart over someone like you, I beg his forgiveness on bended knee, I wouldn’t blame him if he said to me - You’re no good, you’re no good, baby you’re no good”

That's Andrew Gold playing guitar, he largely arranged & played most of the instruments on the recording of the song. As a solo artist he wrote & song the 79's hit, Lonely Boy & Thank You For Being a Friend.

She was known as the queen of rock n roll in her heyday in the mid 70s. You’re no Good was a number one song in 75.

I'm glad your exploring the different members of the trio group. Linda's style music was rock . Keep in mind Dolly parton had some disco tracks . And with there common interest and love for people and animals. It was there friendship that inspired the group.

My Dad went to High School with her here in Tucson, AZ. I was very young when her name came up for some reason. (Had no idea who she was) The only thing he ever said about her was that she never wore shoes! 😂 Clearly always a free spirit. Makes sense as an adult now, knowing about her incredible career. Loved your reaction. 💗

Hey Britt. I believe this performance was at the Tennessee state prison, early to mid 70s.

Let’s not forget how pretty she was. Plus: Imagine the courage it took her to come out dressed like that for an audience of prison inmates. One of Linda’s other great rock ‘n’ roll performances was her version of the Rolling Stones’ “Tumbling Dice.” For something sweet and low-key, look for “I Will Never Marry,” a duet Linda did with Johnny Cash on his TV show.

Her first #1. She did the southern California rock scene. The Eagles were her band.

No, she's not shaking her behind for the guys in the audience to see, Lol. She's giving recognition to her band behind her.
