The song is very personal for Lewis. his grandmother (mom's) passed from cancer and like 6 months later his Aunt (mom's sis) took her own life. It's ok to feel this song in such a profound manner. It hits hard.

Lewis is such a goofball in real life and has a twisted sense of humor, and then writes these songs and does these videos that tear your heart out.

This song (and many of Lewis' songs) touch so many people for a reason, and that is, we all go through heart break. Just know you're not alone.

This song tears me apart every time i hear it, had a very close friend who commited suicide in her mid 20s, and no-one saw it coming, so this song and the way he uses the video to hammer home the message contained is heart breaking for me. I don't think i have seen another video/song combination that is this powerful.

While I understand that this song is about suicide... it has a completely different meaning for me. I am my wife's caretaker and we recently discovered that she has a degenerative brain condition that will probably wind up causing her death at some point. The line "If only I had known you had a storm to weather" speaks to me about my ignorance to the neurodegenerative process that was going on inside of her head and we had no idea until the symptoms got worse. "Before you go" obviously hits me to the core because it reminds me that this is a long process that will eventually take my wife away from me. The "Was there something something I could have said" lines make me think back at the times I got frustrated with her when her "slow" cognitive responses were demonstrating but I had no idea what was going on. Could I have done something to catch this sooner? Could I have said or done something to prevent this from happening? "It kills me how your mind can make you feel so worthless" speaks to me about myself because now that I know what we're dealing with, I regret all of the times I got upset or frustrated with her and perhaps treated her poorly without realizing that she was dealing with his condition all along the way.

Yeah, this is also “the song” to me from Lewis Capaldi. The story behind the song is tough, it is personal. And I love Someone you love, hold me while you wait, but this one it's just so personal. Every single lyric of the song hits so deep in my soul. Dealing with depression (and suicidal thoughts) it's not easy. I'm sorry that you have had experiences like that with people around you. Mack is certainly taking you on an emotional journey with all these songs. And once again, if you see this Mack, I like your playlist so far. I lost two amazing friends when I was young twenty years on I still miss them when I was lost they saved me and I couldn’t save them 20 years has past I’m a mam I still think what great men they were the loss is felt just as hard today I still miss and love them my heroes

Man if you're an emotional person and easily hurt Lewis Capaldi is probably not the right person to be listening to because he's like an emotional sledgehammer. Oh I love Louis and I listen to his songs but a lot of the reactions that I'm getting after listening to a few of them they would be all like who hurt this man we need to hunt them down now! Because his pain is very visceral, you definitely feel it.
