8:36 This was performed at London's Royal Albert Hall on Nov. 29th, 2002, as part of the Concert for George (Harrison), on the 1 year anniversary of his passing. The third guitarist/vocalist joing Sir Paul & Eric C., was Jeff Lynne from the group, ELO (Electric Light Orchestra). He & George had been bandmates in the supergroup, Traveling Wilburys (along w/ Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, & Tom Petty). Also accompanying them was Ringo Starr (you might have heard of him) on drums, & Billy Preston on keyboards. Later in the concert, Billy does a rousing rendition of George's iconic " My Sweet Lord", a 'must hear & see' ! BTW, the late & great Frank Sinatra ( no stranger to the love song genre), referred to this song. "Something", as the best romantic song ever written.

This was a tribute to George Harrison. George was a fan of the ukulele. Always played them and gave them as gifts. That’s why Paul began the song playing one. He would do this in his own concerts.

This was from The Concert For George in 2002 exactly one year to the day of his death. An all-star cast of friends honoring him. Paul as you saw, Beatles drummer Ringo Starr who I think you completely missed on drums. The black guy on keyboards was Billy Preston. He played keyboards on The Beatles "Let It Be" album. His friendship with them went back to 1960 when he was fourteen in Hamburg and played keyboards in The Ray Charles Band. The Beatles were kids themselves, John Lennon turned 20 that year, Paul McCartney turned 18 and George Harrison turned 17. Ringo Starr wasn't in the band yet, he joined in 1962. They had another drummer Pete Best at the time. Fast forward to January, 1969, The Beatles were recording their "Let It Be" Lp and Billy Preston happened to be in London and stopped by to say hello. They were working on John's "Don't Let Me Down" and asked Billy if he wanted to play some keys on it. Tensions were high at the time in the band and they had such a good time that after he left the band talked and decided to ask him if he wanted to sit in and play on the album. When he came on it really lightened the mood and it re energized the band to make music again. Billy had the unique distinction of being the only musician to have ever recorded an album as a member of the band. He was known as the Fifth Beatle ever since. Sadly, he passed several years ago. Eric Clapton play lead guitar on Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on The Beatles "White Album" from 1968. He and George were great friends and George invited him to play on the song which is also in this concert that you can react to. Almost forgot, Preston also played on two tracks on their "Abbey Road" Lp. This one (Something) and Lennon's "I Want You (She's So Heavy) now there's one you need to check out. "Abbey Road" was the last Lp The Beatles recorded together released in September, 1969. "Let It Be" was the last Lp released in 1970 but recorded between January and February 1969. I hope you're following all of this. I'm sure you've seen the "Abbey Road" Lp cover where the four are walking across the crosswalk on Abbey Road, it's probably the most iconic Lp cover in history. You should really listen to The Beatles performance of "Something" on "Abbey Road". In 1970 Frank Sinatra declared it was the greatest love song written in the last 50 years. When Big Frank speaks, you better take notice. He didn't like The Beatles, in fact he hated Lennon and said if he ever crossed paths with him that he was " Going to kick the shit out of him". John liked to take a shot at him from time to time. Not smart on Franks part because when John got wind of that what do you think was going to happen Britt? More broadside Salvo's from the Battleship Lennon, that's what. John knew how to get under ones skin. Only John Lennon 😂😂😅😂. One of a kind this dude was. I forgot, listen to Harrison's slide guitar solo on "Something" on Abbey Road, it's great. This song and George's "Here Comes The Sun" are the two best songs on "Abbey Road". By 1969 he had really come into his own as a songwriter. He beat John and Paul at their own game on this record. From this concert please check out Joe Brown's performance of " Here Comes The Sun" it's beautiful. Also, on "Something" the guy on Clapton's right singing was Jeff Lynn of Electric Light Orchestra or ELO. Also on this show were Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers. Checkout their performance of George's "I Need You" from The Beatles 1965 Lp "Help" great performance. Many more were there that night. Only disappointment for me was no Bob Dylan as he and George had been great friends since 1964. That's Dylan for you. Last thing here, between 1988 and 89 Harrison, Dylan, Petty, Jeff Lynn and Roy Orbison were members of the super group "The Traveling Wilbury's" a group that Harrison and Lynn put together. Check out the videos for "Handle With Care" mainly a Harrison song and "End Of The Line" another Harrison number. Both were big hits and you should have no issues with copyrights so let's squash any of that BS. Legendary stuff here young lady. Peace❤

Interesting to note that "Something" was written by Eric's best friend, George Harrison, about his (George's) then girlfrind and later, wife,Pattie Boyd. After divorcing - Pattie then married Eric. She inspired songs from Harrison - "Something" , "I Need You", "If I Needed Someone", and "For You Blue". She inspired Clapton's songs - "Layla", "Bell Bottom Blues" and "Wonderful Tonight"... Pattie Boyd - Rock & Roll Muse...

