Aang talking at the end really shows how he is still just a kid and doesn’t fully understand the gravity of his situation and how it affects the world. One thing about this show that I love is it really has great character growth throughout.

The avatar can use all elements, but still has to learn them. When he goes into the avatar state he is basically using the experience of all the previous Avatars in the reincarnation cycle. The avatar state is so badass and this episode give just a small taste of how powerful it really is!!!

Everything shall be revealed in time. This show does a great job of explaining things. There are so few loose ends

Basically Ang is the youngest Air bending master In history. At this point he hasn't studied any of the other elements. He can only use the others while in that state, over which he has almost no control. He's still has to train and master the other ones

7:20 I was hoping the 3 Ninja's comment was going to make it to RU-vid! FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WHO KNOWS ABOUT THOSE MOVIES!!! I cannot tell you how many times I watched those. I was big into Martial Arts as a kid even took like 12-13ish years of Karate classes. Mind you the first 3ish were at a place called The Little Gym which did gymnastics as well as Karate lessons i had to have been like 3 when I started but I still count it. Fun fact there is a commercial for the Little Gym back in the early 90s. I don't remember if I was in the background or what exactly I was doing B Roll stuff.

Also it's called the avatar state. Basically in dire situations He gains the knowledge and abilities of all his past avatar selves, But if you die in this state The avatar cycle ends

Aang is the Avatar, to be clear. He is trained in Airbending, (and as a fun fact is actually insanely talented at it relative to his age, and by that I mean as a 12 year old, not as a 112 year old). He does not know how to do anything else. The Avatar State is something that the Avatar can go into (think of it as being connected with his previous Avatars) and be able to access power and knowledge that those previous lives have. So Aang can't do this stuff normally, just in this brief time. Also, Aang doesn't really know how to do it himself, so it only really comes out in moments of distress (such as in that storm flashback that put him in the iceberg, or in this episode when he was drowning) And Aang definitely should be trying to learn this stuff, if only because the Fire Nation clearly wants him and the more he can protect himself the better. There's more to that, but trying not to spoil what you'll learn in due time. So yeah Aang and friends are traveling from the South Pole which has no waterbenders, to the North Pole in hopes of both of them learning Waterbending. In crossing the entire planet, there are sure to be fun adventures and hijinks on the way. Meanwhile Zuko is chasing after them, and there is a war going on. I don't think I mentioned it before, but part of what makes this show so interesting is that it will prove to be extremely mature, but is still a kids show. So they can't show blood and death and other things going on, but they are super clever about having it just out of sight but still sort of present. Arcane and FMA as examples have the ability to discuss and show those things directly as a sort of "tool" that Avatar has to be creative to get by without using. Of course, there are a thousand kids shows that have the same limitation, but part of what makes Avatar so good is that it is able to not limit itself on its subject matter (like war and genocide) while still being 100% kid friendly.
