I've been a Pryor fan since I was a kid in the 70s. I saw all of his movies in the the theatre. This is from Live on the Sunset Strip. His comeback after his Burn accident. The Prison movie Richard is talking about with Gene Wilder is "Stir Crazy"(1980) Directed by Sidney Poitier. A comedy classic!! A must watch is "Richard Pryor in Concert"(1979) it is the best stand-up film of all time.
The first time I saw Richard Pryor on TV, he was performing the Rumpelstiltskin routine. Over 50 years ago. My dad nearly fell out of his chair, he was laughing so hard.
This clip is from "Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip" - an epic stand-up comedy film released in 1982. In a sense, a comeback performance after recovering from setting himself on fire in 1980. There are more clips easily found on RU-vid - definitely worth checking out. Brilliant and brutal. He and Gene Wilder did a string of buddy movies in the '70's. They were both massive talents at the height of their careers during that time. Gene is in the Live on Sunset Strip film as well. This may be your first reaction to Richard Pryor - please don't let it be you last!
You gentlemen have absolutely no idea the world Prior came out of. Society has changed so much .This special was later in his career he had been horrifically burned and this was his comeback. The first night he faltered but the audience loved him so much they cheered him anyway. You can hear women telling him it’s ok baby we love you. Those of us that grew up with him ad Carlin well they were important figures in our psyches . ☮️
That's from his 1982 concert film "Richard Pryor: Live On The Sunset Strip"......it was shown in the theaters. Some friends and I went to see it......and were frying on acid...we laughed quite loudly, I'm sure! (My much younger, much wilder days). So funny, covering a wide variety of subjects. He ended with a segment referencing when he supposedly caught himself on fire as a result of smoking cocaine, a couple of years earlier (Supposedly with ether as the element to make it smokable).....he revealed later that he was so distraught because of his addiction, he tried to commit suicide by dousing himself in vodka and lighting himself on fire..... immediately changing his mind and began to run down the street!
Ok guys, you got me to subscribe with this video. I like the way you discuss what you've watched. Can't go wrong with Richard Pryor. My favorite Pryor "story" is Bicentennial Prayer.
Are you guys aware that Richard started his face on fire once? I think he was attempting to freebase, and it blew up in his face. He was found running down a street, trying to call for help. He tells the story in one of his routines, after he recovered.
Theres a reason for 2 life sentences, or 3. Cause with all the appeals they'll file over the years, if he, for some reason beats 1 charge, he still has another life sentence.
In most states, Life means eligible for parole in 20 or 25 years, so triple life would mean 75 years if stacked or at least means very unlikely for parole.
Multiple life sentences means that the person murdered multiple people. A life sentence for each crime. When life sentences are given, in state court, there's usually a stipulation that it's not eligible for parole.
A life sentence has an obligation of the defendant to serve a minimum of 15 to 25 years before they are eligible for parole. A multiple life sentence is saying that the person has to serve those "required" years all in a row, which depending on how old the person is, means it will be their natural life or until they are so old they most likely won't be a threat to society anymore....
I've never been to prison myself, but, because I do drug testing for a few counties, I come in contact with a lot of people that have been here in Minnesota. There definitely are Asian gangs in prison.
Did you notice him fiddling with his nose toward the end? 🤔Anyway, a friend and I aw him live in Monterey, California, in around 1979. He was incredibly shocking for then and the crowd was on the floor the whole time. Loved him!
Richard Pryor is the reason Dave Chappelle sounds foolish proclaiming himself to be the greatest of all time. At most, Dave could consider himself peer-level comedian to Richard. ...which let's be clear, that's a claim basically NO comedian could ever credibly make. You don't just announce to the world that you're "better than Richard Pryor at standup comedy". ...Which is exactly what saying "I'm the G.O.A.T. " translates to. That's ridiculous. You don't gain credibility making a statement like that. You lose it. Not to mention, as broad as Dave's audience is, Richard's was an even MORE complete cross section of races and ages.
Pryor is definitely the GOAT, as well as Carlin. But geezopete, you say you like story telling comedians and you got no Fluffy? Gabriel Iglesias - The Gift Basket. You won't be sorry.
MORE COMEDIANS YOU NEED TO SEE\HEAR!!👍👍 DAVE ATTELL "SKANKS FOR THE MEMORIES" TOM SEGURA Any clip!! DOUG STANHOPE Any clip!! "Nationalism" "60 inches of AIDS on Any Sunday" DAVE CHAPPELLE "Sticks and Stones" "Alphabet People" clip GEORGE CARLIN "THE GOAT" ❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
Yall are a bunch of males (hope thats accurate-no offend anyone) that take comedy to seriously. In the 90's we understood comedy snd knew they were performing "SATIRE"
Not one of his best bit. There were better ones than this.: Mudbone, Mafia, Was it something i said , and many others. Richard Pryor along with George Carlin were my two favorite comedians. Both legendary. Suggestion : George Carlin " Advertising BS, , Euphemism
Due on the left and in the middle, y'all would fit in with the Blks and the Mexican groups.. one on the Right... ehhhh, he have to go to PC or become somebody's prison wife. 🤔😂
@the44118 it is true Cosby didn't believe that you had to use fowl language in order to be funny. Cosby didn't even care for Eddie Murphy because of the language.
Imo, Richard wasn't super funny to me but in terms of Cursing overall with any comedian, sometimes lack of cursing is the missing Icing on top that would make Certain jokes funnier!!! It's a necessary evil!!!🤷🏽♂️
You are clearly a caucasian person. You can't relate to a culture you know nothing about ! If you had cited George Carlin instead of Johnny Dangerfield , I'd might think differently ! What you could have said was, "I don't prefer " Blue " comedians ! That paints a different picture ( no pun intended ).
Richard...one of the most profane people I will rarely listen to anymore. I figured I'd revisit him with you all..vicariously. There's a question about reincarnation here. "I didn't understand that." by the one on the left, your right. I understand reincarnation.. Sweet thing is, humans "worry" about punishments, but it doesn't exist. "Coming back." is very hard to spot. I'll leave it at that. I don't miss Richard. Enjoyed you all.