Britt, this is a George Harrison song, sung in tribute to him. You know Paul was in the Beatles with Geoge, and so was Ringo, playing drums here. Eric and George were good friends, and even played on each other's records; Eric on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", and George on "Badge". The other singer harmonizing is Jeff Lynn, who played with George in the group The Travelling Wilburys, and also produced many of George's solo albums. On keyboards is Billy Preston who performed on several Beatle songs.

I was watching the night this Concert for George premiered, own the dvd, and have seen the theatrical rerelease. I saw George perform this song in concert, 1974. Being a Beatleologist gives license to compare all other versions to this tribute, and there are none. To this day, the crescendo in the middle can make me tear up. The communal love in the great Albert Hall was unmistakable.

As Paul was introduced as he took the stage at the Concert for George, he told the story of how, after dinner at George's house, the ukuleles would inevitably come out. George asked him if he knew any songs on the uke and Paul said he did. He told the audience, "I played this song for him then and I'll play it for you now." This is probably my favorite non-George version of Something.

As others might’ve mentioned, this was from “A Concert for George”. It was a tribute show in memory of former Beatle George Harrison. The reason why Paul McCartney was playing the first part of “Something”; written by Harrison, on the ukelele was because George Harrison loved to play on a ukelele. When the surviving Beatles got together to work on the songs for The Beatles Anthology project from 1994, in between the interviews and jam sessions, George would bring out a ukelele and play a few tunes. Paul remembered this and after performing it here, he would continue to perform “Something” during his Back In The U.S. tour in 2002.

While you were wagging your head back and forth at the end you missed seeing Ringo on drums. This was George Harrison's song, Something, a giant #1 hit single in 1969 for the Beatles. Geroge loved playing uke, and Paul did it in a swing band style first, then the recorded style of straight beat ballad. Clapton played the guitar solo that was on the record note for note that George played in 1969. George had died exactly one year before this concert from cancer. A year later Eric Clapton put together this star studded tribute Concert in rememberance of George, for Charity. Ringo and Paul were there, George's son Dahni took his place on guitar on stage looking incredibly like the young version of his father, Dahni was about 24- years old. I have the DVD of the conert. Britt you should watch the whole conert Almost every song was written by George Harrison or sung by him at one time or another. It's hard to believe this was almost 22 years ago. Eevery celebrity one who was on that stage was a friend of George's.

This is a Beatles song originally written and sung by George Harrison. It's on the Beatles last recorded album "Abbey Road". You should check out the original song performed by the Beatles. This particular performance was from the "Concert for George" performed 1 year after George passed away from cancer, which many believed was brought on because of a knife attack a couple years earlier from a crazed fan who broke into his house and stabbed George multiple times. Oh, and that was Ringo on the drums! Peace

An interesting tidbit: The opening line of this song was taken from James Taylor’s song, “Something in the way she moves”, from his self-titled album on Apple Records. James was the first outside artist to be signed to the Beatles’ label and was recording his record at Abbey Road studios at the same time the Beatles were writing the songs for their final album. George was impressed by the song and asked if he could borrow the first line.

So many legends on one stage! I think the word you may be looking for to describe Paul's voice might be "friendly". At least it feels that way to me. There's something about Eric singing a song written by one of his best friends about the woman who would later become Eric's wife that seems to have a deeper meaning than just the words. And seeing the late great Billy Preston on stage with this bunch warms my heart. Billy also performed with Eric on his "One More Car, One More Rider" tour. His organ performance on the live recording of "Have You Ever Loved a Woman" will knock your socks off!

Britt: You MUST immerse yourself in The Beatles recordings. They are the benchmark for popular music (at least since 1962). This live tribute is to Harrison as a composer and as a ukulele fanatic. The song is beautiful and romantic and is the last part of this video. The first part is McCartney's interpretation as it would played on George's obsessive instrument. There's a video on YT of George and Jeff Lynne playing them. Also in this concert, Joe Brown pays a tribute with his rendition of "See You In My Dreams". Brown is a UK guitarist who became popular in the UK immediately prior to The Beatles success and became great friends with George.

