Linda's voice is not only technically beautiful, it is drenched with emotion. That's what makes her a top-tier vocalist, IMHO, along with her flexibility and versatility.
@mrmrclark
@mrmrclark Месяц назад
And…she respects the song. There is a song that Dolly Parton wrote, that Linda covered (along with a few other vocal powerhouses), and she could have just let loose and really shown the power of her voice, but she did not…she expected the feel and the emotion of the song. Others who’ve covered it, with the amazing and undeniable power of their voices, just did not respect the feel of the song, imho…Linda is a master of portraying the emotion of a song and respecting the emotion of it. I believe that’s why so many song writers have been so grateful for her covers of their songs. Just a true artist.

Since you love her so much and her wide range of styles *and* since Jay loves the “crooner” style and repertoire so much, you owe it to yourselves to check our Miss Linda’s journey into that style in the three albums she did with classic “crooner” arranger, Nelson Riddle (he worked most famously with Frank Sinatra during the 50’s and 60’s). Years earlier, they had hits with Tears On My Pillow and Shimmy Shimmy Koko Bop. Amber, I request that you discover more of the great girl group classic hits on Female Fridays. There are still a couple of other genres that Linda excelled in that you've yet to discover. She made a foray into light opera in the 80s, appearing on Broadway in Gilbert and Sullivan's "Pirates of Penzance," for which she received a Tony nomination. The video of her performing "Poor Wandering One" displays an impressive range of vocal skills you may never have guessed she had. She also released a trio of very successful, platinum-certified albums with Nelson Riddle and his orchestra in which she covered American standards from the big band era.

Check out the original from Little Anthony and The Imperials. Linda did a lot of covers and explained in at least one interview that she did music that she grew up listening to so from songs like this to her work with Nelson Riddle on the great American songbooks albums and her Ranchera/Mariachi projects and others, the had a lot of influences.

Excellent song!! If you want some rockin' Linda Ronstadt try "Poor Poor Pituful Me" . Also in the live 1977 version of "Tumbling Dice" she gives some real grit in her vocals!!

By the way that photo of her with a tennis racket in her hand was a celebrity match in 1976 with her, Minne Ripperton, Helen Reddy & Olivia Newton-John all together

She’s also a crooner, Jay! “What’s New” is a great start. She had a HUGE success with these American. Standards.