Some of us grew up listening to and nearly idolizing the Beatles or The Rolling Stones, and some grew up idolizing the Backstreet Boys. Leaving aside the relative value among those musicians and stars, when George passed those like me were really hurt. A year later, these guys joined by Prince, Ringo (here in the back on drums) and all the others got together to love and honor their actual friend, George. This morning I just woke up and instead of the news, came to RU-vid, and of course you and this song. The tears are STILL coming as I listen to you enjoying this…in this way, the “big brothers and sisters” in Rock and other music I grew up with are passed along to your generation, and all the others to come. George was a big proponent of the Uke and even carried some around in his car and gave them away to get more people to play. This was not a ukelele song, but Paul played the first part on the uke as a tribute to George. The second half is more what the song actually sounds like.

Wikipedia The track is generally considered a love song to Pattie Boyd, Harrison's first wife, although Harrison offered alternative sources of inspiration in later interviews. Owing to the difficulty he faced in getting more than two of his compositions onto each Beatles album, Harrison first offered the song to Joe Cocker. As recorded by the Beatles, the track features a guitar solo that several music critics identify among Harrison's finest playing. The song also drew praise from the other Beatles and their producer, George Martin, with Lennon stating that it was the best song on Abbey Road. The promotional film for the single combined footage of each of the Beatles with his respective wife, reflecting the estrangement in the band during the months preceding their break-up in April 1970. Harrison subsequently performed the song at his Concert for Bangladesh shows in 1971 and throughout the two tours he made as a solo artist.

This song was one of the Beatles biggest hits, recorded on Abby Road their last released album. Written by George Harrison inspired by his wife Pattie Boyd at the time. Frank Sinatra once said it was "the most beautiful love song every written." This concert was a tribute to George Harrison after he passed away, it's not the first time Eric Clapton played on this song in concert but before was always alongside George - like his concert for Bangladesh. George Harrison and Eric Clapton were good friends. Strange thing is Eric Clapton fell in love with Georges wife Patty while they were still married. He married her later after she and George were divorced. Eric Clapton's songs "Layla" and "Bell Bottom Blues" were also inspired by Pattie Boyd.

You might be surprised that there are some Beatle performances in the public domain. One great example is the Beatles doing All you need is love. John Lennon sings lead. It was a program called Our World which was the first worldwide satellite broadcast. Each country had an act that they felt could represent them. The Beatles represented England. Go react to the official video of Maybe I’m Amazed by Paul McCartney. Then you can give us a real reaction about Paul’s voice. That was Ringo on the drums. You will get to the Traveling Wilburys at some point. George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, and Bob Dylan. A true supergroup. You will love them! I know you can’t play Beatles. Since you’ve reacted to John Lennon I hope you can play videos of the other Beatles after the band broke up. ❤❤❤

This was George Harrison’s beautiful song released in 1969 on the Beatles’ Abbey Road album. Worth a listen Britt!! 😅

Unusual arrangement - Paul and Eric are both pretty fearless about switching things up. Eric always sounds like a blues man, because that's what he is. 😅 This is a great love song - "Layla" is another, one of the greatest songs ever.

McCartney voice is mellow, like a neighbor who is just relaxing. Always nice when a classic tune is reworked with a different vibe. Then they slipped back into the original version. Britt sounds Amazed - hint...

These guy's went back a bit. You are right the easy going chemistry and feeling for the song really does show. Just thinking like how queens used to launch many ships over a lifetime, then we can say Patti Boyd inspired more classic and iconic love songs over her lifetime then any other woman before or since.

You should react to George and the Beatles version of "Something w/Video Version" You'll see the wives in the Beatles. The Beatles / George had many hits that George wrote "Here Comes The Sun", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" "Something" to name a few!

As others have commented very ironic that Eric would sing the song that best friend George wrote for first wife Patti Boyd whom Eric was obsessed with and later married.

A little tough to see anyone delving into classic rock who isn't familiar with the song, "Something". You've done something out of order here. But it is great to see people react to this. It is under-reacted to. And the entire concert is amazing.

This is George's most famous Beatles song. Frank Sinatra said it was the most beautiful love song he had ever heard. He then went on to credit it to Paul and John.

That first minute or so with just Paul and Ringo was the final performance of The Beatles even if it wasn't billed as that. And brought me to tears.

Bitt: You really should listen to While My Guitar Gently Weeps as play at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame inductions in 2004. Eric Clapton, Jeff Lynn, and Dani Harrison are part of the band but the song is completely, and unexpectedly taken over by Prince who plays what may consider, myself included, to be one of the greatest guitar solos ever played. If you've never heard it you really must hear this. As for your comments on Something, Paul's voice, and the harmonies Eric, Paul and Jeff Lynn sing, there's a reason they are musical legends and you heard it on this song. I always love hearing your reactions.

George Harrison wrote this song and performed it with the Beatles and it was covered by Frank Sinatra who at the time called it the greatest song of the last 50 years. I thought Clapton played the guitar on this song the same as George played it. Not to make it his own, great man.
